I've never been to Hair M before but decided to treat myself before heading out on vacation. Booking an appointment online was interesting. You're required to agree to their cancellation policy, which is basically a nice way of threatening you with a 50% charge if you don't cancel before a certain time. I thought this was a bit excessive but I was confidant I could make my appointment and ultimately didn't have a problem with providing my credit card info. After booking my appointment, you're subsequently bombarded with texts and emails (I counted 6 total) about your appointment times, asking you to respond and confirm you're still going and then appointment reminders leading up to the day and time. (These people are serious about you showing up!) My appointment was at 11:00am. I received a call from my stylist at 9:45am (the day of!!) telling me she works two jobs and they booked her for the HairM job on the wrong day and had to cancel my appointment. I was left scrambling to try and find a haircut before leaving town. Pretty disappointing experience for a service I never got to experience.... read more

I've been going to Pedro at Hair M in Lake Oswego for years, and I gladly drive 30 mile round trips just to get my haircut by him. Pedro is an incredibly experienced barber who always leaves me looking sharp with not a hair out of place. The front desk staff is super friendly, and the whole experience is top-notch. When I was a kid my dad would take me to really nice salons. I remember these places being bright and energetic with lots of people running around and cool music playing in the background. I was getting cuts by stylist with names like Gary, Bernard and Gorgio. It was the 80's. These guys were probably doing huge lines of blow in the back office and when they came out to cut my hair they would tell me fanciful stories about the men they picked up the last time they were in Vegas or the fight between the wise guy's wife and his goumad out in the parking lot. You left those places with not only an outstanding haircut but also an adventure worth the price of admission. After experiences like that I guess it's no surprise I'm not impressed by getting a $50 hack job from a millennial that can barely hold a set of clippers let alone a conversation. I arrived on time yet waited 15 minutes for my stylist to clean up her station as other customers arrived and were sat immediately. Once I was finally taken back she made no attempt to talk so I just sat there in silence as everyone else was chatty all around us. I mean, not even a "how's your day." I could tell by how she meekishly held the clippers and scissors that she was gonna do a bad job. When she asked me how I liked it I was surprised she was already done because it looked so bad. I had to ask her to tighten up the peaks sticking out the sides and instead of using the thinning shears she used the clippers so of course the fade ended up too high and clearly uneven. This cut would have been bad for $15 but for what they charge it's a disgrace. I was obviously unhappy but she made no attempt to address it. I had a bad experience here years ago and came back for a 2nd try but I'm done. I can't wait to go back to my $25 stylist that cuts with confidence, makes small talk and wouldn't let me leave without being satisfied. read more

I gave my self time to simmer down and let the management respond to my concerns, but here we are. First of all this isn't a knock on the stylist's themselves. My stylist, Antoni, is incredible and absolutely love how he does my hair. My last visit, was a complete disappointment however. I had booked online, specifically with Antoni. When I arrived I was greeted and serviced by Leo, another stylist. I got nothing against Leo, but Antoni is "My Stylist" and I would not have and did not book with anyone else. They even have a silly ranking system, Antoni is a "Level 4" and Leo is a "Level 2". Antoni is also my "quick book" stylist. So it is very easy(or at least I thought) to quickly book with him. Anyways, they claim that I booked Leo. When I did not. I suspect that Antoni was overbooked (He's that good) and they changed me at some point, to Leo. Last time I had a haircut with Antoni, he was a little rushed and seemed overworked. So it's pretty apparent to me that they overbook their stylists. The manager Chelsea reached out to me and claimed that it was not their fault, basically blaming me for the incident and she kept asking for proof that I had in fact booked with Antoni over Leo. So they could "Send it to the developer". She offered to have me come it and get it touched up, but my hair was already cut, and was Flat for Valentine's Day! I do client work/ freelancing for a living, so I know how hectic booking can be. But you can't BS a BS-er. I either got manually changed in the system, or there is a major glitch in your booking system. Here are some other concerns, Their web-app is un-optimized and laggy. Their emails have been flagged as spam in both of the emails I've used with them Their confirmation Emails DO NOT have the stylist's name on it. If they did, I would have cancelled my appointment. $40+ for a hair cut is too much to have these kinds of issues. Period. Anyways, if you must go here, see Antoni. Been coming here for at least 5 years. Took me a little while to find this place when I moved to Oregon in 2013. I've been seen by Chelsea this entire time, as I usually schedule at least a month in advance. Chelsea always is happy to see me, and listens to what I want to do. Usually, it's just a hair trim and beard trim, but sometimes we have fun. There was a time when I was newly retired from the Navy, that I was letting my hair grow, so we had fun with the different looks that I could and could not pull off. Now I'm back to a more professional look again, and I couldn't be more happy. Will continue to come here for my hair and beard trimming needs. read more

I've been going to the Hair M location in Beaverton for the past few years and it has always been a great experience. I book my appointments with Antoni and I always walk out with a great haircut feeling fantastic about how I look. Antoni takes a detailed and careful approach. He remembers the quirks my hair has and delivers great results each and every time. My wife even comments on how good my hair looks. I usually book the 'traditional men's haircut' and occasionally the 'king's cut'. I'm very disappointed. I called and made a reservation for Father's Day, for my husband to have the royal treatment. I thought it would be a special treat, but it ended up being a disappointing hassle. I gave my credit card over the phone when I made the reservation and indicated I would like to leave a 20% gratuity. On the day of his appointment, my husband texted me because they lost my credit card number and they needed me to call them. Glad I was available at the time! When I called, they said they found my card, but there was no note about the gratuity. What the heck? He said that his stylist wasn't very friendly and didn't offer him anything to drink. He finally asked if he could have something and she said yes, he was allowed to have 2 drinks. Weird way of putting it, but OK. I asked him if he at least got a nice neck and head massage and he said, not really. She kind of haphazardly rubbed for a minute, but seemed like she didn't want to be there. He indicated she was rude and impatient when asking how he would like his haircut (number 2 buzz - not that hard). Really enjoyed my facial from Suzanne. She has a soothing voice and magic hands. I had 3 different treatments that left my face smooth and hydrated. While my face was hydrating she gave a really nice massage. I highly recommend. The hardest part of the facial was being quiet and enjoying it. Working from home makes me a little chatty when I get out of the house, but I am glad I forced myself to relax and enjoy the sumptuous facial in a very peaceful environment. read more

They reached out through their automated system that the stylist had moved to another location and asked if I wanted to use another stylist at the location I use. I replied and said yes. Next day I got a text asking me to confirm my appointment, which I confirmed. When I showed up on Saturday for the appointment they told me it had been canceled. It would probably be beneficial to fix your automated system. No one likes to waste their time on the weekend, it's frustrating. These guys offer a great service, hopefully more shops copy what they do so I can get the same experience somewhere else. read more

Someone from Hair M called me to reschedule my 7pm hair cut to 5:45, as I rushed over I got stuck in a little traffic and called to say I would be 10 minutes late. The girl on the phone said no problem and that they would see me when I got there. This was not the case, I showed up and they informed me that at this point they couldn't cut my hair but instead just a neck clean up. Excellent place for those looking for a haircut with style and a twist of semi-swanky lounge. You can get a beer or a sparkling water (maybe a glass of wine?) while you wait or while you get your hair trimmed. I like the atmosphere. The staff is fairly professional. I appreciate the lady who wears a classy pantsuit behind the counter as she pours you a beer. That's class! And they have a diversity of stylists all well versed on hair clipping. You just gotta find the one who fits your style. Turns out I had found mine on the first shot but didn't know until I tried a few others. But now I return to the one and I'm happy every time. Every stylist seems fairly consistent. And what's very cool and unique is that they actually keep a personalized journal with notes on how you like your hair trimmed! My favorite haircut pace anywhere, I come in feeling ugly and come out feeling like a GQ prince. The place overall is very comforting as soon as your walk inside. Confty chairs and you get to chose a complementary drink (Beer, whine, juice, or just plain water). Everybody is really professional. They make me feel very welcome and my hair stylist Amanda just knows how to give me the best haircuts every time, I always get compliments about from work and family. She knows what will work and what will not after I show her photos from GQ magazines, she is just amazing and that is why I keep coming back. My wife bought me a 3 haircut groupon so I could experience the "Hair M Treatment" I have been hearing so much about. You can take this however you want but when I go to a place called HairM (Harem) I don't expect a haircut by a guy. Not what I had planned. 2 of the 3 cuts were from men. Today I got my 3rd haircut which is ok. But It was not in the normal room where everyone else had a TV to watch or whatever, I was stuck in this offshoot of a room where the guy cutting my hair was trying to sell me on some god damned ponzi scheme to "Invest in other people to generate income" Whatever that means. Update: I actually have become a regular customer here. My new stylist, Jeanna, is funny and witty and our conversations are often interesting. I pretty much stick to the King's Cut L3 and, though it is pricy, I do enjoy my visits to HairM. I felt much more comfortable after being there multiple times. It doesn't seem so pretentious...well, until someone who is pretentious comes in and sits at the bar. You know the guy. Cell phone ear bud, talking loudly about something like cars or stocks. I could use less of That Guy in the establishment. Overall, I think HairM found a good formula for male customers. Antoni was great, really took his time with my son, even though the haircut ran over closing time, he didn't rush him through it.
