With a loud POP! the air conditioning compressor in our aging HVAC system developed a leak. Having just replaced the fan motor, the last thing we wanted was to replace the whole HVAC. But then a guy from Hackney came over and showed us other components that were about to give up the ghost. He made a convincing case for a new system. Twenty-four years is a long time for an AC! Bright and early the next day, the Hackney crew was at our door, ready to get to work. Before the sun went down, we had a brand-new system that cooled the house like a dream and was noticeably quieter. They even fixed up and sealed all the conduit fittings on our roof without us even asking. Talk about going the extra mile! From start to finish, the whole deal with Hackney was smooth, professional, and friendly. We're happy with how it all turned out and super glad we found them! read more

Great service ! Great installation of our entire AC system. These guys were so nice and professional. They got it done fast! It works great. The owner came himself to check on something when we had a question. Great value much better than what we were offered from the Costco people. read more

My 2007 furnace has been off more than on these last few cold months. Finally called Drew Sr at the recommendation of a trusted friend. He had James here in 30 minutes, and my furnace was replaced within 3 hours the following morning - In pouring rain! Every person was professional, cordial, and detailed. Their price was reasonable, competitive, and exactly what they quoted. I couldn't be happier and already referred them to another friend. read more

I had Hackney install a complete hvac system and insulation in my home in 2018, everything went great, Drew was there through the entire process. No complaints. Last month my heater would not turn on so I called the company that I've used for my PM service and they informed me that their was an issue with the installation of the unit that was causing the problem and it would cost$$. At this point I called the warranty company and it was suggested that I try Hackney first, but if not any reputable company would be fine. So that's what I did. And the screenshots are the response from Dallas Cox. So what Dallas is saying is even though I spent almost 20k for a system I'm no longer welcome because I chose to use a local a company that's 10 minutes from my home instead of Hackney for PM. What really upsets me is Hackney doesn't have the decency to call to see what my issue really was. I never told Hackney about the install problem because after several messages left with no response I finally decided to email and this was their response. read more

We have been clients of Hackney Heating and Cooling for YEARS. We found them through a pretty particular contractor/friend when we needed to completely overhaul our AC system (so that our house would actually get cool upstairs). Hackney found an elegant solution and didn't oversell me on things I didn't need. It was a big job and the team was always on time, friendly and cleaned up when they left. These days we call them for maintenance, and for any rare issues we may have. They are always incredibly responsive, organized and clear. Professional and YES, on time, with very reasonable arrival windows...so important...no waiting around all day! They taught me how to change the system's filter, and the air return filters...which I had no idea I even needed to do, and the system runs so much better from cooling to heating all year round. I can't say enough good things about Hackney. read more

Expert installation of our HVAC system Excellent very professional technicians. I would not hesitate to call on them again. read more

We had our HVAC unit replaced by Hackney a few years ago, and they have been back for service several times (not because anything was wrong, just maintenance). I cannot say enough good things about this family-owned business. They are responsive, extremely pleasant to deal with, and thoroughly professional. I have asthma, and when we needed a part replaced at a time when there were several fires burning nearby and air quality was poor, Drew Hackney moved mountains to find the part and get it installed within a day because he knew how important it was for my health to have our HVAC running. I recommend Hackney highly! read more

27 year old furnace finally gave out. Called Hackney and a few others for a quote to replace it. Drew came out the next day for Hackney, checked things out, got us a quote within an hour, and installed it the next morning. Installers were excellent in both quality of work and professionalism. read more

We had a very unique problem in the condo we purchased. The air conditioning fan would go off on it's own in the middle of the night and other various times. We did the obvious, even removed the thermostat and it still happened. We had 3 different air conditioning companies out to fix it and none of them could figure the problem out. Our last ditch effort was to call Hackney Heating & Cooling. If that didn't work we were just ready to give up and live with it. They were very professional and friendly from the first phone encounter to the repairman's punctuality. They did it! They fixed the problem no other company could. They would not give up till they got it right. Their price was very reasonable. They are a pleasure doing business with. We will stick with them for any heating or cooling needs in the future as will our family and friends. read more

This company is great! They installed two high quality units in my house. Now, I just love having central air conditioning and heating especially since I had the very expensive radiant heat in the ceiling before. I love the Nest thermostats they use too because I can control the units from my phone. Also, the service is great. They come out every six months to check my units and change filters. Everyone is very professional and courteous and very responsive to any calls. You can't go wrong with them. They are the best!!! read more

Always excellent service! Drew Hackney and his entire team of technicians and front office team are consistently spectacular. Drew installed my HVAC system brilliantly and the maintenance upkeep has been stellar. I could not be happier that I found Drew, and his company. This is what quality workmanship is all about. I can't recommend this company more highly if you're in need of heating or cooling installation or repair. read more

I've used Hackney for several years, first to install an all new HVAC system in my home in Encino, CA, and since then for seasonal maintenance of the system. More recently, I relocated to West Hollywood and had them come by to inspect and check the system, as well as to diagnose any issues. They always show up quickly and on time, do a great job and explain everything they needed to complete the job upfront. It's great to know that Hackney can always be relied on for quality service at a fair price. read more

I cannot recommend Hackney more highly. We needed a new heating/cooling unit on our roof and Drew and team were spectacular. Their prices, technical knowledge, communication, promptness, and care in our home & out were truly exemplary and deserving of 6 stars. What more could use ask for than a team that gives you options at different fair price points, displays the highest professionalism, is super punctual, and is wonderful to work with? I recommend Hackney without any reservations. read more

I can't say enough good things about Hackney. They installed our air conditioning and a new furnace in our 70 year old home about 5 years ago. They were efficient, professional and reliable. Since then we have had them service our system every year. This last weekend our furnace stopped working. I sent a message on a Sunday and at 7:00 am on Monday they called to,say they would be at the house at 8:00 am. They were! It was a pressure switch and they had fixed it in 10 minutes. They are wonderful. They keep accurate records of the installation, all their technicians are licensed professionals and I am so pleased we went with Hackney. read more

We had Hackney install new heating and later AC, and annual service thereafter. Always reliable expert work; remind us when service is due; show up for appointments with prior ETA by phone. Know their stuff and are thorough with installation and maintenance. Highly recommend them and have referred our neighbors who are also very pleased. read more

Our furnace went out and we called a company to come look at it. They said the furnace was fried and we needed a new one for $5k. Luckily, someone recommended Hackney. Their technician came out quickly and diagnosed the problem - blown transformer. They we're able to fix it on the spot and saved me $4,700. Hackney is honest and reliable. I absolutely recommend them for all your HVAC needs. read more

Drew did an excellent job installing central air conditioning, furnace, and ducting in our 72 year old home which previously had none of it. He was great at answering my questions as we made our decisions and the installation was very efficient (done in 3 days) and clean considering the amount of work that needed to be done with ducting, electrical, attic installation, etc. I would recommend Hackney to anyone replacing an HVAC system or retrofitting an older home with one for the first time. read more

We finally decided to get central ac and heating for our home after years of sweltering summertime heat and freezing winters. Being the type that likes to do my homework, I researched extensively before I consulted with any contractors for bids. Ultimately, after gathering as much info as I could, I contacted five different companies to come out and evaluate my needs and give me their best proposals. It was important that we interviewed as many contractors as possible to ensure we got the best options, pricing & felt absolutely comfortable with the company we chose. Drew, the company owner came out and was extremely professional and knowledgeable. After meeting with a few other companies, I could tell Drew knew exactly what he was talking about and wasn't trying to upsell me on anything I really didn't want or need. He got straight to it and went through both my attics and did a perimeter check. He also mentioned that he was a licensed realtor and ran the specs of my house to understand more about what he was dealing with in terms of sizing, age and layout. After his evaluation we had a quick pow wow where he broke down what he thought would be the best and most efficient way to add central ac and heating. We did a walk through of my house and he showed me exactly where everything would go and how the system would function. After all proposals were submitted and closely analyzed, it actually was an easy decision for us to make. I'm not knocking any of the other companies that came out as they all did an excellent job in selling us on their service and products. But after meeting with Drew, we just kind of knew he was our guy. Drew offered us the best package as he was the most knowledgeable, personable and gave us the best pricing options. We scheduled an installation appointment the following week and couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Drew's team was extremely professional and very respectful of our property. They showed up at exactly 8am every morning and the first thing they did was lay out tarps to cover all our floors before doing any work. At the end of each day, they cleaned and vacuumed all the dust and debris lying around. The only negative I had is when one of the installers were carrying in some of the equipment and accidentally bumped into my front gate and dislodged the hinge. I mentioned this to Drew during our final walk through and he assured me he would send one of his guys over to take care of it. Top notch in service and quality. We're definitely going to be more comfortable now during the hot summers and cold winters thanks to Hackney! read more

This guy is the real deal, very professional and easy to deal with. He follows directions, shows up on time and his prices are competitive. Finding HVAC guys is a crap shoot, half these guys are drunk at 9am. I was very pleased with my overall experience. Ask for Drew, he handled my quote and installation. David read more

I highly recommend Drew. He answered all my questions over the phone and even gave me a firm quote over the phone something most other companies wouldn't do. He then came by and verified the quote was accurate and correct. Drew and his crew arrived on time and completed the project as agreed and to my complete satisfaction. This by far was the best experience I have had to date with a contractor. read more

Made an appointment for a simple check-up, air filter replacement. First day and time went by with no tech and no call. I rang late afternoon, they apologized and said they would call the next morning to arrange a time. Next morning came and went, I received a call at noon telling me the tech was running behind schedule and would not make the 1-3pm window (a window that had actually never been communicated to me). They rescheduled for 3:30-4:30. At 3pm they called and said tech was not going to make it and could I reschedule for next week. Needless to say, we didnt. Plus, the customer service team that answers is the phones are extremely nice & professional. Disappointing because we had them out last yr and thought they were great. read more

Another reviewer said this guy is the "real deal" He very well MIGHT be... BUT he failed to show up TWICE in a row when I scheduled appointments with him!!! I only gave him one star, because I can't give him zero. Sorry, Drew but if you cannot show up or even call to advise that you are running late or asking to reschedule... TWICE in a row - you don't deserve to be in ANY service business. I left work early to meet Drew for a 4:30 appointment on Friday. By 5:30 he had not arrived, so I called and he informed me that due to his previous location and traffic conditions, he was still hours away. He apologized profusely and offered to come out for a 3pm appointment the following day - Saturday. He FAILED to show for that appointment too. I left a voice mail at 4pm on Friday asking him to call back and advise. He NEVER called back! read more

Con artist! These guys are super expensive. And don't know what they are doing. My broken AC unit worked better before they came. I spent $695 and my AC is broken. No warranty. They want another fee to come back out and check it. They have No idea what they are doing. read more

I've read all the reviews of Hackney and see that they are mixed but, my experiences were only good. My central air/heating unit died on the hottest day of the summer and Drew was there within a day of my calling. The company was busy as could be but, he managed to get the equipment, the crane to lift the outside unit over the house and the crew to do the installation over to my house within a few days. He did what he said he would do and at the price quoted. It's a tough business when the temp is 110+ outside and fielding all of the phone calls, service calls and installations during SoCal heat waves can't be easy. In spite of those challenges, Hackney did a fine job and, a couple of months on, everything is working just fine. I have every confidence that Drew and Hackney will be there when and if I need them to provide service in the future. read more

I had a great experience with Hackney, first, a few years ago when the owner repaired a 60 + year old floor furnace (which another contractor said could not be repaired, and tried to upsell me a new heating system); and second, when installing a central air and heating system in my home. All the people working for Hackney are nice, competent and keep the work area clean. This contractor is honest, very professional, well organized and gets the work done when you were told it would be done. A new heat wave is just beginning, and it's really nice in here! read more

I've had our system going on it's second year. It works great however, my issue is their customer service, once the system is in, they have none. I called last year before the year was up to change the filter and just check the system, 2 weeks out to get the appointment, just called today, the service fee went up and it's over a week to get another appointment, best to look elsewhere. read more

My wife and I decided to be proactive and replace our furnace and air conditioning before the start of the summer. I was truly impressed with the detailed proposal, and the professionalism that was given to our project by Hackney's. The crew was on time, clean and respectful of our home. Made an appointment with Hackney to install new heating and A/C. No one showed up and then when I called them they said my apt time was rescheduled for a different time. No call ahead and I had people wasting their time waiting at my house. They were very unprofessional even with the fact that I was spending near 10k for a new system. Beware! read more

Richard H. review was spot on, should headed this before I wasted my time. Beware - Hackney are flaking and disrespectful. I called to schedule an appointment, had to wait over 2 weeks, but figured OK as its summer and they had been recommended by a contractor I work with. Day of the first appointment get a call in the morning saying they can't make it and to call back to reschedule. I can accept that, call back and set up appointment for a few days later between 11-1pm. At 12 get a voice mail from Drew saying he is on the way, should be there by 12:30, no need to call back unless there is a problem. I get busy with work and realize hours later they guy never showed up, so I call him back. He acts real confused and says he's driving and will call me right back. Never hear back, I call back an hour later and leave a voice mail. Never hear back, try again the next day, he doesn't pick up, but when I call the office they get a hold of him and he straight out lies and says I was suppose to call him back to confirm - I even went back and listened to his message to make sure I hear right, it clearly said only call if there is a problem. Very bad customer service, would not trust them to do the work I need. It's a shame as I am an architect and all was looking for good subs, but I would look elsewhere. read more

i had a fantastic experience with Hackney Heating & Cooling. They were able to get a technician, Drew, here within 30 minutes on the coldest day of the year in Santa Monica to fix my broken thermostat.
