Pain at the Gas…read more Despite what a lot of non-believers might think, Costco gas is fantastic, and I've never had an issue with it. In fact, my 240k-mile Subaru has been run almost exclusively on Costco gas thanks to the proximity of my work to a Costco Gas Station. Their gas is rated Top Tier™, and that isn't a meaningless proclamation, as TT means a higher quality of gas. They intentionally run it at 20-30¢/gal cheaper than the market average because they use it as a loss leader. * One of the few Costco gas locations that carries diesel. * 5% cash back on the Costco Citi card is kind of hot, especially considering our gas prices as of late. The Meh: * No amenities here like paper towels and window washing equipment. Hell, you're lucky they even have garbage cans! * Members Only. But I mean honestly, does anyone in The Bay *not* have a Costco membership??? The Ugly: * The Santa Cruz station is priced 50¢/gal higher than San José gas stations. I guess that's the schlepping the petrol down the hill tax. Conclusion: Inexpensive, high-quality gas. Not much more one can ask for.

As this is a late review, I just left the Carson City, NV Costco and they have not started marking down their stuff yet. But you already know that because you are following :) Decent selection of micro brews, but not really local, so I skipped. Atmosphere - Overall consistent. Nothing too different that stood out. They have most, if not all the departments - Tire, food court, gas station, pharmacy, optical, hearing aids, etc. I should have checked their gas prices... Service - Self service. Price - Reasonable, inexpensive. But I always end up buying stuff I do NOT need..... So for me it was a little wasteful. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location since 1994. Congrats on all your success since 1976, since Price Club. Now you are the 5th largest retailer in the world and #10 on the Fortune 500. 804 warehouses worldwide, with 558 in the US. 1980 IPO. 1993 Price Club and Costco merger. 1997 Rebrand all locations to Costco. 2020 105.5 million members.

Like at most gas stations these days, there's a ten-cent discount per gallon when you pay with cash. The cashier was very friendly and had my change waiting for me before I had even walked back inside. The gas pumps have seen better days and can use a power-washing. It's annoyingly complicated to get back onto Mission Street westbound. It's possible (and legal) to turn left onto Mission Street from the station, but cars are usually backed up at the Walnut Avenue light. It's also possible (and legal) to turn right onto Walnut Avenue from the station, but if the station is crowded, you might not be able to get back to that side of the pumps, depending on which side of your car you fueled up from. In short, there's not too much room to maneuver, and the neighborhood itself has really confusing streets. If you're planning it beforehand, you're probably better off coming to the station when you're headed east on Mission and want to continue heading east after you fill up. When I came, I was headed west and wanted to continue west.

When I am traveling, my preference is always to stop at a gas station that offers something more than pumping and go. I prefer having a convenience store attached to the gas station in case I'm looking for something to drink, some gum or perhaps even a quick snack. Cleanliness is always a huge plus. This particular Valero's has a convenience store, and unhappy people that work there. We stopped to get gas, and walked inside to pay and grab a quick drink. The cashier was extremely unpleasant, and it was very clear not only was unhappy to be there, but he was clearly inconvenienced by us making a purchase. After we paid, we went out to pump the gas and the pump was not even ready for us to use. We had to walk back inside, and ask for him to turn the pump on. Literally standing there waiting for what felt like eternity, but was probably about two minutes or so until he decided to turn the pump on. No one else was there, so it should not of been an issue. The station itself is pretty basic, and snacks were at a minimum. The station was also fairly clean, as far as gas stations go. My issue at the station, was the attitude that the attendant had, and why it seems to go unnoticed. Clearly, he has worked there for a while and it doesn't seem to be an issue for management. As expensive as gasoline is, I certainly plan on going somewhere else, rather than spending my money in a place where it doesn't seem to be welcomed

Came in to do a smog check. They charge $60 dollars for smog which is not cheap at all. My car…read morefailed due to the fact that I was doing some work to car a few days ago and forgot I disconnected the battery; therefore, I got a failed test. The manager still charged me a full price. I was fine with paying it, hoping a retest would be free of charge, but they wanted additional $30 dollars for a retest. I was trying to tell him that most smog stations do the retest free of charge as courtesy. He could have at least just offered to pay additional $8.25 for the smog certificate for the retest, but he still insisted on additional $30. He just didn't care about what I was trying to tell him. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE! When I started arguing with him about their customer service, the manager started yelling at me right away. So expect yelling if you have any issues with them! I rather pay somewhere else again rather than come back here again!
