Brian ruined my hair. I had beautiful hair. I used to do it myself, but I needed a break and something different. My extensions/ weaves were always beautiful and lasted a long time, but one day he begged me to allow one of his stylists at the time to do my hair. I have major trust issues, but he was behind and he knew I needed to be out on time. The stylist forgot to leave my edges out. After all the time and money, I didn't take it out thinking it would be OK, but NOPE, my edges are gone. Brian's short cuts are always amazing. One day I went to get a retouch and he left the salon. The man he left there, I don't believe he was qualified to handle my hair, left the perm in too long and my crown has never been the same. I made an appointment through StyleSeat and received confirmation of my appointment. I got to the location listed about 10 minutes early, which is an apartment building. I messaged on StyleSeat and got no response. I had to search for his number through instagram, and when I called he informed me that he was located at another address. I looked up the directions and texted that I would now be late, as it was a 25 minute walk. He called back stating it was "only an $8 uber." When I responded that it was ok, I would not be paying for the service as well as the uber, he hung up on me mid sentence. I texted back stating that it was unprofessional to hang up on me, and requested that I not be charged for the service cancellation. His response verbatim was: "If was listening to what I was trying to tell you . Is to take uber and would have took off whatever you paid " There was never an apology, or any customer service whatsoever to indicate this, only hanging up and mentioning how much the uber was. I wanted the perfect platinum pixie. my haircut is horrible, he damn near made me bald. I showed this man inspiration pics and talked with about what I wanted and he did the exact opposite. I had to shave my head bald because there was no fixing it. Brian said that he would send me half of my money back but he never did. Ladies!!!!! Stay away from Hair by Brian. He also has lawsuits. I have been a client of Brian's hair services since 2019. Although I had heard negative comments about his character from individuals I personally know who have worked with him, I did not take their concerns into consideration as they did not affect my experience with him. He had cut my hair on several occasions, and aside from the long wait times, I had never encountered any issues. Recently, I decided to take my daughter to him on August 7th. The day prior, I visited him to show him a video of her hair and a picture of the style and color he had done for someone else. He quoted me $220, but I asked if he would accept $180 considering I am a repeat customer, my daughter is a teenager, and I have referred numerous clients to him. He agreed. My daughter arrived at 10:00 am, but Brian was not yet present, which was the usual. At 12:00 pm, I took a break from work and drove 30 minutes to check on her progress. Everything seemed to be going well, although the color did not exactly match the picture. I was fine with that because I know it's a process and it won't be exact. I left and returned to work. At 2:30pm my daughter sent me a picture of the color and it's nothing like the picture. She stated she didn't like it. I told her it still looks good but I'll just call and ask what happen out of curiosity. I called Brian I said "hey it's me my daughter is there getting a cut." His first response was confrontational saying. "No she's not getting a cut, she's almost done." I disregarded that and asked about the difference in color. He says to me "you only had $180 and I worked with your budget. " He said "that style and color is $400!" I was so confused of so many things, the attitude, the defensiveness. So I said I showed you a picture you said $220, you should have said $400. So you're telling me it cost half more to color the rest of her hair? Doesn't make sense. I said "I'm not calling to confront I just like clarity. He says "I'm not going to have this conversation right now because I have a customer." and hung up Still trying to overstand what was all that disrespect for as if I'm not a paying customer as well for many years, and if you have a customer in front of you why are you acting out like that in front of another customer without controlling your demons. I asked my sister to go over there to see what's going on. He says to my sister very nice and calm he didn't want to color all of my daughter's hair so light to damage it. Which is totally understandable. That's all he had to say to me. I guess he wants to be more careful now after his lawsuit. I was taken back by his disrespect and lack of professionalism. Anywho, I had to visit the salon myself as my daughter's hair was not finished until 6:40 pm, and her phone was dead. Despite being a reasonable and easy-going person, I felt disrespected and unsatisfied with the service. The final result did not match the picture, and my daughter was unhappy with her hair. I have come to realize that the allegations I had heard about Brian's behavior were true. Every time I visited him, there were new workers and a new location, indicating a lack of consistency and stability. His unprofessional behavior was unacceptable, and my daughter did not attend her event because she hates it. Better communication especially when Brian made an personal appointment for himself on the same day as my appointment and failed to inform me that the day of my appointment is not conducive to his schedule which we could have work something out instead of having me drive an hour and 30 minutes from where I live. It's not like we didn't have a conversation prior to me coming to my appointment. At no time did Brian mentioned to me that he would be extremely late for my 12:00pm appointment on March 26th. Brian made the decisions to have me waiting which I truly thinks that was unfair not only that I tried calling him on his cell phone to talk to him which he kept hanging up on me. Jasmine is the best when it comes to natural hair. She did my first silk press back in 2015 and my bounce back was real (will include pics). She never overheats, cuts too much, or does too many passes with the flatiron. She also detangles prior to washing. I first met her randomly at a hair salon in Brooklyn, she was so amazing that I had to go back a second time. I found out that she did not work there anymore and received such an uneven trim that I decided to try another salon for a silk press. I went to H2 and actually received the worst heat damage in my natural hair history. Scarred and scared, I decided I didn't need heat if I couldn't find Jasmine. I went on a google spree with her first name and the salon where I met her, found an interview she did while working there, googled her full name with different salon terms and came across a phone number on a deactivated online account (I know that was kind of stalkerish, but all for a good cause lol). I reached out to the number via text and lo & behold, she replied. Since then, she has been my go-to stylist, and I will continue to go to her wherever she goes. You will not regret going to her. If I could give a negative star I would. Sorry for the lengthy post but seeing all of these reviews and him on the news brought my frustration back up. IF YOU LOVE YOUR HAIR DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON! Let me first say I have been natural for over 10+ years and I have always done my hair myself because I just didn't find anyone who I felt I can trust with my hair. I decided to go to Brian because my boss vouched for him since she went there. At the time I went to Brian's Salon my hair was about Bra Strap length when straightened. I went to Brian 2 years ago for a new look. I was turning 30 and graduating from college. I booked a cut, color and curl style for $250 and did not receive that service. Like others stated I too waited about an hour or so to begin my hair. The wait didn't bother me so much because I'm Jamaican and I know sometimes going to West Indian Salons can be a bit of a wait. Although it wasn't crowded I still needed to wait a while and I was given no apology or reason as to why it was such a long wait although at one point he sat next to me to confirm what I was getting, approved my payment on his device BEFORE starting anything and told me it'll be about 30 mins which was in fact another hour. My appointment was at 3 and I didn't leave the salon until maybe after 9 or so. I spent a good portion of my birthday at that salon for nothing! When he eventually started my hair I showed him 2 colors I wanted and the style. I was unsure which color to choose so I said as a professional I trust him to make the right decision for me (I was ok with either one). He then says he's gonna do something special for me. He bleached my hair BAD and the color he did was nothing of what I showed him. Although I didn't hate the color in the end I was annoyed that it wasn't what I asked of him. While I was under the dryer it seemed like a friend or relative of his came and they might've been getting ready to go somewhere or something because they were bringing things from inside the salon outside. NOT ONCE DID BRIAN APPROACH ME AND INFORM ME THAT HE WAS LEAVING OR NOT COMPLETING MY HAIR AND THAT SOMEONE ELSE WOULD. I booked a service with him and I DID NOT receive it. At this point I have the perm rods in my hair drying and I'm the only one left in the salon. The other women stylist in the salon only trimmed my ends and then as she was taking my perm rods out she said that I have to leave some in because my hair was still wet and when I go home I can finish it. I PAID $250 TO BE TOLD TO FINISH MY HAIR AT HOME. When I got home I cried because my hair looked a mess. I felt like I looked like Ronald McDonlald. I immediately sent him pictures with a message of how disappointed I was and wanted my money back because I didn't receive a service I paid for. He offered to redo my hair although I reassured him I have a tight schedule with work and my children and it would be hard to and that the main reason for me getting the service that day was because I was having a photoshoot and my graduation ceremony the next morning. After going back and forth about receiving money back he agreed and said that he would give me back something and I never got anything. Seeing him under investigation on the news and all of these reviews shows me that I need to open back up my case that was denied for my money back. I've had to basically start over with my hair cutting so much of it off and buying products to try and fix the horrible mess he did with my hair. read more

**DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON** I left a review on Style Seat TOO SOON‼ I went in with a head full of hair, and came out with my hair 2 inches short and CHOPPY‼ Granted I DID go in for a haircut, but I got nothing like what I asked for. My hair was lightened with a 40 volume developer, and I know this because I heard his assistant say it with my own ears. It was then bleached again in the same sitting with a 10 volume developer. Needless to say my hair broke off. He then attempted to blame the condition of my hair saying it was weak after he told me how much he loved it when I sat in his chair for my consultation. My guess is that it was so bad he had to cut it off at the sink. What he does not know is that I had a trim exactly one week before going to his salon for services. My hair had not been color treated since August of 2020. It's now April. Even if he would have cut off the previously colored hair I still had roughly 5 inches of virgin hair that he chose not to preserve. When I asked his assistant why my hair was cut shorter than I requested she specifically said, "Sometimes that happens with the blondes. When the bonds break the hair breaks." Unfortunately, I didn't find out for 2 days that my curl pattern was completely lost and my hair is now fully straight. Why? Because they perm rod set it so I left with curly hair, and it looked good so I was disappointed yet willing to work with it. I have been natural for 8 years. I now have to cut off all of my hair since every single strand has been over processed and damaged. In addition to that I suffered a chemical burn from the bleach that has now left a scab on my scalp. They do NOT specialize in natural hair. I am leaving this review because Brian Andrew attempted to call me a liar on Style Seat by saying he doesn't carry 40 volume developer in his salon, and blaming my breakage on a previous coloring service when his assistant told me with her own mouth that my hair broke off. I called him out on it and HE is the one who lied to my face. I was lulled into a false sense of security thanks to the facade of his emaculate salon thinking this man and his staff were licensed professionals who understand their craft, but it is the furthest thing from the truth. I had an appointment at Brian's shop today at 3:30pm. First, I waited 42 minutes for my appointment despite me being on time. I wasn't notified about the reason behind the delay or when will my actual appointment will begin. After my long wait and I was able to go inside the studio. I was disappointed to see that there was two more people in front of me--still no communication on why Brian was behind and when I would get seen. It seems like I was double booked for the same time as someone else. Secondly, I am concerned about COVID-19 precautions at the shop. There was a lady talking without a mask. And it also seems a lot to have 8 people in a crowded salon. I am disappointed that I did all the steps right, like make my appointment on Style Seat and asking the necessary questions before hand. After waiting for like an hour and realizing that I wasn't going to get seen, I decided to leave and cancel my appointment. No one apologized for my time being wasted and why Brian was an hour behind. read more

Who ever reads this post, please take it seriously if you love your natural hair. I'm writing on behalf of my daughter who grew her natural hair out for 4 years and after going to Brian's for a platinum coloring. She has to cut it all off and start over. Needless to say, she is very sad about the turn out. She only went to Brian's because he had some good reviews and did not look at any negative reviews because she wanted to support the black business; however, she realized that this decision was big mistake. I must say that Brian did not do her hair, but one of his assistants did. The lesson is to trust the owner to do your beautiful locs. read more

I had a big chop in January 2018 so In July 2018 I went to him for finger waves. I had about 2.5- 3 inches of hair as well so the person/woman who prepped my hair put the perm ALL OVER. One thing I didn't like though was someone else prepped my hair (RedFlag1) and he only styled it as well as being there for way too long . However, it was my first visit giving it a benefit of the doubt by the end I loved my hair. I paid $125 including my $10tip. No prices posted in salon (RedFag2). Fast forward to December 2018 I went back again for fingerwaves. I had atleast 5 months of hair growth since I seen him in July 2018 but a total of almost a year of hair growth since my big chop in January 2018. Again, the same woman prepped my hair and Brian styled it. This time I was charged $145 including my tip(RedFlag 3). Which made no sense since I got the SAME EXACT THING! Make that make sense sis??? After the fingerwaves got old. I first washed my hair beginning of January 2019 where I experienced shedding nothing serious since my hair usually sheds a little in winter. I washed it again 3 weeks later end of January 2019 and this time my hair was literally shedding to the point that no matter how many times I combed it strands of hair were all over the shower(RedFlag 4). Again I thought maybe Im just not moisturizing my hair enough so I up'ed the moisture. I didn't wash my hair in February 2019 at all. Now March 2019 came around and this is where shit got BAD. I put shampoo in my hair like I normally would and noticed my hair texture just felt gummy. It was weird and the more I massaged my scalp I noticed my hair became matted and wouldn't separate. Just imagine putting melted gum in your hair and your hair being tangled into knots within a knot. Combing it out Impossible I literally began freaking out. It was just strange because just two months ago in January 2019 my hair was fine just shedding. Now there was No elasticity at all rand every little movement it just snapped off I began crying. The next morning I ran to a nearby salon and immediately she asked me, the person who prepped/permed my hair put it all over or just on my new grown. I said the woman put it all over. She told me "Sorry honey that this happened to you but she over processed you hair, and should have only put it on your roots and not all over your hair. Its literally the most basic and first thing you learn in hair school, perms should be placed on new growth ONLY, after already having a perm prior otherwise the ends will be fried and fall off." The reason why my hair was okay in July when she put it all over is because I had all natural new growth from my big chop in a TWA so it made sense to put it all over. So when I went in December 2018 because I already had a perm it was suppose to be placed on my roots only which is where she fuked up. I called Brain on speaker phone while still at the salon which he didn't know. I explained how my hair was and his response was I should have came in January 2019 when I realized something was wrong. He admitted the woman who prepped me hair no longer worked there (Red Flag 5) and ADMITTED that she over processed my hair. However, I explained I had no clue my hair was shedding because it was over processed I simply thought it was due to lack of moisture. Again!!!! I am not a professional so if my hair was gummy in January 2019 than hell yeahh I would have went in immediately. However, that wasn't the case. Brain cut off atleast 7-8 months of hair growth, and said I had to reperm my hair to balance it out. I told him to be honest because if I had to shave my whole head I'd prefer that than to perm it again on top of my hair already being over processed. Brain said I didn't have to shave my hair, he'd take care of it and the ONLY way to balance it out was to cut and perm my new growth, and gave me fingerwaves. The fact that your employee fucked my hair up after my big chop and damaged perfectly natural new growth the service I felt WOULD BE FREE. Not wanting to assume and really tested his integrity of a stylist I asked, is this going to be free....? He said No, I going to charge you half. I asked whats half, he said I'll let you know... continued perming my hair, washing it out, and sat under the dryer. When it came for him to style my hair I still had no cost of what half was. I asked and he said $65. Brain explained its 75 for a perm and 65 for fingerwaves. So I'd pay for the least expensive service. I informed him that I didn't think it was fair I pay anything considering the situation.His response "Well Your getting something by getting your hair fixed, and I'm getting something for fixing it." (RedFlag6) In shock I than realized he had no integrity, professionalism, and no accountability for his employees actions. Ugh... this guy... He's an excellent hair stylist, but he's disorganized, lazy, and doesn't know how to run a business. I used to see him when I was younger before I knew how to speak up. I really have never been a fan of glued in tracks... I want them sewn in... he's extremely lazy though and would spend my entire wash and blow dry trying to convince me to just allow him to glue it in - it's obviously a faster process. Once I went to him for a ponytail and bang and asked that he sew in the bang. He already knew by then that I don't do glue, and I specified it just in case. He kept saying glue is better, I stuck to my guns this time "No, no... I don't like it"... I wasn't paying attention while he was doing the bang bc I thought it was settled when I looked up and just as I opened my mouth to say "no glue"... SMACK! He smacked it right on and my little younger-pushover self and he made eye contact and he literally looked at me nasty - like F U... I was appalled. Literally every time I went to him, I would have to beg him to give me the style I wanted. One time I was pushed to tears, smh... ridiculous. Another time I kept going back and forth with him and this older lady in the seat next to us turned over and said "why don't you give the girl what she wants?!?!?" He would spend the whole time trying to convince me I didn't want what I wanted, whether it was a style, a technique... and never had a real plausible reason why it couldn't be done. On two occasions he didn't even do the style appropriately and refused to fix it. Once it was a ponytail - he tried to be fast with it to get me out and this bulb was sticking through the weave of the ponytail, I pointed it out to him and asked that he fix it. He "convinced" me it was fine and not to worry. I look like an idiot with it for like a day and came back... HE. WAS. PISSED. I had an appointment with him on at least 3 to 4 occasions to which I showed up and he was nowhere to be found. Once, I came and someone else working there said he was vacationing in Antigua. -_- On the other times I came, the store wasn't even open and I waited for him - I'm talking hours. We would text and he'd say he's "on his way." Sometimes he showed, sometimes he didn't. The final straw was a weave he did that came out wrong - by then he knew he could just take my money and he totally bullshitted it... I asked that he do it over, he told me to come another day. I came and he wasn't there... I was livid and told him about himself. He called me and tried to fake-punk me, lol. He sounded stupid. I literally just told him he's really talented, but he doesn't know how to run a business. As stupid as it sounds, I put in documents in small claims to sue him, lol. But I was so young and scared so I didn't show. Doubt he did either. I think Judge Joe Brown or that other judge contacted me for the case, LMAO... I was like hell no, lol... LONG STORY SHORT: You can make an appointment with him, just know it may or may not be honored. Request a style from him, but know that it may or may not be done. Jasmine and Brian have blessed hands and the patience of a saint. Went for color, trim and rod set and left looking amazing. Never understand how people complain about time spent at the hair salon when your asking for such detailed services. When you get braids some styles take 5 hours or more but you want your natural hair style to be 30 minutes. Girl Bye ‍. I've been here twice and I make sure my schedule is clear for the entire day, phone is charged and I have a good book. The salon is decorated nicely with a soothing water fall sounds and comfy chairs. These two stylist are amazing and made me feel so comfortable throughout the entire process. His other assistant informed me he was in the DMV (nothing to do with me ) . I simply asked if I could head out and take care of something and return when he came back. She stated I needed to pay for the service before I could leave ( hair still undone ), then she told me Brian instructed his assistant to complete my hair . 2PM came along and Brian finally reached out to me stating he was a HALF and HOUR away . Upon his arrival no sympathy was shown , not even a apology . He actually charged me for the entire service being 3-4 hours late . My hair is the worse he's ever done it , very flat . Waste! I arrived at the salon at 2:40, for my 2:45 appointment. I didn't leave the salon until 10:15pm. I sat and waited to be seen until 4:40pm. Then the bleaching process started, then I sat and waited again for another 20 minutes. Then the color started, not the right color, I was burned on my neck and back of my hair. The bleach was not washed out and the color I requested was not applied twice to get the actual color. My hair cut was rushed and not done as requested, he just cut however he wanted. My hair was so yellow, when I specifically showed him a brown dye with blonde undertone. I had to go to another salon to get my hair fixed two days later.
