We didn't know it when we booked it, Hacienda Tamirindo is on the list of 1000 places to visit before you die. We agree. The staff is exceedingly helpful and caring. The property itself overlooks the Caribbean. As the name implies, it's in a hacienda, but we were not bothered by other guests. Even though our room was off the library, sitting room and bar. The room was spacious with plenty of room for the three of us. We were in #7- the when pigs fly room. Besides being well appointed, it opened right out to the grounds. It was an easy walk to the pool. The pool was sparkling, well maintained and relaxing. It's also open 24 hours, so you can lay out on a float and see the thousands of stars above. Like much of Veiques, horses were abundant and would come right up to the property. Breakfast was included on our package. It was a nice ala crate menu and was tasty. Access to the Caribbean is the only downside. There is no easy way to get to the beach. Overall a great stay.

Enjoyed lovely mornings and relaxing nights at Hacienda Tamarindo! We were greeted with vivid sunrises and a perfect view of the ocean and little islands from our balcony, followed by simple but delicious breakfasts with fresh fruit and juice every day. The honor system for the bar and sport rental shop worked out great. We were able to get fresh new towels and chairs for the beach for free, and rented out snorkel sets. One night, we 'signed out' a few beers and enjoyed them at the pool under the stars. I highly recommend Hacienda Tamarindo for a couple's stay in Vieques!

A charming inn overlooking the ocean and Esperanza harbor, Hacienda Tamarindo is a true gem. It has an old-world vibe without feeling tired, and its longtime owners Linda and Burr, who often join the hearty, made-to-order breakfast on the patio, provide a personal touch that adds to its intimacy. (They've also got good tips on restaurants and things to do.) Our second-floor room was bright and breezy, with a view of the water. The bed and linens were super comfortable. The shower was slightly dated, but water power was good and there was plenty of hot water, which is ultimately all I care about after a day at the beach. Though we didn't use it, the pool area and hammock in the side year looked like a lovely place to relax. Since we're more beach goers, we were quite appreciative of the honor beach "store" - more like a pantry of beach supplies - where you can rent beach chairs, umbrellas and snorkel gear and purchase suntan lotion. Our favorite amenity, though, was the full honor bar, where we'd make evening cocktails to take to the balcony while we watched the sun set. We always rent a car because we like to go to various beaches across the island, but Hacienda Tamarindo is close enough to Esperanza that you could walk or take a taxi in for dinner, and it's also walking distance from Black Sand Beach. Esperanza is back to its lively self and has a range of restaurants from pubs to upscale. Before Hurricane Maria, we came to Vieques every year and stayed at the W. With the W still closed, we hadn't been back but finally decided we didn't want to wait and booked 4 nights at Hacienda Tamarindo in March. I am happy to say that even if the W reopens, we are converts to Hacienda Tamarindo - we booked for next year when we checked out!

Hacienda Tamarindo is a cute, slightly remote/rustic place to stay on Vieques island. Pros: - amazing/responsive staff (A/C in the room broke after hours and we were re-roomed in a matter of minutes) - comfortable accom - coolers for free to take to the beach! - close to Esperanza (~a mile) - any beach gear you could want available for rent Cons: - have to take a taxi to Esperanza in the evening for safety - wifi didn't work in the rooms - honor bar is overpriced for being self-serve (granted you can just buy your own and bring it in) - no direct beach access, although the W at $500+/night seems to be the only hotel with this Overall, cute place. Would stay again!

Have been here several times and I cannot recommend it enough. This is a lovely B&B that is comfortable and beautiful. The cafeteria is decorated in a classic style. I'll post pictures so you can see what I mean. The lobby was built around a tree, which contributes to the charm. The room I stayed in was comfortable and spacious. The only negative was the shower looked a bit dirty last time I went there... but I don't care much about that, I'm judging the place overall. I think they only have showers in the rooms, no bathtubs, but you can ask. Go to Vieques!

We stayed at Hacienda Tamarindo on our honeymoon and it was amazing! The location was perfect, just up the road from Esperanza and our room was beautiful, with clear views of the water. The service was amazing as were the amenities - we used the pool and hammocks multiple times during our four day trip. We also utilized both the honor bar and the beach equipment and enjoyed the delicious breakfast every morning on the patio. And on our last full day there we woke up to the charming sight of a herd of horses drinking from the fountain at the front of the hotel. Vieques is beautiful and well worth a visit, and if you go, definitely stay at Hacienda Tamarindo!

My trip to PR is one of my favourites anywhere, and a large part of that is due to Hacienda Tamarindo. This place just makes you feel good. There is a bar downstairs that goes by the honour system. I paid for every single beer that I drank, but I like the fact that they trust you. They give you a cooler for your drinks during the day, which you can take to the beach... that is very thoughtful of them. The view is amazing. Our room had a tiny balcony that opens up to the ocean. It really is an amazing place. It is a quiet place however, so if you're looking to party, then maybe choose somewhere else. Or don't even go to Vieques in the first place. I recommend this place to couples. I had an amazing time. Derek

My husband and I visited for our anniversary and fell in love with the hotel. The owners and staff were very nice and super helpful. They helped us make arrangements for travel off the island and gave us great suggestions on places to visit. The room was exactly as described and we didn't want to leave. The shower was great and the king bed was super comfy, one of the best nights sleep ever. We would have loved to stay longer and can't wait to plan our return visit.

Such a beautiful place approx a mile from Esperanza. They were so helpful, they have a webpage…read morewhich has many links on their FAQs - this so helped us. But regardless they offered to help arrange a taxi from the airport which was so nice, and then watched over our luggage while we explored the island until checkin (4pm). I have to highlight, when they say "unplugged" it means it - there is no tv in the room, wifi/cell is spotty and temperamental outlets, apparently common to the island, little nuances we hadn't expected, but dealt with. Our king room with lanai ocean views was exactly that! Once we got used to being "unplugged" we throughly enjoyed our stay. The brunch and dinner restaurant are very convenient. The bar is highly recommended/known by locals, as is the resort. A fabulous pool and beach access - the facility provided beach towels and chairs you can carry to the beach. After a long day exploring we'd either shut the curtains and cool off or sit on the lanai enjoying the views, warm breeze and watching the wild horses. The property is just absolutely beautiful and the staff so very nice.

The pool is accessible 24/7 which great too as most hotels close the pools at 10 pm. I also love the fact that there aren't any children taking over the pool as it's an adult only hotel. The guest services were polite and helpful. Couple downsides was we're having issues with the WiFi. And I also didn't like that there was no bathroom door. Unfortunately when we went there was a ton of seaweed on the black sand beach so it didn't look to nice but again that's not something they can control. But other than that. The food is good the bar service is nice but they do close at 9. And everything else about the experience was great!

What can I say about this place…read more.. We've waited for 3 months to eat here. Once we settled down in our new place we decided it was time! We had the shrimp "all you can eat" as our main course, and conk fritters, and mozzarella sticks as appetizers. We also had a few cocktails. The appetizers were great, and the rum punch was by far the best, and that's where it went from having to having . While I was enjoying the shrimp, I bit into a plastic bag, I didn't make a big deal out of it. I just ordered another. And then I chomped down on another pice of plastic. The waitress was kind enough to take my meal of the bill. But never apologized, she just laughed it off. She was great, we did have to ask for more water a few times. I would recommend this place to travelers, it's a great location, and pretty good drinks.. And the VIEW IS EPIC!! A little dark but other then the plastic... Everyone else's food was spectacular!!

We just returned from Vieques and are eagerly planning our next trip there! We stayed with Joe and Mimi and it was HEAVEN. From my first email exchange (after EXTENSIVE lodging research) I knew we had found our place to stay. When we arrived at their Casita, I hugged Mimi - she already felt like an old friend. Their place is ADORABLE, clean - perfect and has EVERYTHING you could possibly need during your stay from beach gear (chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc.), aloe vera, bug spray, cozy towels, a fridge, coffeemaker, maps, great books to read, even yahtzee and scrabble. Seriously, you can pack light because they make everything SO comfortable and enjoyable. Great garden area and patio which you are welcome to use and enjoy... They are LOVELY people - really do feel like new friends. Joe and my boyfriend Brian bonded over beer and music while Mimi and I talked about everything else... We hung out with them on the Malecon and back at the casita - they were friendly and available but also let us enjoy ourselves - it was the perfect balance. Finally, on our last day, I had arranged for a publico to take us to the ferry but the driver never showed but Joe and Mimi had waited to make sure we got off okay so they saved the day and Joe took us to the ferry dock so we didn't miss our boat! I can't agree with the other reviewer more on the fact that it is quite possibly the awesome-est place to stay ever...and very difficult to describe the overwhelming amount of charm. time kinda stops (which is really nice if you are on vacation.) if you enjoy languid porch swings, fluffy clouds, beautiful views, sunkissed cheeks, peaceful hammocks, rum drinks, floating in water, watching lizards, carefree afternoons, sweet tropical fruits, beach glass, cat-naps + quiet-time this is the place for you! we didn't have to share a bathroom, because we rented the cabanita. it has it's own bathroom - a private outdoor shower. (oh bliss!) a tiny kitchenette...with fridge and two burner stove + it's own front porch. La Finca has many options for different types of travelers. The community house has shared bathrooms and kitchen and some little bed rooms like a hostel. It has a breezy open indoor/outdoor quality and plenty of perfect spots for a nap. There are larger more "luxury" cabins also that are secluded and less communal throughout the property... OR you and 49 of your closest friends could rent the entire place for a week! this option would be great for a big party, retreat, family re-union, wedding, yoga intensive, etc. -the salt water pool is amazing! it feels healing for your skin and doesn't stink like chlorine! but none of it is what you might be used to. the linens and towels don't match, there are no tvs, internets, newspapers, telephones, etc. no one wears shoes that much. they might rent you a convertible car without a top (and it might rain that day.) people are so completely laid back that there isn't even glass in any the windows! i felt really lucky to have landed in such a beautiful, down to earth place. The Inn Keepers are super kind and helpful and will make you feel right at home. Go when it isn't tourist season (late spring+summer) and you will find yourself totally alone on a crystal clear blue beach swimming with tropical fish for hours at a time. We felt so free, we got naked! La Finca and all of the island is really pretty rural -you'll have to be able to entertain yourself. bring books, instruments, crafts, bikes, rafts and bug spray! all we did the entire time we were there was: read, swim, drink, eat, drive around beach hopping and sleep. a real relaxing vacation!!! my only beware: the non-puerto rican transplants that have spent entirely too much time in the sun and burnt some of their brains off can talk/get/act/look really wacky. BUT: If you have never felt a trade wind, seen the stars without light pollution, taken a dip with glowing phytoplankton, photographed wild ponies or eaten a fresh tamarindo....you really have no idea what you are missing.

I ended up choosing this location because it was a 3 bedroom unit with a kitchen. We were not there long enough to use the kitchen, just the fridge. The rooms were dated and more like a cabin feel. It's a house converted to hotel. There was hot water, air conditioning, and a fridge. That's all you need in Vieques. It's so beautiful in this island that even camping out would be a great experience, but probably not if you have kids. Saw a few young couple do it and I was kind of jealous. It's very close to El Malicon. Great for an evening stroll. There's a nearby watering hole next door that gets a little wild on the weekends. By law it ends at 10pm and 11pm on Sundays, so not bad if the kids are trying to sleep. The price was kind of high, but everything else was booked. When you call the hotel, they don't really budge on changes to the reservation. Use Hotels.com or the like. They are more flexible with them. They have a pool, but I never used it. Who needs a pool when you have one of the most beautiful beaches in the world nearby. Rent a car for this adventure so you can drive to local beaches. The hotel lets you take umbrellas, lawn chairs, and coolers for your beach day. Nice accommodation for the guests. The person that checks you in is a cool elderly man, but with an attitude. Be cool and he'll be cool. He started by talking at me and in the end we were super cool. Don't take his attitude to heart. I'm sure he gets a lot of families with attitudes and that's just his armor to it.
