He likes to ask questions and then listen to you and when you have given him your explanation of what you want he begins to work on it, in my case we talked for quite a while because I was gonna get both a color and haircut and both were gonna be interesting to say the least. When we got through with the consultation and he began to work, I was very confident and got good vibes from him when he's explaining everything that he's doing because we started with the color first, and even for my haircut, he explained everything by feeling my head first and looking at my growth patterns, and whether I had wave or curl or straight hair. I've never had all this from a hairdresser! He made me feel very comfortable in his salon and it's very cute! I was really surprised at the color because he used four separate tubes using a little of this and a little of that and measuring every bit of it and writing it down so it can be duplicated, and when we got through it not only repaired my other hair color, but it was exactly the shade of red copper that I wanted, and he told me he could do that using a developer made from seaweed that helps your color not fade, and those of us with red color, we know how quickly it fades! He puts everything into it! I went from having stringy long hair to a graduated, layered swing Bob with bangs that swept and everything was measured and although it seemed complicated. What he was doing was he made it simple for me to take care of, and I couldn't believe how well everything falls into place. Coolest experience ever! I have curly hair, and Trent used super unique techniques that I never saw another stylist use before to cut my hair. It looks amazing, I've seriously never had a cut like this! And I loved that they would explain why they're using the techniques that they're using, and talked you through the whole process so you always knew what was happening. It wasn't like any other cut, it was so cool and unique! Plus, you won't just be getting a professional haircut, but you'll be getting an entire personalized lesson on how to take care of your hair properly, unique to the hair that you have! I unfortunately did not have a good experience. Trent was late and then did not value my time. Upon arrival and I suspected a little tipsy due to stumbing down the hallway ,made a personal call and talked in length to the person on the other end. Then sat down and took off his shoes and started rubbing his feet. Talked and talked about personal life and weird topics. As an hour passed with not an attempt to start my hair and whatever cocktail that was being consumed, I decided I was going to pass on this attempt. I just feel it was unprofessional in so many ways. Rubbing his feet and then going to touch my hair was just the icing on top of this experience. I would suggest to be more professional in appearance and in actions and to value a client's time. I called this place an hour before they opened on Sunday. I wasn't optimistic because it was last minute and Sunday was the day with the shortest hours. Phone rang and was picked up quicker than I could rethink my decision to call a business before they opened. Lol. From the first moment we spoke I knew I was going to love this place. I have been researching getting a hair treatment to manage my curly hair. I love it but I wanted a few months where I could focus my time on other things (not being lazy just prioritizing my time as Trent would say ) out of the top $$$$ salons I've looked in to from California, to Las Vegas, and finally here in Dallas no other place made me feel so sure in contacting them. I was going on my honeymoon in another state in less than 24 hours and was just looking for more information but to my surprise Trent said after his first client w/ an appointment was done I was free to come get my hair done that day!!! I put up a fight insisting we'd be there past his hours and he genuinely cared and made it seem like it was no burden at all. Like a friend helping a long time friend. Not a stranger over the phone asking for the longest service he offered (I think lol) Well I ended up getting a Keratin(?) Global hair treatment (I'm not sure of the name but I believe this is it.) which seemed far superior to other competitive hair treatments out there (Brazilian blow out and the regular keratin treatments) He made sure to completely explain everything and how my hair would benefit from this treatment I felt like I was a professional myself. I'm more educated than most on keeping your hair long and healthy since middle school me completely ruined my pretty curly hair with bleaching and box dies and straightening it every day. But talking to Trent I noticed I was correct in knowing a lot of things most people don't but there were sooo many things the industry teaches stylist to capitalize on consumers time and money instead of putting the effort to help people. There's not many people on this earth who are like Trent and it totally blew my mind how kind and intelligent he was but how he could completely take advantage of his skills like most salons and leave the customer happy but slightly uneasy and confused walking out of the salon. I got my hair trimmed and for the first time ever, I walked out extremely satisfied and itching to come back!!! Not only did he educate me on growing my hair to the healthiest it's ever been, as a psychology major and health nut I enjoyed my time here sooo much. I'm a people person and can be super bubbly but after a couple hours I'm socially drained and can't wait to escape and have alone time. I sat here for a few hours, more than any other salon, but not once did I want to leave. I know many people are looking for a quick fix to their every day hair style but I'm telling you, if you can afford to spend more time in your busy lifestyle you won't regret it! The extra hours spent here gaining knowledge on my hair, that is extremely beneficial and most customers are never told, I would recommend it!!! & not only did I gain information for my hair but in other subjects as well. It took me some time to write this review as I've been on my honeymoon but I've already recommended this place to all of my friends!! Which if you know me know I do not do that. No salon has left me so happy. Do not get me started on his prices.... I honestly felt like it was a robbery on my end. His talent demands higher prices but he is also a human who thinks of his customers first instead of how much we can put in his wallet. I've struggled to have my curly hair cut properly and have had very bad experiences over the years. A lot of stylists and barbers I've had don't seem to know how to work with curly hair, and often cut it in ways that look unflattering. I have to say as I stumbled across the salon while doing a search on Google I was a little skeptical at first. I looked for a few other places and my search took me back to Hair by Shenanigan's. Well I went ahead and called up the number and got a person by the name of Trent. What was actually surprising to me was he actually took time to introduce himself to me, tell me about his salon and the types of services over the phone. I told him that I was wanting keratin done on my hair. And during our call I could see that he was really in tune with my need and was able to reduce my concern and anxiety. This was not going to be my first time getting this treatment done on my hair since I had it done in another state through another salon. I called around midday, and asked when the earliest i could get an appointment was, i was told, that 615 the next day was the earliest, when i explained that that wouldn't work for me, instead of insisting on an even later date, Trent went out of his way and stayed open late for me to be able to get my cut that day. I get to the location, and Trent meets me at the door, with a smile and a wave, truly welcoming me into his world. I sit in the chair, show him the idea I wanted to work with, told him my general thoughts, and we bounced some thoughts around before agreeing on a starting point. About halfway through, we were having a good conversation, and he asked me to consider a different position on the hair cut, and explained a little about my hair that i did not know, (growth patterns and such) and showed me a few things that ended up looking super cool. By the time the cut was over, we were having a great time, and then he started talking to me about his color dyes, and the different brands that he uses, after seeing the remains of a previous color/ bleach in my hair. Absolutely in love with this stylist! My henna hair craze last year ended after the brand of henna I was using had inside of it a compound henna mix of indigo, which turned my hair horribly dark shades of navy blue, violet, dark green, and mint. While not a terrible shade for the wild child in me, it was obviously a shock and at worse, PERMANENT. Several weeks of peroxide baths, lemon juice, honey, bleach, vinegar baths, coconut oil, and the final kill of vitamin c masks absolutely FRIED my poor locks. Of course I went to Sally Beauty and bought the highest recommended hair masks and (I still swear by it when used correctly) Aphogee's protein and keratin reconstructers and immediately started the process of bandaging my cotton candy textured locks. Even though that effort might have helped what had turned into a nasty, gummy mess, it was still falling out and breaking every time I ran my fingers through it and took 2-3 hours to air dry.  I've been saying for awhile now that I needed to go to get it cut, and just get over the fact that my length I had so cautiously grown and learned to "care for" was murdered and needed be chopped off. I was on my way to accepting pixieland, and browsing short styles I might like. Then I met Trent, a regular at my coffee shop with his own flair of uniqueness and incredibly personable and genuine attitude.  He wowed me with his persona and his over-all good naturedness. He told me he was a hairdresser, and I was like,"Okay, heard that before. I need a cut, and he's cool, let's look him up."  So he gave me his salon card,"Hair by Shenanigans" and three weeks later today, I was ready for the pixie. Or crazy color. Whatever. It's already wrecked, let's have fun with it. About two days of consultations through email, I gave Trent my hair history and what he'd be dealing with. Most salons hear Henna/bleach horror stories and say "How short you wanna go?" His response? "I have a few things to make your hair feel not so bad." So I go in, ready for the courtesies of stylist to client and yet with a no nonsensea approach he begins with, "Yes it's bad, it needs a cut, but it isn't as bad as what you think. Lets try this..." He simply shampoos and conditions my hair with a brand called Thermafuse, reteaches me how to wash it in the shower and how to use wet brushes to get the tangles out. All the while, my hair does not fall out in clumps or or tangle into a gummy mess like it has for the past 2 months. The proof came with a fine toothed comb when I had ZERO hair loss. He broke down the basics of the ingredients in the products he was using and and the science behind the effect they had on my hair.  Cut 3 inches off the bottom to make me happy as I didn't believe two was enough, and gave me a super flattering cut to frame my face. The results hit me hard with the virgin like texture of my hair and the silky smoothness and shine of it all.  Easy.  I was floored.  I doubt I have ever had a stylist this amazing, and helped tame the insane amount of damage my hair had acquired in one visit without...pixieland. No waivers, no "We are not responsible in the event of you going bald" legal contracts.  Just Trent, and his stellar confidence. Prices are extremely fair and well worth it, but the advice and experience are what you leave with forever. He gets it. He absolutely gets hair. He's also really, really sweet and friendly!!! Trent is the best. I've been looking for someone who's proficient in Global keratin treatment for so long and I've finally found what I've been looking for. He exceeded my expectations. The rest do this treatment in an hour or two but Trent took more than 4 hours because he's a perfectionist and he is so detail-oriented. I've never had a Keratin treatment that lasts that long in my hair before although I've been doing keratin/ getting keratin treatments done since 2009.
