Food court is ok and can be crowded at times. ===== A bit of a trek from downtown, but sadly I think this is the closest East Asian grocery store to the loop. It can be pretty crowded in here at peak times. Good selection of produce, dried goods, sauces, snacks, meat etc. they also have a nice section of fish cakes and fish balls as well as sashimi and other sushi-making ingredients. My favorite things to buy here are produce, tteok, rice, and overpriced kimbap (~9$+ per roll). Things here are generally pretty pricy compared to other shops out in Chinatown or in the suburbs. My beloved Joong Boo shall remain first in my heart over this place since it's much more reasonably priced, and the food court is better. They do have some good deals here that you can find on their weekly flyer. Food court is ok and has SGD tofu house which is my go-to, a fried chicken and corn dog place, and some other place I forgot that was probably meh. Staff are very friendly and things here are generally well-organized and easy to find. I have enjoyed H Mart. They have some great food options. The H Mart downtown has a cool, hip vibe to it. I have had fruit from H Mart that I really enjoyed, e.g., plums. They have prepared meals, which was very convenient and helpful for me. They even have an area where you can sit and dine if you would like. They have foods and goods that you may not find elsewhere, e.g., Vita Soy soy milk. They also have amazing-appearing prepared foods, e.g., delicious sushi. Their foods seem to be high quality. They have a lot of staff in case you need help shopping. They have lots of snacks. They also have a parking lot, which helps in downtown Chicago. read more

This was our second time going to H Mart. We went this time to grab lunch and we picked up a few aniguris placed an order with the restaurant and took our food home. Upon opening the aniguri we found an extremely long piece of hair in it. H Mart has a clean space, but it seems that their kitchen practices are unsanitary. Along with the service there, their communication style is unclear. Definitely do extra research on Google to know what it is you are ordering because the workers do not speak English. I usually love going to H Mart, but this time I was appalled seeing this when we got home. My advice is to definitely get the grocery food and not the premade food from the cafeteria to steer clear of the unsanitary practices. read more

Hard to describe how this H-Mart felt. It felt like it had all the products and features of a normal H-Mart in a suburb, but had like 2,000 square feet less to work with. Very nice asian grocery store. Have been a few times to grab lunch, breakfast and even some groceries. I have been working nearby the last few months and value this store. Inside the store there is produce section, seafood section, meat section, sushi and made foods. In addition to the grocery store there is a bakery and fast food options. The frozen section is extensive also. Lots of favorite Asian snacks, candy and teas available here. Check this place out if nearby. Conveniently located off 90/94 (Adams) with a free parking lot. Such a gem in the city with a designated parking lot! I was pleasantly surprised by the large selection of Korean and Chinese foods in this medium sized store. I've been to locations in Southern California where it's the size of a regular grocery store. Everything is neatly organized and separately into sections despite the narrow isles. The produce section is decent as well as the refrigerated sweet snacks (cake, rolls and mochi). They also have live seafood in the fish tank! I was able to find some great frozen dumplings and savory pancakes. They also have a great selection of BbQ meat and thinly sliced beef for hot pot. The icing on the cake is literally the French bakery in the front of the store! Features fresh baked buns, breads and pastries that also offer coffee and Boba drinks. Our family of four missed our train and had two ours till the next one. H Mart to the rescue!!! It was a short 15-20 min walk from the station and it was a fun way to pass t some time. Everyone got to pick a snack and we ate at the tables near the food court. Lots of great options. One of our kids went for a spam and kimchi rice roll. I noticed there was an H Mart in between Union Station and the hotel where I was staying, so I started walking. I honestly don't think I've ever been to an H Mart (we don't have them near where I live) but I knew it would be amazing. I didn't buy anything except some ready made food, but I'd love to go back and explore more. I did check the candy/snack aisle and saw some of the items we got in Japan, so that was fun. They have a lot of frozen items, fresh produce, seafood, and more. They also have a little food court area with a few stalls, ready made food (like kimbap, onigiri, sandwiches, sushi, etc.) and a bakery. I grabbed some triangle kimbap and spam musubi. There is enough of a selection that I can easily pick up ingredients to make a quick dinner. I can get in and quickly most of the time if I avoid rush hr and busy periods during the weekend. I have been to H Mart in Koreatown NYC at least every month for a dozen years but it does not compare to H Mart Chicago-Much cleaner with fresher, better priced items especially meats, seafood & vegetables. The service is friendlier with better technology including having a smart savings card to accumulate points to be used anywhere in the USA. Students also get a 5% discount Monday-Thursday. Lastly it has a Seoul inspired international vibe with co-branding of other Asian eateries in their food court including the stat Paris Baguette. H Mart is now my favorite Asian store to pickup foreign snacks, baked goods, meat, and fresh produce. The hubby and I have been meaning to stop by so today was our day! It was busy but we did not mind one bit. Plenty of hand sanitizers everywhere for you to use especially near the food court. We were hungry so we decided to stop and eat first before shopping. The husband ordered hot wings and boy they were delicious. I ordered the Buligogi burrito and it was also delicious. My pineapple Boba tea was the perfect pairing for those spicy wings. Food review will be with sgd dubu so gong! (Restaraunt in food court) I think this is one of the best centers to get popularised korean food. The food court is tight and small but holds most of the things you would crave for and isn't americanised. It has fried chicken, cheese corn dogs, korean cake & bread, sushi and soondubu. The hmart can be a bit pricy, but often has sales on asian veg and fruit. They also tend to have popular items like fire noodles and yogurt drinks, just a very tight space. Overall come here to fulfill your craving of korean food if you are near :). Actually this was the first hmart I've seen to have a spam musubi section which was interesting. The busses in Greek Town ( close by) are often delayed though just FYI. read more

TLDR: My favorite grocery store in the city and the best Asian grocer in town, hands down. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's small... But they have frozen durian, natto, kimchi, a lot of my favorite Japanese snacks (including senbei), thinly sliced pork and beef for at-home yakiniku or shabu shabu, AND Asian pears!!
