the whole experience from beginning to end was horrible. the stylist GEO that did my hair was inexperienced and was shaking visibly while he was doing my hair. I'm not sure he knew how to handle curly hair it. but when it came to styling my hair he sprayed a heat spray in my hair and told me my hair needed it. best thing for my hair. and proceeded to scrunch it a few times and said he was finished styling my hair. my hair was still wet and had absolutely no style to it. and there was absolutely no effort into making it look good. actually I walked out of the store and cried immediately because I felt worse than when I came in. I came in to get rid of dead ends and split hair and I left with dead ends and split hair. my hair still isn't dry after my haircut and it's so frizzy because there was absolutely nothing done to style my hair. read more

I've seen some pretty questionable, short, ugly haircuts from this place. They seem to be scissors happy and not in a good way. It just looked like someone with a mental problem who wouldn't know any better. I forbid my husband to ever go back there. His hair was cut up to the scalp in some areas and a little longer in other places. Awful Awful real ugly. I hated it. I'm sorry to be so direct He didn't like it either. Book online to beat the rush cause this place gets busy, I booked with Teri because she had afternoon availability, Teri was amazing, from the moment I stepped into the building, I was greeted by the receptionist and followed up by Teri. She let me know that she was ready and expecting me and showed me where i could place my jacket and sweater. Once I sat down she asked me what I wanted to have done and she performed excellently. After providing the full haircut services, she made sure i was happy with my haircut and also helped apply my voucher discount. I came here about a month ago looking for a trim and curtain bangs... the trim was fine, curtain bangs went severely wrong. I waited a month to see if I was just not used to the look, or if it was really bad. it's really bad, my stylist, who's name I don't remember, was super nice- however, my "curtain bangs" look like we just grabbed my two front peices of hair and chopped them off. they are too short to fit in a pony tail, which was one of my requests. it's a significant chunk of hair and looks pretty terrible, I have hated my hair since. The service here is always super sweet so I hate to leave a bad review, but I have spent the last month hating my hair and the way it looks, trying to find ways to hide this haircut. anyways, lesson learned- check that your stylist knows what curtain bangs look like before letting them take scissors to your hair! read more

I already knew attempting to do my hair in another state especially Pennsylvania could be questionable and now I wish I didn't but never will again. Apparently anyone can work in a hair salon. Jessica is the worst "stylist" they have! She doesn't know how to cut/style hair despite it being a simple haircut with a picture/guidance on how to do it and another stylist (Nicole/Asian Oriented) had to step in to save my hair because she was not transparent about not knowing what to do as she took a man's buzz tool to work on my hair...she can't do basic things like shampooing hair either where guidance had to be given as well - imagine anything else...it will either be really hot or cold water with no towel over your shoulder to prevent you from getting wet and color still being on the sides of my ear not washed out and running down my forehead where chemicals can blind you if it gets in your eye...when it was time to color my hair lord have mercy, it's all over the collar of my shirt...she must not know how to mix the hair color correctly either because I also had an intense reaction with itching, redness, swelling, bitterness on my tongue and I feel like I've been hit by a truck. I've nevwr experienced this before in my life.She is a liability and hazard. I do not recommend her to anyone because your hair and health is at risk due to her lack of skills, common sense and negligence. God knows how many more stylists like this are working here, beware. read more

I normally get my hair done at the Stone House Inn & Spa in Macungie, but when I found out I needed to be out of town on short notice and desparately needed a hair cut, there was no way I was getting an appointment on such short notice. So off to the chain hair salons I went. I ended up at Hair Cuttery at the Promenade Shops since I had other shopping to do in the area. John was my "hair designer." He wasn't the best stylist I've ever had, but he was a lot better than most stylists I've had in places like that. He listened well to what I wanted and managed to come pretty close. However, the finish work was pretty lousy. When I came home, my husband said he liked it, but he was surprised how frizzy and unkempt it was after coming out of the salon. He's used to having me come home from Jan's great hands and my hair looks like a million bucks for about 24 hours. I left with a decent cut but with a finish style not much better than what I could do on my own. It's not a bad stop for a cut, but if you can't blow dry well (which was the case on most people I saw leaving the place from multiple stylists), I'm sure not going to trust you to color or do anything chemical involving my hair. So you find yourself on a early, and I mean 7:00 am early, Good Friday morning in a panic because you know that you have to make the obligatory "Easter Appearance" at the parent's house on Sunday cuz God knows if you don't, you are out of the will and you were sorta counting on that money to get some new "toys" in the future lol, but the problem is that you look like a hot mess with a mop head full of unkempt hair and you know of the "evaluatory" comments and stares you will get from the "rents" should you show up on Easter Sunday looking like a slob. Of course you make the usual emergency phone call to your hair stylist, but evidently there are a million other slobs out there like me that need to "shape up" real quick before having to see their parents on Easter Sunday and as such there are NO AVAILABLE appointments! Well what's a guy supposed to do? He goes to the ubiquitous and often maligned, fast food like hair cutters where you are lined up like cattle waiting to be slaughtered and taken through a gauntlet of uncaring, gum snapping millennials who leave you with a haircut akin to looking like Alfalfa or worse yet, Buckwheat of the Little Rascals! So I go online to find the nearest location of the local slaughterhouse and I see that there is a HAIR CUTTERY only a short distance from our home in the lovely Promenade Shops and they have a $12.99 SPECIAL for all new customers! Well what the heck I figure, if I'm going to die and get the inevitable Buckwheat haircut, I might as only have to spend just under $13.00 bucks for that honor/distinction. I also note that the "cattle call", oh, I mean their hair appointments start as early as 8:00 am. So I rush out of the house at 7:30 am and arrive at the HAIR CUTTERY located in the Promenade Shops soon thereafter and I get enough nerve to enter the slaughterhouse, again, I meant hair salon, all the while thinking how bad I am going to look after this haircut and out of the blue sky appears a BRIGHT AND HAPPY young woman welcoming me into her salon and reassuring me that she could get me "in" right away regardless of not having an appointment and that, she, the salon's MASTER STYLIST/SALON LEADER would be personally cutting my hair! The young woman's name is/was Maria Angelinas and from the very moment she began to cut my hair I knew that I was in VERY CAPABLE and ADEPT hands. Maria asked me how I exactly wanted her to cut my hair and reassured me that once she got done with the initial haircut and hair drying, that she would be going back over my entire haircut to ensure that it was done to my liking and satisfaction. I mention Maria Angelinas' name specifically so that anyone who was to read this review would have the opportunity to get such a GREAT FREAKIN haircut for less than HALF THE COST of a regular hair salon/barber. That's right, THE HAIR CUTTERY located in the Promenade Shops is absolutely the greatest place to get a haircut and dispelled any of my previous thoughts that they had a bad reputation or prone to do a butchery job on my hair. On top of it all was the fact that Maria Angelinas was actually fun to talk to while she cut my hair unlike the usual conversations I would have with millennials where I rarely conjugate a noun and verb while conversing with them so as to not encourage them to speak to me anymore than necessary lol. Seriously though, half of the experience (for a guy) of getting a haircut, is having it done by someone you WANT to talk to and it doesn't/didn't hurt that Maria is a strikingly beautiful woman and not some smelly, balding barber with bad breadth that would usually cut my hair. Call me stupid, but I think I'm going to keep having a THOROUGHLY COMPETENT and ATTRACTIVE young woman cut my hair rather than some beer bellied "Bubba" down the road in a filthy barbershop lol! Okay, thanks again to THE HAIR CUTTERY and to Maria Angelinas for saving my *utt by giving me a great haircut, thus forestalling the possibility that I would be written out of the "rent's" last will and testament lol! Usually the customer service and professionalism is on point but during my last visit I did not have the best experience. When you have a hair salon the concept of fast food should not be applied to the shop. A lot of times when I walk in I feel like I'm in line at an Arby's and waiting for my food to be delivered. The stylist that I had this time was pretty condescending and really did not do a good job with the way I wanted my hair to be cut. When someone says they want a fade but don't want too much taken off on the sides that doesn't mean you give them a buzz cut! I swear some stylists really do not know how to do fades and in the future I will be going elsewhere for a haircut rather than coming to this cookie cutter style salon. I have been going here for years! I have short hair, i used to have an inverted bob that I am currently growing out. Everytime i went when I was maintaining the bob i was very picky about how it was cut and each stylist was understanding and patient with me. Now that I am growing it out, i talked to my stylist about the steps on maintaining it while growing it out. We were teaching students about giving back to the community. At the end of the lesson high school students cut 14 inches off my hair to donate to a wig charity for cancer patients. Needless to say my hair was a mess. I needed to get in somewhere quick. I decided to try Hair Cuttery. I told the lady who cut my hair this and felt like I was treated as if I had some kind of disease. Besides telling me the price of the wash and cut she didn't speak to me. It was really uncomfortable. After the cut she removed the bib without drying my hair. Being my first time at a Hair Cuttery I had no idea that the price did not include blow drying my hair. I recently took my children here and they each saw whoever was open and both came out with great cuts. This place is always busy so I take that as a good sign! Only complaint is the prices - a little higher than expected for a chain. $13 for a boys cut is higher than average. I have gone to this Hair Cuttery location multiple times in the past without issue. My most recent experience, however, was a very different story. Maybe it was my fault for picking back to school week to get my hair cut. The wait wasn't long, only about 5 minutes. The person cutting my hair had just finished cutting the hair of a boy in a stroller who had a cast on his leg. She actually did a half decent job on it, considering. Then she turned her attention to my hair. Let me clarify, I don't ask for much with my haircuts. I need a simple guy's cut, buzz on the sides with a trim on top. It takes maybe 7 minutes of a concentrated effort to be done right. I wasn't even allotted that. It felt like a whopping 3 minutes and my hair was done. I was not offered a shampoo or rinse, which would have been nice considered the amount of hair that was left sticking to my face and neck. From what I could see in the mirror, it looked...OK. I got home and rinsed my hair. I could now see why I wasn't offered a shampoo, rinse, or gel. The left side of my head had hair about two inches long, the original length when I went in for a cut. The ride side of my head was almost to my scalp. How she managed to cover this up long enough for me to leave, I have no idea. Random patches of hair, the original length, was spread throughout. My girlfriend looked at my neck, and commented that there were multiple areas she had not cut. Her trim around my ears also missed several areas. I am not too upset about the short hair, it grows back. What I am upset about is that I was stupid enough to not ask for a rinse there. I would say it looked like my hair was cut by Helen Keller, but I'm afraid her family might see my hair and sue me for defamation of character. If they can't do a simple guy's cut, why trust them with anything more? read more

Been going there off and on for several years. They are a bit of a drive but they were always professional, had good service, strong customer focus and gave nice cuts. Until now. The woman cutting my hair walked away multiple times to take phone calls etc, never once excusing herself or apologizing. She talked with other employees while cutting my hair. At the same time I noticed how loud and noisy the other employees were - chatting away loudly to each other over the customers. I was a bit annoyed, but the fifth time she started to wander off (laughing) I realized that her focus was on anything but cutting my hair. I can deal with unprofessional behavior and disrespect, but I realized I was probably about to get a lousy haircut too. I couldn't see myself paying for a lousy cut or wasting more time. I got up, took off the bib, explained to her that she very clearly did not have time to cut hair, and I left. She explained her constant interruptions by telling me she was the manager. All I could think was what a poor example she was putting forth to the other stylists. This place had obviously taken a sharp turn for the worse. Found another place on the way home and they finished the job neatly with no interruptions. read more

This place is hit or miss. I've gotten rather good haircuts here, but it's always tough once they grow out because you'll never get the same cut twice, regardless of whether you have pictures of the previous one. I generally take who is available, mostly because I'm too lazy to schedule a haircut ahead. That said, the last time I was in, I got possibly the worst layering job done to my simple, layered, just longer than shoulder length hair. I was so embarrassed by it that I have no pictures, but the hairdresser cut one layer MUCH shorter than the others. I'm talking barely reaching my earlobes, while the rest was cut normally and hit below my shoulders. It made my hair look thin and looked incredibly unflattering on my face. This place is cheap but may not be ultimately worth the risk or stress about a potential awful haircut. read more

I decided to go to Hair Cuttery today after work. I go in see there is one person sitting and waiting for his turn so I sign in and decide to wait also. As I wait I hear one of the hair dressers tell someone over the phone to come in at 6:15pm tonight to see her. Mind you I have been here waiting 20 mins already and still have not been called. So one of the other Hair dressers finishes with another client comes over and calls a name me nor the other person waiting moves. So she calls another name and the person next to me gets up. As I am patiently waiting its now 6:15pm and the person who called in walks in (mind you im now waiting 45 mins) and the lady who took her call brings her back and disreguards the list with the people who were there before she called in. Now I would not have been as upset if I hadn't already been there 45 mins. These things happen. Another one of the Ladies finishes up with a client. So I am like yes my turn. Then another person comes in and sits down next to me. And I thinking my name is getting called next. I thought wrong the person who left because the wait times are crazy was the person who sat down and they called him back. At that point I have been waiting 50 mins and was only acknowledged when I put my name on the list 50 mins prior. I waited 5 more minutes no one helped me and I left. I will never go back to them again. I usually by my hair products from them and get my hair cut there. Never again and I will go on facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites and let everyone know about my terrible experience. They will not get my business, or business from my family members ever again. read more
