Blanca is amazing! And right in my backyard--why didn't I go here sooner? I made an appointment for a burgundy color and had to change it last minute. She was able to get me in within a day of when I was hoping to, which is absolutely fantastic considering the lateness of the original cancellation on my part. I'm pretty well-versed in the color chart so it didn't take long for us to figure out what I wanted. She brought me over a whole bunch of trashy magazines which I love, but I barely looked at them because she is just a genuinely nice, pleasant person to talk with. I don't normally do reviews but I feel this one is needed. I went to get my hair cut by Blanca a couple weeks ago. I had showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair cut length wise & also asked for layers.. I also explained how my hair airs & she said she understood she could do what I had showed her in pictures.. She had me in the chair for maybe 10 mins chopped my hair & said she was done. The more I look at my hair the more pissed off it makes me. She didn't take any time for layers (see picture), did not wash my hair or anything. Terrible experience will never go here again or recommend anyone here. read more

I have trouble seeing my eyelash line to apply eyeliner so I called around looking for a "permanent makeup" artist and spoke to quite a few people. In general, I found the sort to be rather odd. ... sketchy almost. Frightening. I started feeling I'd never find a place I felt comfortable with. Then I called Kim at Hair Focus. She was very nice, friendly and answered all my questions and invited me in to show me her place before I made the appointment. "T Day" came ("tattoo day") and I was nervous. I remember when I had the first lash-liner tattooing done 4 and a half years ago. It wasn't with the gun, but a brush of many needles "tapped" onto my eyelid. The girl that did it was good and patient and I was happy with the results for many years until it faded to almost gone.... thus, I sought Kim. Poor Kim. I put her through some work! "Stop. I need to rub my eyes, it itches" ... "Stop. I want to look"... "Stop" (for no apparent reason) ... "How much longer?" ... "Are we almost done?" Yes; I'm a big baby when it comes to things coming close to my eyes. And, I am impressed with Kim's perseverance, patience and kindness through it all. After two visits (because initially I wanted to go very conservative .. and then asked for "a little thicker" a week later ...) I must say Kim is very talented and her fees are quite reasonable at $150 for the upper lash-liner I received. I'm very pleased with the result! I highly recommend Kim and wish her the best of luck. PERMANENT MAKE-UP - AWESOME JOB!! I needed a touch-up on my permanent make-up. It's been probably 10 years and some of it has faded a bit. KIM DID AN AMAZING JOB! And I had everything done; eyebrows, upper and lower eyelids, and lips. It looks even better than the original job. I LOVE IT! I've been going on and off to Kim at Hair Focus for the last five years. I'm usually fairly happy with the results, though there have been moments where I thought it best just to stick to what she does - hair. Whenever I get waxed here I always find that there are spots missed and hairs not fully removed. Which is fine. She's been great with my hair. Blanca too. However, I recently went in after calling and being squeezed into Kim's schedule. Not only did I wait for over half an hour (again, usually worth it) but as the waiting room filled up I felt rushed and that Kim more or less assembly lined me. The bangs were great, although I had to ask her a few times about little things (I also went home and added more layers to the side as I had tried to explain to her), but the rest of the cut is a mess. It's almost like two completely different cuts. The entire rest of my head gives the illusion of a mullet almost. There's no layers leading into the cut or anything, despite TRYING to show her multiple pictures I'd brought of what I wanted. I'm sad to say that I won't be going back. They're great to their regulars that adhere to the every few weeks touch-ups, but don't expect the service to be consistent. Sad. Be warned of the other stylist too. I was so happy with Kim and Blanca that I brought my roommate here, but everyone was busy except the woman with short hair so she did my roommates cut. When we got home, she discovered a chunk of hair significantly longer and TOTALLY UNCUT! Apparently, she'd tried to get the woman to give her shorter hair and more layers too, only to have her trim up some of the ends. read more

I had been suffering fom 2 bad haircuts in a row when someone suggested I call Blanca @ Hair Focus. She was able to find a slot for both muy husband and I for the following day! My husband went first, and came home very pleased with the haircut as well as the experience. They rush on your nails just to seat other customers down faster. They do it a little to fast and they are pricy for design when the don't even do it perfect , signs are sloppy . Not very decent. They also don't listen to what you want on your nails they basically do what they want on them . read more

Blanca has been cutting my hair for a year or two and I'm always happy. Growing up I would see the layers in my aunts' and their daughters hair, I've asked them each where they get it cut they told me Blanca. So finally as an adult I tried her out and she's amazing! She gives me the dramatic layers I want. No other stylist has been able to blend long length with short layers the way that she does. She does a dry cut which is great for when your in a time crunch. I went here a few times before and liked the work for how cheap it was. However, since then it has gotten worse. First of all, I got 2 different colors of highlights and ANYONE knows that you do not rinse them out at the same time. Well, Blanca did just that so the red ran into the blonde and it looked like a hot mess. I called her and she tried to make excuses and reasons which were totally irrelevant. I did go back and have her redo it not only because of the work, but I paid $120! Plus tip! And after telling my mother in-law, she was appalled that she didn't give me a price cut for being related to a great customer. Neither of us will return. I called to have the nicest consult ever, made the appointment with Blanca and within a day I was in her chair. Not only did I feel like I was the most important person in the room, with her wonderful conversation, I felt like the most beautiful person in the world when I left. The time she took with my wash/color/cut/wax was great. The final result was over the top and stunning. This woman is a gem and truly a master at her craft. I'm not sure about the quality of service for hair, but I am completely unsatisfied with the nail spa. I had French style Gel manicure done, and many things were bad about it. A) the gal "taped off" my fingernail tips, like you would when cutting a line while painting a house, but some of the white leaked under the tape, so the line wasn't very smooth. Even my 7 year old son noticed it..also, some areas she didn't paint all the way to the edge, so it wasn't solid. B) she didn't put much gel on the under tip of my nails so that they would be less likely to peel up, which they did. C) the layer was SOOO thin...didn't even look like gel, according to a friend of mine that gets hers done. D) my nail chipped within an hour of getting them done, and my thumb nail had an air pocket under it, so the gel peeled right off!! I went back today, because they said they would fix it for me. I was under the impression it would be free since my nail job was so bad. I was polite upon telling them what happened, and they still made me feel like they thought I screwed them all up myself. So the gal insisted I get color, which is not what I wanted, but I went along with it because she said maybe it would stick better than the French manicure...I don't get why that would be different. Anyway, she finnished and charged me $12 for nails I didn't prefer after the $39 I payed for the first bad nail job! I payed, but now I'm tearing up with frusteration...I should have taken the initial $39 as a loss and took my business elsewhere. read more

This full service salon seems to be do much more! The owner, Kim, is amazing. She listens to what you want and makes it happen!!! Blanca is the fastest hair colorer I've ever been too. And my high lights are absolutely perfect! Literally everywhere I go I get compliments and have referred my friends to Blanca! Shing is the best manicurist I've ever gone too..(and I've been getting my nails done for 35 years!!! The atmosphere is comfortable... The prices reasonable. Don't waste your money, you can get a better haircut at Lytle beauty school or Super-cuts. Blanca at Hair focus didn't shampoo my hair, didn't condition it, didn't offer to blow dry it afterwards, just gave me a sloppy 10 minutes haircut and charged $30. When I got out my shirt was covered with hair clippings. I am so disappointed and feel ripped off. read more

**This review is long, and only pertains to a disastrous visit to the nail salon, not hair salon** A friend made an appointment for the two of us to have Mani/pedis this past Friday at 3:00. We walked in right at 3, and noticed that the two nail technicians were busy with other customers, so we started choosing our colors. The first thing I noticed is the polish section was a bit on the smaller side, and most of their nail polish seemed a bit old. Once we chose our colors we stood for a few minutes, without really being acknowledged. Finally my friend approached one of the ladies and asked if they were ready for us to sit. Rosie (one of the two ladies working that day) got up from her station and started our hot water, leaving her customer while she did so. At this point we had been there 20 minutes, but assumed that they would be finishing with their customers and start on us soon. Well, we sat in those chairs for over an hour, completely ignored. At this point we were ready to get our feet out of the now cold water and walk out, but my friend decided to check with the front and remind them that we had made appointments two days prior and allow them the chance to rectify the situation. Nope! She returned a few minutes later and said the owner just agreed that the ladies should be working faster. At this point we were trying to decide if we should leave after already investing over an hour there, and figuring out who could take two walk-ins at that time when they made the decision for us and started our pedicures. ( the first thing my friend's nail tech said to her was, "I'm so tired!", which seemed a little weird) My pedicure was ok, not great. Apparently the polish my friend grabbed was too old because as soon as her girl (I wish I remembered her name!) began using it she said it needed to be tossed. She grabbed some replacement colors to choose from, all bright orange or bubble gum pink, nothing like the pretty coral she originally chose. As I sat down for my manicure, a customer waiting on her hair color to set walked over from the hair side of the salon and requested a mani/pedi as she waited, and was told that it would be 10 minutes. Another customer then walked in and Rosie told her that the wait was an hour. The woman told her that she had called 30 minutes prior and was given an appointment time, and Rosie told her that wasn't possible. The owner then overheard the conversation and brought the appointment book over to show Rosie that she did, in fact, have an appointment. All Rosie could do was point out that they were busy and couldn't do it. This was really awkward for all involved, and ended with the woman who had an appointment walking out as well as the other customer offering to give up her mani/pedi. The nail techs told us that the owners will take any and all appointments and walk ins, regardless of how long the wait may actually be. It was quite clear that this is completely true, which tells me that the customer's satisfaction is nowhere near as important as their profit. After being there for over 2 hours, my friend paid the total (as well as a 20% tip, which was extremely generous for the services provided) and after divvying up the money, the two ladies conversed between themselves and then double checked with my friend to see how much she paid. "You gave $50, right? Tell her you gave $50, she's crazy". Weird, awkward, unprofessional. We weren't offered anything for our time, (no discount whatsoever) and we left with two mediocre pedicures (my friend went home and promptly painted over the ugly bright pink that was chosen for her) and our manicures both had flecks of black in the paint, which made us think that the polish was dirty as well as old. We have been to countless salons and have never experienced anything like this. It's possible that we caught them on the worst day possible, but I definitely wouldn't consider returning. The nail techs are overworked and the owners are clearly only interested in making money at the risk of making customers wait around to receive sub-par services. To be fair, Rosie did apologize to me a few times, and I did get the feeling that the timing issues had little to do with them and a lot to do with the owners' scheduling conflicts. Had the owners made more of an attempt to apologize or pretend to care that our appointments were completely ignored, I might consider returning (with my own polish) however, there are far too many salons in the area that actually do care for their clients, and our time and money will be much better spent there. read more

I made an apt for a shampoo and blowout/waves. I came here years ago and saw Blanca - she was good so i didn't think twice making an apt here. However, my experience this time was terrible! I'm not sure the name of the lady who did my hair (she has short curly hair) - she started off with the shampoo, then sat me down to blow dry. This is when it went downhill! She was blow drying my hair in sections! I was super frustrated because I was on a time limit (was going to a wedding in 3 hrs) and couldn't understand why she was doing it in sections (and going super slow). I showed her a picture of what i wanted (simple curls) and she was getting stressed out, she didn't even have a curling iron. 30 minutes into my apt, i had to stop her and I left. How do you work at a hair salon to do hair but cant blow dry hair?!! i went down the street to Dare Devils and Queens explained and luckily they had an opening! Kim has been cutting my hair for 22 years. I've also been lucky to have Blanca and Kimberly cut it from time to time. Kim gave my son his first haircut and cut his hair as he was growing up. When my wife gets her hair cut, she comes here. I have a friend who won't see anyone but Blanca. I just did the math and I have had my hair cut here roughly 200 times. I'm particular about my rapidly vanishing hair and whether it's been 3 weeks or 2 months since my last haircut, she gets it perfect every time. In my many visits here I have never seen anyone unhappy with the service they received. The shop is always clean and the place has a good vibe. I haven't checked out other salons but the price she charges for a haircut seems really fair. Everyone I see there gets the same friendly, professional treatment I do. I've been going here for over 20 years and literally will not go anywhere else! All the stylists are top notch though I've honed in on Blanca now for the better part of my visits here. She is excellent at her craft: I've had color, experimented with bangs a time or two, erased and gone back to neutral--you name it! She is delightful, warm, polite, and generous of smile and spirit! Booking an impromptu appointment has not ever been an issue now and again either. I've long hair that most are eager to chop into or bring up to a more "up-to-date" or contemporary design but she resists even when I might question such a dramatic idea. She's complimentary and kind and, during some fragile or tough times, this calm, kind sincerity and serenity has allowed for balm to my harried soul. And yes, I still sport my long 70's hair due to her modest trims every such-and-such weeks she offers with tender loving care, input, and hair guidance, so-to-speak. I've gone to this salon a few times because it's right up the street from my house. I've had my nails and eyebrows done but until recently i never got my hair cut there. About a month ago i went to get a bang trim and hair trim. she cut my hair dry, no shampooing and then told me it was $25. she charged my card for $5 on accident so asked me to just write the amount on there to correct the mistake. She ASKED me for a tip of $10, which the cut was not worth and i didn't tip her that. when i finally got my bank statement i was charged a total of $35 for a dry trim! i called to complain and they said all the bank statements were at the owners house and they would call me the next day, never heard from them and never received a refund! i went and got the same service at a different salon yesterday for $8 and i am MUCH happier with the cut this time. Ripped me off and didn't care. i will never be back to them again. read more
