We stayed in a hotel in town while passing through on I-80 and were recommended this restaurant by hotel staff. It did not disappoint! It is somewhat of a hole-in-the-wall and could be hard to miss driving by without directions, but the food was delicious! You order at the counter from a wide selection of options on the menu and there are several tables for eating in or you can order it to go. We got chips and salsa for an appetizer and they were not the best. The chips were overly crunchy and the salsa tasted pretty bland. This was the main reason we gave less than 5 stars. They did bring out a spicy salsa and medium salsa verde in squeeze bottles, which we tried mixing into the salsa to give it more heat but it didn't mix well. lol! My son got the beef taco salad, my other son got three beef tacos (on special on Mondays!), my husband got a chicken burrito plate, and I got the shrimp fajitas. They were all generous portions and tasted great! Definitely check it out if you find yourself in Morris, IL! read more

The chicken quesadilla was ok but definitely is the worst I've had from any Mexican restaurant so are the steak tacos I mean those were actually just awful filled with salt like to be honest Taco Bell has better Mexican food than this place don't waste your money here. read more

Ordered take out. Had a "Mexican burrito", which has pork carnitas. What I got was not carnitas. It was shredded pork, and a VERY skimpy amount at that. My friend ordered a chicken enchilada lunch special. A magnifying glass was needed to find the chicken. Yes, meat is expensive. But so was our meals. Won't go back. read more

Habanero Grill - Cadillac margarita and shrimp cocktail - Mexican Near Me - Morris, Illinois

I visited this place while visiting family in Illinois. It was easy to find parking despite visiting during the lunch hour, which was great. The place itself and the bathrooms are kept very clean and I loved the decor inside. The staff are amazing - very friendly and caring. They made me feel at home and were attentive to our needs. I even saw another customer drop by and hugged most of the staff here, so you can tell they are great people who take care of their customers. Now, as for the food...everything was DELICIOUS! We were very impressed with the pretty large menu with tons of options which honestly made it difficult to choose what to order because everything sounded so good! One of the cooks recommended we try the chips with queso, which were great! I tried the huarache with carne asada and a sope with al pastor. The portions are definitely generous, so I was not able to finish everything. The food is fresh and tasty. We ended our meal with the fried ice cream and churros as dessert which were also delicious. Definitely went into a food coma after this meal, but it was well worth it. Highly recommend stopping by here for some authentic Mexican food if you're in the area or driving by! read more

I love their food. Mostly carry out but some tables. Service is order at the counter. I miss the pickled carrots they had when they first opened. read more

First time eating there. I got take out. Nachos. Absolutely delicious, fresh cilantro, red salsa, hand made guacamole. I'm autistic so the texture, the crunch of fresh veggies and the milieu of flavors are very integral to my enjoyment. Habanero delivered! The jalapeños were potent with flavor. One thing I personally love is spicy guacamole and theirs is not, but there was enough "other" spice that it wasn't really an issue. Fast service and reasonable prices. read more

Excellent burritos here. I really enjoy the mucho nacho burrito but you need a large appetite to finish it! Great friendly staff, too.

Hands down the best place for food in Morris. Exceptional Mexican dishes w large portions. The chips n salsa to go are very generously sized. We've tried most dishes and all very good. Well done! read more

This is the best Mexican place in Morris! I especially love the steak taco salad the only suggestion is to make it with Mexican rice I always buy a side of Mexican rice to go with it. read more

Been coming here for years. Always fresh food. Recommend the chimichanga with cheese sauce.

Saw on google they had $1 tacos on Monday-Tuesday so stopped by on my road trip back home. Tacos are actually $1.25 now which is fine but the pastor is still full price. A review on google said their pastors were amazing so got 4 and wish we only got 1 or 2 as they weren't that good. Kind of plain and not much flavor or good texture. Instead I would just stick it with their steaks and their chorizos. Their chorizo was ok and up to par or at least was that much better after eating the pastor. The steak was good especially for the price but they seem to put cheese in all tacos even though we said only onions and cilantro. So check your order especially if you're getting it to go. Only tried their hottest salsa supposedly a habanero but really wasn't spicy at all to me, however it may be to others in the area. It had a touch of habanero flavor but none of the spice not bad just not as good as expected. They were kind enough to put the lettuce on the side and gave us a good amount which was a plus and they get bonus points for that. read more

Awesome food! Tacos, tostadas, burrito, torta, chimichanga, etc. Love their pollo, carnita, al pastor, chorizo.. haven't had the best luck w/their carnita so i generally skip that, maybe just unlucky. The rest makes up for it. We mostly carry out here, but occasionally dine in. read more

Extremely disappointed. We ate there years ago and very much enjoyed it so when back in the area around 4 p.m. today we stopped in for dinner. Sign said seat yourself so we did. We sat there, waiting and waiting for someone to come to our table. Another couple came in sat down and they must have been regulars as the waitress immediately went to their table and chatted away. As we continued to sit and wait. Finally, me foolishly giving her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't actually SEE us I went up to her to tell her where we were sitting. WRONG! She gave me a look that said F Off. I went back to our table and another customer told my husband that you need to order from the counter. GEE THANKS pleasant waitress for not telling me that instead of the insulting dirty look. So off we went to order from the counter and there is the waitress not only bringing 2 Margaritas to the other couple but also with a pad in her hand taking their dinner order as we stood in line. So I guess it was selective as to whom the waitress serves as opposed to who stands in line to order. We thought and we should pay money to stay at a place to be treated like this? Nope. We left and had a wonderful dinner at El Jefe (the former Tobby's) on Liberty St. read more

I really like this place wish I had found it sooner. Not open on Sundays which is a bummer and there isn't a lot of seating but the food is great, staff is friendly and they serve the food quickly. Best Mexican I've had in Morris. read more

Best Mexican food in the Morris area and reasonably priced. Order at the counter, grab a table, and they'll bring the food to you when it's ready. The food was prepared quickly even during a busy Saturday lunch rush. They have margaritas and beer. Steak tacos are awesome. Chips and salsa which cost extra is also very good. read more

We went to Starve Rock for the day and on our way home did a Google search on where we should eat. I LOVE Mexican food and it is usually very difficult to ruin for me. We found Habanero's on yelp and the reviews did not seem to favorable but we gave it a shot anyway. The lady at the counter was very friendly. I ordered the steak torta. It was delicious! The mild sauce was an excellent add on to the torta. We wold definitely go back if we find ourselves in the area again! read more

If I could give this negative 5 stars, I would. I should get my money back from how horrid the food is. I'm white, and their food is garbage. I have had real pollo con mole, and it's VERY GOOD! Their mole is brown disgustingness from a jar. I know that mole is very very tough to cook, but i'd rather eat Science Diet dog food before having this place again. They don't even serve habaneros there. WHY WOULD YOU NAME YOURSELF THE HABANERO GRILL THEN?!?!? Worthless and halphazzardly put together food. They messed up the beans from the can that they get their stuff from. read more

I just lost a day of work because of this place. I bought a Mexican steak salad there yesterday and was throwing up all night, as well as other unmentionable symptoms. I started going here since my other favorite Mexican local closed, and the food, which was decent at first, has steadily been declining in quality, especially the meat. When I called to let them know, they were merely apathetic. And yes, I know it was the steak salad because I saw one of the pickled carrots come up. read more

I commend them for offering the California burrito (steak, cheese, guac, sour cream, and potatoes( which I've yet to see anywhere else. It was good, but it had toi of been the hottest burrito I've encountered as my runny nose used up 4 napkin squares just on half a one. Al pastor torta was good as well, can't really find anything bad to say overall. read more

Finally got to try the food here today. The California burrito has gotten good reviews so that's what I ordered. It was fantastic! Nice heat. I also had two Al Pastor tacos (.99 cents) which were tiny but delicious. Priced a little high for burrito, two tacos and a pop at $11 but I will be back! read more

I've been in and around Morris for quite awhile, and I've seen a few places come and go here. This place? I hope it stays, because it's great! Great food and good size portions! We randomly stopped at this great little Mexican restaurant in Morris, IL after getting gas on our way home from Michigan. We were surprised to see the large menu with lots of great items. They have a choice of spicy or mild in-house hot sauce and their guacamole was great! I got the Macho Burrito which they claim is the largest in town. Though I was able to finish the entire burrito, I was plenty full. My fiance had the fajitas and they turned out great, too! read more

I ordered the steak burrito and it wasn't steak, it was pot roast beef cut up into tiny cubes. The beef was tender but it just tasted weird because well, it's not steak! Also they didn't use chihuahua or queso cheese which is traditional in mexican cuisine. Instead they used mozzarella. Staff is friendly, but my burrito was sub-par at best. read more

Solid rice and beans. I also ordered a grilled chicken soft taco. I was disappointed that it had dark meat chicken, but I did not ask before hand, so that's my fault. Salsa was hot! Loved their extensive menu. I may visit again before I leave the area! read more

Nourishment here is extremely new and flavorful. Extraordinary for children and they have a decent veggie lover determination. While most mexican eateries offer beans and cheddar for veggie lovers, Agave Azul has crisp vegetable alternatives that make this a family top pick. The mole is very great and the tacos are in my best five top picks, particularly the minister! read more

This place is one of our favorite places to eat!! It's hard to choose between their chorizo taco's or their california burrito, which both are SOOO good! Their queso and chips are really good too! The staff is very friendly here, but that is the only good thing I have to say about this place. I almost feel bad posting such a bad review because they were so nice. There were a lot of people in the restaurant, so I was expecting to get some pretty yummy food. I ordered veggie fajitas with a side of shredded cheese to go. It took about 15 minutes which is fine. You can eat in, but you will need to watch out for your order to come up and go get the food tray yourself. The cost was about $13.00 which is kind of pricey in my experience for veggie fajitas, but I didn't really care about it. That is, I didn't care about it until I got home and opened the container. The veggie blend was almost completely made up of green peppers. Out of about 1 cup of veggies, there was 3 slivers of onion and 1 sliver of tomato. Yuck! To make matters worse, the veggies were so greasy that there was a shallow pool of oil across the bottom of the container. I was given 3 tortillas, 1 of which was torn. The rice was dry. Their refried beans were good. The cheese I ordered on the side? They gave me 1 tablespoon of shredded cheese for something like $1.50. Gee, thanks. Bottom Line: Despite the lovely staff, I would never recommend anyone go here. The portions are small compared to your typical Mexican restaurant. The food isn't good unless you are just going to eat refried beans! read more
