I've been between a rock and a hard place for a long time now when it comes to hair salons. What does this mean? I have essentially been going back between two hair salons: H by Hisham and Hair Cuttery. On this occasion, I opted to go to Hair Cuttery as I was crunched for a time limit, and good thing, too, because I spent over three hours at the salon. Sigh, the price of beauty. For the past few years, I've been on and off going to this Hair Cuttery. Throughout this time, I have somehow never stayed with the same stylist, but that's simply because this is probably the one place that I have never developed an affinity for one particular stylist. Everyone I have ever let touch my hair has been a god. I always come out feeling like a brand-new spanking goddess. This last encounter I was styled by Madelin and she worked her magic with my fried hair. See, I tend to procrastinate like crazy when it comes to my hair. Before two days ago, the last time my hair had been revamped was about a year ago. I know, I know, the shame, especially considering that I call myself a girly girl. Anyhow, what I like about Hair Cuttery is their convenience. They are everywhere, and not just that, but their prices and services are blatantly listed. I never am left scratching my head as to why they added extra charges. What you see on the website is what you see at the hair salon and it is what is charged on your way out. I ended up getting a package deal consisting of a cut, shampoo, blow dry, plus a dye job and full highlights. After all this, I feel and look like an entirely different person and it's just fantabulous (fantastic and fabulous all rolled into one). Very Friendly Service! Went in for a simple trim. I bought recommended Anti-Frizz products; however, later in the day realized it's not for my hair type. The only issue I find is with returning unopened products. Apparently only a manager can perform the transaction, but there was none on duty the day I went to return the products. I was asked to come on a day the manager is on the premises. I've been coming to Hair Cuttery for the past several years, and this is the first time of needed to return products. It's an inconvenience to ask customers to return on another day for a simple transaction which could happen on any given day. This policy is not customer oriented. read more

I came in last night for a 6:30pm appointment, I had a confirmation email with the hair stylist's name. I came in 10 minutes before and there were two hairstylists on hand. The lady I was scheduled with was Danay and let me just say no customer service skills whatsoever. She said there was a system error and did not have me scheduled, and that she had two haircuts to do which they walked in after me. So even with my email confirmation showing her my appointment details she declined me service and had the other stylist who already had someone in her chair, do my hair. She practically dismissed me. She went on to wax someone's eyebrows and attend the two other ladies. Time had passed, and at some point, the stylist who was helping me stopped to wash out the hair dye from the other client. Midway washing the other client's hair she asked Danay if she could cut the lady's hair while she finished blow drying my hair so that they could speed things up. Danay was doing nothing and available said "don't worry do your thing I'm in no rush". At this points it's around 7:30pm, two minutes later she decides to be a decent human and changes her mind and decides to help my stylist out by cutting the other clients hair, I guess she realized closing time was near, 8pm. Long story short, I was always on the schedule because when she was helping the other stylist check me out she realized I did have an appointment. She didn't apologize nor at any point was offering to help the other poor stylist who you can tell is new. Danay lacks work ethic and professionalism. She should of stepped up to help her coworker since it's her fault for not reading the schedule properly and wanting play favoritism to her regular clients even though she was booked with me. I spent a lot of money here 2 weeks ago and was pleased with my hair that is why I came back but moving forward, I will think twice about coming here since employees like Danay pick and choose when to honor appointments. Future clients beware they don't always honor online/phone appointments and they don't always answer the phone when you call, which was another aggravating thing about them. read more

I have been cutting my hair here for quite a while. I don't drive here JUST for the hair cut but I prefer this Hair Cuttery over the one in Homestead. First and foremost, this location is bright, lively, and very clean. The first time I stepped foot into this location I had to use the bathroom. I'm not a big fan of using public bathrooms but was relived at seeing how clean the rest room was kept. The staff all are very friendly and nice. I personally like getting my hair styled with Noemi, she's was great at creating the look I had in mind. One time I called in late to see if she can give me a trim. She said that she can with no problem. When I arrived she was dyeing a ladies hair which was taking longer than usual. Not longer than usual in the sense that I had to wait a really long time, more like she thought she wouldn't be working on anyone by the time I arrived. I waited for her to finish and then she took me. Note, by the time she took me, they were closed. She cut my hair even though she was off the clock and the doors were locked. In fact, everyone had already left for home and it was just me, Noemi, and the manager. In any other place, your stylist would hurry to get the heck off work, or the manager would give you the stink eye. Not here! Noemi took her time and did a wonderful job. She did not hurry up or try to cut corners. When she was washing my hair, I kinda felt bad when her husband called her worried because she hadn't arrived home. The manager was very professorial and in good sprites. I really like the management and staff at this location. I haven't really tried the other girls but they all seem to be great. If it's your first time visiting, ask for Naomi, she works really well and is friendly. read more

Okay, I am going to spread this far. I am really very upset with this place. On Wednesday 08/25 between 10:30am-11am I walked in looking for a cut at the Hair Cuttery at 16551 W 159th St, Lockport, IL. I was greeted by a stylist but she initially said that it was by appointment only. Then she said that she could take me because the next appointment wasn't until 12pm. Okay, fine. I have short hair. I had to resort to a short cut due to having shoulder surgery and not being able to manage my hair like I used to be able to. It had gotten a bit long with the dark roots, so I wanted to get a cut that would reflect a two-tone and be a little bit on the trendy side. I asked for a pixie cut and showed a picture of what I was thinking. It was supposed to be shaved down in the back, a little spiky on top, and have some bangs in the front. Now, I'm not entirely mad about the shave down in the back, which she used a size 4 clippers to do, but she went up way too high! It looks ridiculous! When she let me look at the back, I made a comment how I had no idea my head was flat. She responded, "I guess you must have spent a lot of time on your back." Are you serious right now? That was not only the most unprofessional thing I have ever heard uttered out of someone's mouth, but very insulting! I just let her keep flapping her gums. I needed her to just finish cutting my hair. I could not walk out with the way I was looking at that point. At any rate, after all of the product she used and the little bit of blow drying, it wasn't extremely bad looking, but not the greatest. I can forgive a bad cut, but it gets better. I do not tip poorly at all. I worked in the service industry and know how badly people depend on their tips. It was a $22.00 bill for a wash and cut so I skipped the pre-selected tip amounts and went to "other" so I could tip $10.00. Well, I somehow tipped way more. I thought it was $20.00 and I said, "Well, it's appears I have given you a $20.00 tip," which she could tell was not intended by the tone of my voice. A man had walked in at that point, which I believe was a customer of hers by the way they were interacting. He said, "What's wrong with a $20.00 tip?" Ha! Whatever guy! At any rate, the stylist told me to click the cancel on the screen, but it was via credit card and it went through! I let it go, and she said something about "next time" but there just wouldn't be a next time. So unprofessional. Well, after I got home from a long day, I looked at my emailed receipt that evening. To my shock and dismay, I had actually put in a $32.00 tip! Now, this is very dishonest on the stylist's behalf, because I know darn well she could see this on her screen! She didn't say one word. Not one! And since she knew that I thought I tipped too much with $20.00, giving the benefit of the doubt, you would think that I would get a phone call from her if she didn't realize until after the fact that I entered $32.00 in error. I emailed Hair Cuttery after this to let them know what happened, and asked for the $22.00 difference of the over-tipped amount. I have not heard anything back. In fact, I should get my full $32.00 back after getting a horrible cut, insulted, and then basically robbed by the stylist. Unreal. I won't be going back - Hair Cuttery lost a customer and I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. Management: Please look up the date and transaction. Use your logic - who tips $32.00 for a $22.00 haircut? And please, I know you are shorthanded right now, but you need to get rid of that woman. Please make this right. read more

My hair stylist was Ana and she was extremely helpful in doing shampoo, deep conditioning treatment, blowdry and flat iron to my hair. She also did my eyebrows and they came out great. I was really happy that one person did everything. They use great products and she was really nice. I would gladly return and do my hair again with her. read more

Went to get a much needed hair cut. I didn't have a person in mind but was lucky enough to get attended by Virgen. She was very sweet and asked me questions on how exactly I wanted my hair. Man did she deliver! She cut my hair in all over layers like I requested. She took her time to blow dry my hair to perfection. So well it lasted a few days. I am extremely pleased. So, the last time I came here it was a couple of years ago. I came in as a walk in and to get a trim and fringe. The place was empty and I was worked on right away. The two ladies that were working were nice. The cut wasn't great - but I didn't mind., I think the price was too high for what I got thoigh. However, the thing I want to complain about is that the woman cutting my hair was SICK. I'm talking about, sneezing, coughing and hocking back her phlegm. I'm new to the area so finding a place to get a haircut without them completely ruining your look for the next couple of months, until it grows out, can be a bit difficult. It's all about trust- I refer to yelp a lot; and from the distance of this place to my house and the fact that no one had anything horrible to say; well I decided to give this place a try. I went to the location to inquire about prices but to also get a feel of the stylists there. I decided to schedule an appointment and returned with my set date. Before even getting started I once again asked about my price (I have thick long hair- so price isn't always as listed on their pricing boards) the stylist told me $17, I was astonished and glad. I proceeded to have her wash and cut my hair. The stylist was very nice- giving compliments and advice on how to treat it; to be honest I was liking how it was coming out. She completes my hair cut and as I go to pay she charges me $55. I completely understand and am willing to pay for what I get; however what she did was completely bad faith- I don't comprehend how you can tell someone a price and then without any advisement or notice change the price. Normally I don't like going to get my hair done at salons because I'm never sure if I'll like the hair stylist I get. However, on my last visit I was lucky enough to be attended by Ana. Ana was very helpful and attentive. During my visit she washed and blow dried my hair. I loved that she helped me find a new hair product that actually benifits me as apposed to previous hair stylists that just try to get a few bucks out of me. My hair has never looked so beautiful or felt so healthy. I am definitely going to this Hair Cuttery every time to be attended by Ana. read more
