There are not enough words to describe how amazing Nate is. I had been seeing him for 3 years, which would have been longer had I not moved out of the state. He was there with me through my entire curl journey. I had Deva Cuts in the past, but nothing consistent. When I first saw him, my hair was a mess. Although I had been on the natural train for 4 years, it did not show. My hair was damaged from so much at home coloring, which was not well done. He was there with me as I grew out my hair and was finally able to get rid of the old, nasty remnants of my blue hair. As time went on, things only got better. Not only did Nate consistently teach me new tricks to manage and care for my hair, but he quickly learned my curls. Each cut was effortless because he knew my curls. I would have an idea of what I wanted and he would make it happen. When I wanted it long, he was there. When I wanted to try out bangs, he was there. When I wanted to transition from styles, he was there. When I wanted to risk it all and cut just above my shoulders, he was there. I've been seeing Jessica for a few years now and she is the only person in the whole world I will ever let touch my curls. Seriously if she ever moved away I would fly to wherever she is every couple months. I even got up extra early on my wedding day to come see her instead of the onsite person my wife and bridesmaids used. In addition to a great cut and gorgeous color, she actually took the time to teach me how to deal with my hair. I had such a fun time with Jessica on Saturday; and I walked out feeling fabulous with a great new hair cut!! I had a couple of ideas of the direction I wanted to go, and Jessica did a great job of administrating my ideas and concepts as well incorporating ideas that she thought would work or would not work. When I made my appointment I was advised that the Infinite Salon was within Sola Studios, but I did not know logistically how it worked. But, upon visiting that area near 10th avenue of the Pearl it totally works! It is a galleria of shared salon spaces with barbershops, cosmetic tattoos, hair styles, eye brow shapers etc all in one space, and then each stylist/owner keeps their own space and locks and secures it when they are not there. It is like a micro-mall of hair studios all in one place! They do a great job of using the space! read more

So I FINALLY decided that my unruly lion's mane of curly (read: FRIZZY) hair needed a cut, and thanks to the Devacurl website and the many amazing Yelp reviews, I finally found Jessica. Coming in to see Jessica for a curly cut? Great! She will do an awesome job. Coming in to see Jessica for a color service of any kind? Just don't. I paid $200 for a base color from her that washed out within 10 days and two washes. When I reached out to her via email about this issue, she did not accept responsibility. She did offered to try and fix it (not for free), but I live very far away and couldn't come back in, which she knew. She also blamed me for the wash out, saying "color is tricky", and that since I had box dye on my hair that her color just washed out. I know color is tricky. That's why I paid her to do it right. Also. Like...isn't this a common issue that pops up? I can't be the only person she's ever encountered that came in with box dye and wanted a professional base color. Anyway. Now I'm out $200 and I have to go back to box dye because at least I know I will do the job right. read more

I came to Jessica a couple of years ago with a bad haircut, a terrible coloring job (think horizontal bands of color), and super damaged hair. Fast forward and not only do I have healthy and appropriately colored hair, but I also have hair that I can love again! Well, I tried to schedule an appointment with Janna, but she discriminated against me before I even had the chance. The conversation went like this, word-for-word: Janna: "Hey there skip buying the Groupon, I'll just honor the same price. It doesn't include the trim/haircut and those are $75." Me: "Okay! Groupon says $87 for the color so plus $75 for the trim equals $162, could we call it an even $150 since I don't need a full cut? I'll just need a little trim after we color it because I think my ends will be a little fried." Janna: "No! I will not haggle my prices!!" Me: "Ok, I was just asking. I took my 13 year old to Jessica for a Devacurl cut because she has the thickest corkscrew curls imaginable. We just moved to Oregon from Texas, so we needed a new stylist. Jessica did an amazing job! She did a dry cut (the only way to cut curly hair) and went curl by curl, like she was shaping a bonsai tree. The effect was a perfect shape that completely accentuates her face. Jessica then washed and styled her hair, explaining how to use all the products and how to really make her curls come together versus being a frizzy mess. My daughter now has a lot more joy and confidence in her curls. Ugh, I'm so disappointed. I bought a groupon to get a balayage by Janna and I was very excited. I emailed her, per the groupon directions and told her I was free Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and asked if she had anything available in March. She got back to me right away about a Friday in March, but I discovered my friends were throwing me a birthday party at the end of February and I asked if she could possibly get me in before my birthday, just one week sooner. Knowing how busy hair salons get, I was preparing myself for a "no" but Janna got back to me with a February date! Unfortunately, it was on a Wednesday. I reminded her I was in classes all day Wednesdays and asked, again, if she had anything Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Since then, I haven't heard back from Janna in 14 days. During that time I sent a couple polite "check in" emails, seeing if she found a way to fit me in. At this point I wouldn't even mind an appointment in March, but I'm unable to even make an appointment because she's no longer answering my emails. I understand that sometimes businesses are unable to get customers in earlier but rather than ignoring my emails, I wish Janna would have just told me "no" and we could have moved forward with another date. Now I have an $80 groupon and a hair salon that won't return my emails. Boo! Hopefully your experience is better than mine. read more

She is able to interrupt your idea's and give you what you want, not just what you're asking for. She really is amazing. This Salon is a hidden gem in the Pearl district which you could miss without Jessica telling where to go. It's an intimate boutique setting with 2 stylists who have known each other for a long time. Jessica is somewhat of a clairvoyant in that she could read exactly what I wanted from what I thought was like the worst description ever. She went to work and we had the smoothest conversation. It didn't feel forced like it often does at many hairdressers. My final product was like woah! And you'll want to leave there either the Daviness line she uses on your hair. It's a very cute and chic little spot and conveniently located for me. Nate talked to me a ton about what I wanted my hair to look like and what it would take to achieve the look I was going for. His coloring skills are masterful! I was able to keep my hair just as long as I like it with a really well blended balayage. I'm normally so awkward with hair stylists and I had no problem chatting with him for 2 hours as he answered any of my random questions. I loved how knowledgeable he was and how happy he was to share the more technical side of it. I booked an appointment for 2 months out at the end of the appointment because it's so worth it! Scheduled my first appointment with Janna for 4:30pm on 12/28 purposefully to have my hair done for an event on New Years. Also confirmed through email a few days prior. Waited until 4:55pm without being greeted before checking with the other staff to ask if I was going to be seen. I was then told that Janna had left for the day and she would text her to find out what happened. I was told she didn't have me on the schedule and would not be coming in but could get me rescheduled for another day. I then had to sit in rush hour traffic for 1.5 hours to get home to Vancouver without having my appointment, wasted 3 hours of my day and still did not receive any follow up email apologizing for the huge inconvenience. I will definitely not be returning. I understand that mistakes happen but the fact that there was not even an attempt for service recovery was very disappointing. read more
