I drove 30 minutes to this Hair Cuttery location based on the website stating walk-ins are welcome and even showing estimated wait times--only to be told when I arrived that they are fully booked and do not accept walk-ins at all. If walk-ins are no longer an option, then the website needs to be updated immediately to reflect that. Don't advertise something you're not actually offering. A true walk-in means accommodating customers between appointments or during gaps--not turning people away at the door. This wasn't just frustrating--it was a complete waste of time and money, especially with the cost of gas. Do better with your communication and set accurate expectations for your customers. read more

asked for one thing and got another. The first time I received services here. I was so happy. I even brought another person when I came back. It's def not even close to what I wanted. I wanted blonde highlights and now I have more red/orange, there's banding, the front doesn't look done at all. My hair looks like an absolute freaking mess and I'm devastated. I showed them an inspo pic and stated I wanted the pic. Couldn't do the ombré/balayage effect. They couldn't do it. Which is/was fine. However I said I wanted the blonde that is at the ends for my highlight service. My hair was blonder before. Edit. I will not be returning for a fix or anything. I saw your generic response to my review. Do not trust my hair to be done by your establishment . My hair is awful. Dawn is full of herself -- but with good reason. She knows her stuff. Although I'm a guy with a pretty basic hairstyle, some stylists have managed to screw it up in the past. But Dawn cuts it the same way -- and perfectly -- every single time. Seriously. The same cut. Every time. It's like magic. What do I care if she's a little snooty? I'm looking for a great haircut, not a date. I've had good results with Dani as well, although she takes forever. If you're in a hurry, choose someone else. But if not, give her a try. Very methodical and careful, which I think most people can appreciate. She's quiet and still has a little trouble with some English words and phrases (she's from Bulgaria), but not to the point where it impedes the service. Like most salons -- especially the chain ones -- the Staunton location can be hit or miss if you just go with the "next available stylist." If you have someone you know and trust, though, you could do a lot worse. read more

I did not realize how short my hair was till I got home and looked in the mirror. I asked for a pixie styled cut not a butch cut. I never have gotten my hair cut that short. Not sure why the tech thought I wanted a butch cut. Now am I not sure if I ever want to come back to the Haircuttery. read more

I've been to this location three times in the last year. Each time I've gone, I've had a different stylist, and I've been very pleased. All the stylists there are good at what they do, ask questions about your personal style and routine, and make recommendations without getting pushy. I've had highlights and cut and style, and when I leave I always look and feel great. Gerry and Michele are the last two stylists I had, and both rock. Thanks ladies! read more

Beware of chemical burns! I wouldn't recommend this place. The stylist dropped a comb and the continued to use it in my hair also when she was done with the bleach used on my hair it was taken from that station to be used on someone else! I have also been dealing with chemical burns all over my head since having my hair done. Its miserable. She kept saying 5 more mins for like 40 plus mins. I WAS ROBBED AT SCISSOR POINT: I understood the hour wait as the place was very busy, being Mother's Day Weekend. I understood the place was not-so-clean and tidy. What I do not understand why I paid $19.00 for a shampoo I didn't get, and it cost this just to get the ends trimmed on my long, straight hair, which I put back up myself when the stylist walked off. I told her how I wanted it cut, she started that clip and snip crap, so I politely told her again. "I GOTCHA" and she kept on. I should have never even tipped her. I questioned the shampoo and apparently they charge that to everyone, whether you get a shampoo or not. Not a customer friendly place, and I will never darken their door again. read more

My 85 year old mother in law requested a walk-in hair wash and style on January 16, 2018. They were very pleasant and fit us in, but that was the end of the professionalism. The person cutting her hair gossiped with the woman who took us in and ignored my mother in law while washing her hair. The style (which was $18) took only five minutes and consisted of a blow-dry with a brush to style it. We had requested strong mousse, a curling iron, and teasing - but what she received was horribly unstyled and unprofessional. My mother in law even wondered if the person who cut her hair was licensed. When we questioned her job, the lady was defensive and said "I did what she told me," and did not offer to fix it. Hairs were out of place, uneven, unbalanced and the style did not last. read more

I was hesitant about getting my hair cut here at first. The reviews weren't so good but I realized they were not very recent either. So I decided to give it a try. When I walked in, the place was pretty much empty which again made me kinda nervous. After getting settled into the chair ready for my cut the shop started filling up. So I just beat the crowd coming in a great time ( around noon). Kiea was my stylist. I briefly showed her a picture of what I wanted and she began working her magic. It has been years since I last had a hair cut. I've had some pretty bad experiences that left me trusting no one with my hair. I watched carefully as she cut away years of length. Kiea must have been able to since my tenison because she then would explain or ask before cutting more length when it came to the layers. When she was all done I could not stop smiling. She cut my hair exactly how I imagined it to be. I am so happy with my new hair cut I seriously cannot stop looking in the mirror. I feel great! I highly recommend her as a stylist! I was a walk-in client a little after noon, so I checked in and waited twenty minutes for them to finish the two clients that came in before me, which was fine. The stylists cleaned up the hair and went to the back room. Three more stylists came in and went to the back and after fifteen minutes one of them came up front to count the drawer. She acknowledged me, and once she finished the drawer, I expected to be called soon but I was never called. After a full hour of sitting alone in the waiting room, I left. read more

I went there as a walk up. I wished I had stayed clear of that place. The girl who cut my hair must have waked in off the street without ever going to school for hair styling. She ruined me. A monkey could have did a better job. I will be a least a year getting my hair back. I went back to see the manager, who apologized for her new employee. She did try to fix the mess and offered me a free hair cut. She could not make my hair look good. A free hair cut will not keep me from embarrassment every time I go out of my house. okay -- I am writing this review because I was currently looking for GOOD hair salons for COLOR for WOMEN nearby and this came up with good reviews. Well, I think I should refute this. You see, I have been getting my hair colored for decades, am reasonably picky but not too much, and like one of the reviewers on here, have been to hair cuttery in Staunton three times. Guess what? It is sheer luck if it turns out okay (which it did one of the times.) The final time I went there it was SO awful that I feel it is not worth the chancing it as I did. The woman literally destroyed my hair so that it is still in recovery to this day. She dyed it way too dark which meant she then had to bleach it to get it back which then started the whole problem. Moreover I asked her several times when she insisted on dying it way too dark if that was going to turn out okay (because I had a feeling it wouldn't, but stupidly allowed her to do it in the end.) So to Erika Z -- no, not ALL THE STYLISTS there are good at what they do. WRONG. Totally incorrect. You got lucky, but not all of us out there will, and I would strongly advise NOT getting hair colored at this particular hair cuttery (they simply are not that well trained.) read more
