We came to celebrate my daughter's 21st Birthday in Hilo. We decided that to commemorate this event, me, my daughter an my mother would get tattooed. We came to Habitat Tattoo in Pahoa. A female owned, tattoo shop that has been here for more than 20 years. We communicated our ideas to Nancy via text message and agreed on a date and time. My mom adjusted her original request and decided on a plumeria anklet tattoo. She is elderly and has super delicate skin. She took such care with my mother and created such a delicate and beautiful piece of art. Gave her what she has wanted for 30 years. My daughter got a coconut monkey tattoo. "The boss lady", Nancy, loved the idea and created the perfect design and placement of the tattoo. My friend came to visit Big Island, so I figured I would book us an appointment at Habitat. I have had my eye on this shop for a while, but hadn't decided on a tattoo design. This shop is all-female owned and operated, which I love, and was my main reason for choosing it. I was able to book via text message, and since I provided a detailed description of what we were wanting, there was no consult needed. Both artists were friendly and professional. One got us all stenciled and prepped while the other finished with a client before us. I got started first, and nearly fell asleep. My friend on the other hand, was a huge wimp, and had a hard time finishing. His artist (Nancy) was super patient and kind with him, and did everything she could to help him make it through. After he figured out how to relax, she was able to complete his tattoo without issue. Thanks for sticking it out with him, Nancy... you're a champ! What can I say? This is by far the best tattoo experience I ever had. A few weeks back I walked in and talked with the owner Nancy. I explained what I was looking for and she said no problem and we set an appointment for a few weeks for both me and my wife. On the day of the tattoo our artist was Laura. She did my wife's tattoo first and it turned out beautifully. When my turn came, she was so good I fell asleep!! She's an amazing artist and is amazing. The shops vibe was amazing. Most tattoos parlors are like walking into the middle of a Metallica concert, which is nice if you're at a Metallica concert. The music was awesome and the vibe was perfect. I called for a eyebrow microblade consultation which she accommodated, gave me several options to choose from before we scheduled an appointment. When I arrived, she was on time and prepared. She's very patient with the many questions I had. she sketched out the eyebrow form on me, checking with me to be sure she had the right shape before beginning the tattoo. Once she started, she checked in with me often to be sure that I was happy with how the shape was forming. Megan has a steady hand and her lines were very precise. As a newlywed gift, my husband and I decided to get tattoos during our honeymoon on the Big Island. I got my tattoo done by Nancy, after a referral from one of the locals in Kona. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever. This was my very first tattoo. Her staff was very friendly and helpful as I figured out the final design. Nancy was very patient with the changes and adjustments I kept making to the drawing. When it came time to sit down under the needle, she was very aware of my anxiety and did absolutely everything to alleviate my fears. The entire process took only 20 minutes. She was quick, clean and efficient. It's been about 2 weeks since I've gotten my tattoo, and it's perfect! I followed her instructions and it's healed wonderfully. No puffiness and no scarring. The tattoo looks clean and very well "drawn". As an added bonus, Nancy plays the best reggae mixes! She was very generous to us and gave us copies of her husband's mixes. I still want her mixes because I jammed to them throughout my tattoo process and my husband's 3 hour process. I also give her extra stars for being so accommodating to us. My sister, my husband and I got tattoos - no pre-drawn designs, all on a whim. My husband got a full sleeve done, and she took it on despite the work already done and the lateness of the hour. So thrilled with our experience here and we feel lucky to have met and used Nancy for my husband's tattoo. He had most of his sleeve drawn from many different places over the last ten years or so. One was a very well-known shop in San Diego. They were expensive and they drew the scales on his koi fish in the wrong direction. My husband was very discouraged and hadn't had any new work done in a long time. Nancy fixed the scales, and colored in his Koi and it looks awesome!! She takes her time and does an excellent job shading and coloring. She also did some water on the top of his arm and the colors are so vibrant. Nancy was very patient with him and helped come up with the best designs to complement the work he already had done. He is SO happy with the outcome!! She is VERY reasonable with her prices and my husband thinks she is the best tattoo artist he has ever worked with. He plans to let her finish the rest of his sleeve and maybe do some other work while we are on the island. Nancy is a really cool person. We enjoyed visiting with her and also the great reggae music she played in the shop. :) Two other guys that work with my husband are having work done by her too. Nancy Girl is the most amazing tattoo artist! I grew up on the Big Island and now live in the mainland. I wanted my first tattoo to be a tribute to my home so I got the islands on my foot. Nancy put a turtle tattoo on my shoulder. I was in a bicycle accident a couple of years ago and the scar on my shoulder was not very attractive. I have always wanted a turtle tattoo, so I stopped in to show her where I wanted it and we discussed what the turtle was to look like. I took a picture with me to give her an idea, and we discussed colors. My tattoo looks fabulous! I am 60 years old and this is my only tattoo, and my husband & kids all approve!! Week vacation in Hilo and Kona ended with a visit to Nancy at Habitat Tattoo. Wanted a set of 'tribal bat wings' across my back. This was my 4th and largest tattoo. I gave her the general idea of what I wanted, returned a few hours later to see what was drawn up. Loved it and commenced to have a 5 hour tattoo session. She took her time and let me see it at several points in the process. She also had a spray bottle with water and some pain killer in it. The tattoo covers quite a bit of skin and the spray really helped me get through it. I have had quite a few compliments on the design and quality of the line work. I just tell everyone to grab a plane ticket and go see Nancy in Hilo. Cost was about what we were expecting. She is reasonable, and for the quality of her work, definitely well worth the cost. Pretty sure next trip to Hilo will result in another trip to see Nancy. read more
