And the award for the weakest margaritas goes to... Hacienda Fuentes! I'm pretty sure there was close to zero tequila in these. Their margarita options on the menu were also, simply, Lemon or Strawberry. LEMON?! There were zero descriptions for ingredients, just 'Small, Medium, Large,' with no pricing info either. When we ordered, I clarified multiple times that this would be a normal LIME margarita, and he said yes. And it was, so I have no idea what the lemon option is or if that's a complete typo on the menu. Anyway, moving on. The margaritas may have been a one star experience but the food saved them here and was actually really delicious! I had the Hacienda Wrap and was quite impressed. It was pretty large but man was it tasty! We also had an order of queso which was yummy as well. With the food and service being a good experience, I went with 4 stars but those margs could use some serious work, y'all. read more

This establishment is no longer family owned per the website. My mom and I ordered yesterday and the food was less than par. Spoke to the manager and he was not very accommodating. The food was so so. On the way in is a sign warning that you will be charged for any additional chips and salsa beyond the first one. I ordered the burrito grande meal. My waiter seemed a bit rushed which I didn't understand because the place was only moderately busy. I was told by my waiter that my meal came with guacamole but there was none when I got my plate. When I ate my meal I bit into a piece of gristle at one point which was not too pleasant. The burrito was topped with an over salty queso. The sour cream consisted of a light drizzle over some shredded lettuce. There was no Spanish rice nor beans which I consider a must have to complete a Mexican meal plate. I'm sorry but Juan needs a lot of training He kept on telling yes or no you ready and we weren't ready to order and kept shaking his head. Service was prompt and the vegetarian fajitas were delicious. I especially liked their salsa - nice flavor. I enjoyed my dinner thoroughly and would come back. I ordered this from Grubhub to my hotel for supper, so I can't speak to the service, but I will speak to the food. I ordered the Fajitas Monterrey and it came with salsa and chips. The chips were okay but tasted a little greasy (kind of like it had absorbed a lot of the cooking grease) and the salsa was decent. The Fajitas were very good. This used to be a great place to eat. Service is quick and friendly always. No doubt about that. But the quality of food...has significantly changed in the last couple years. From their salsa (which tastes like a jar of salsa) to their entrees. I feel they cut corners to penny pinch which ultimately has affected the quality and I've noticed. Hacienda never disappoints. Best Mexican food in the area HANDS DOWN. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Food is always fresh and delicious. We went yesterday to enjoy their new Margarita Flights. But was disappointed to discover that they are only available after 5. It was only 330. Our waiter being always attentive noticed the sadness on my face and in my voice. He had a solution. "Would you like one of our special RAINBOW Margaritas?" I was like huh that sounds intriguing! And boy was it something special. My closest description is a tequila version of a freak shake. It came in a huge uniquely shaped bottle. It has blue sugar around the rim and has a piece of red licorice, a piece of sour fruit tape, a little skull man with sour gummies as as arms and legs and a cherry body. The rim also had a variety of citrus. The margarita itself was a barrage of colorful fruit flavored frozen tequila! It was amazing, huge and strong! What an awesome alternative to the flight. The best tacos al pastor, hands down. Also great service, top to bottom.

Brightly lit location that draws your attention. Dining area is very clean, colorful and vibrant. Service is speedy, too fast actually. Forty five seconds to decide on drink order, then only 3 minutes to peruse a six page menu. After sending waiter away, finally settled in and ordered. Ordered Enchilada platter (1 shredded chicken, 1 shredded beef, 1 bean, 1 cheese, and 1 ground beef). and Chimichanga platter (1 beef tips and 1 shredded chicken). While waiting for entrees we were served complimentary chips and salsa. Tortilla chips were tasty and were served warm, but salsa was nondescript and boring. Entrees arrived lickety split and were piping hot. Chimichanga's were fresh out of fryer and very tasty. Shredded beef and chicken Enchiladas were very tasty also but the remaining 3 were a bore. All were covered in a standard red Enchilada sauce, little cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. Would have been better with a partial covering of Red and Green sauces, and cheese. Restaurant is nice for the price and if staff would slow down the pace a little I would increase the rating and probably would have hung around for another beverage. read more

The interior decor was very festive, and the seats and tables had creative designs. Complimentary chips and tasty salsa were provided. Queso was amazing. The chicken in Jaime's Carne Asada was flavorful but the tender beef was a bit fatty. Victor's Fajitas were okay and so were the hard shell tacos. Our issue came with the Molcajete for 2. The dish itself was tasty flavor-wise but the steak was very fatty and chewy. The entree was more soupy than grilled. We received tortillas with it so it just seemed like an odd combination. As my brother bit into one of the meats, he bit into a piece of stone. The dish it came out in was a hot volcanic stone bowl. Although it looked nice aesthetically, if it was decomposing they need to change how they serve it or at the very least get rid of that bowl. I brought this issue to the attention of our server who basically shrugged it off and thought it was gravel. This was even more alarming to us because how did gravel get into our entree? Omar, our server, later admitted it came from the bowl and left us with that. He was not apologetic nor did he acknowledge that anything was wrong. In fact, he did not return to our table for drink refills and we finally just said we wanted our check. I thought he was going to take away the dish or offer to make us a new one. But nothing happened. When the check finally arrived, I noticed that nothing was comped on our receipt nor was there any discount. Since we never received any apology, I figured they forgot because it was a busy night. I discreetly brought it to the attention of the cashier who asked me what I wanted to do about it. I said an apology would have been nice or at the very minimum a discount. He gave me a $3 discount. A $3 discount for a rock in our meal that could have cracked our teeth. I was flabbergasted because they were basically saying we don't care. I told them a $3 discount is ridiculous. At least do a 10% discount or do not charge me for the dish. That's when Omar returned. Omar looked at me crazily and said, "You had a rock in your bowl. It happens. It comes from the bowl." I said, "If rocks are falling out of your bowl, throw it away. Otherwise, substitute the dish with a plastic bowl that won't do that. This will prevent it from happening again." He replied, "A rock in the bowl is normal. Sometimes, you might have it. Sometimes, you won't. It's a chance you take with this dish." I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. I replied, "If a glass or plate is broken or chipped and I get glass in my food or drink, you don't keep using the same plate or cup. You throw it out." Then, he started yelling at me to stop yelling. I told him I was not yelling, and that I just thought it was crazy that you wouldn't throw out the dish after what just happened. He said that all Mexican restaurants use it so it's not a problem. I warned him that this issue could have been more serious and then the health department would've came in. Then, he started yelling again for me to stop yelling even though he was the only one yelling. He gave me a discount then and said sorry. I paid for my meal and asked if he wanted me to sign my receipt. He said no and said, "Do me a favor. Don't come back here again." That's when I got really upset because how do you have the audacity to treat a customer that you wronged as if they were the bad guy?I told him that I wasn't planning on coming back ever because I had a rock in my food. I returned to my table and told my family to gather their things so we could leave. My brother asked what was wrong and I said our server got mad because I told him about the rock in our bowl. The server yelled loudly at me, "Shut up. I gave you a discount." As we walked out, he yelled toward us, "And don't come back!" I also heard a clueless customer in line whispering, "I deal with customers like that all day." And that's when I had it. It's one thing to accidentally give me a rock in my food. It's another thing to be unapologetic and yell at me crazily. But it's the final straw when you belittle the victim and make me out to be some sort of complainant who's trying to mooch off your business. I opened the door back up and yelled, "Just so you know, I had a rock in my food!" The guy yelled, "Get the hell out of here!" He charged toward the door and runs up to me in a combative manner with two of his coworkers. He said, "You don't know who the hell you're messing with!" My brother started recording him and told him to leave me alone while my aunt wanted to call the police. I told them we just needed to leave but that they can't treat customers this way. If they had just apologized and acknowledged that they would get rid of that bowl instead of trying to blame the whole incident on me, I would never have even wanted a discount. But they chose to be rude, shame me in front of other customers, and was even threatening toward me. I will never return to this establishment and I do not recommend it. read more

Last evening we were so excited to finally got to a dine in Mx Restaurant. I had a Shrimp Chimichanga and their were 3 pieces of shrimp in it and they were just like chewing a rubber band. Marc, I and the kids ate here for dinner tonight. The chips n Salsa was pretty good and catered on making sure we had enough. The food was just ok. Nothing special. I ordered a #3 combo which was taco, enchilada and chili relleno. Not sure about you but I thought a chili relleno is dipped in egg batter with cheese inside and then cooked. Theirs was a cut open and a slivered (small 1/2 piece) chili relleno on top of ground beef with cheese on top of that. It wasn't horrible but find this fake mexican food, not authentic by any means, but what do you expect in middle of no where Illinois. Would I recommend. NO. There were no woman that worked there and the bus boys looked all of 12 years old with the waiters or Management cussing behind their backs like some of us dont understand Spanish. He won't go anywhere else, and I have to agree with him. Everything I have eaten from there has been a masterpiece. I'm sure COVID may slow you down from going to any restaurant now. I believe they are taking people indoors which is good and bad.The feel of the place is just like your transported to Mexico, which I've been to a couple of times. Victor came by my table when he noticed that I'd arrived on my fully loaded bike to ask about it. When he learned that I'm on a long trip, he spent like 10 minutes asking me all about my experience. And he wished me well and offered me God's blessings, which I accepted and offered some blessings of my own. He recommended their veggie quesadilla and made sure the kitchen made it generously. It was full of fresh, crisp, well-grilled, and well-seasoned peppers, onions, zucchini, and spinach. The rice and beans were well-prepared and served, too. Besides the food, and the good energy, they keep the place very clean and comfortable. He came back by and told me a little about how he came to open Hacienda Fuentes.
