I made a special trip during my vacation to Big Island because of all the positive reviews and historic nature of the shop. I feel bad saying anything negative about JA businesses because I am JA myself but the joint was not great at all. It was dingy and felt dirty and in disarray. The place needs an update and the vibe, which was like my grandmas closet (if my grandma actually had a closet), did not encourage me to browse and buy. If you're coming from Oahu, better to just wait to buy fabric back home. If you're coming from a place that has no aloha fabric, I would recommend going to Hilo to Discount Fabrics instead. read more

Very large variety of fabrics with Hawaiian flare and great customer service. The elderly lady there is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Kimura's has a nice selection of various fabrics, some Batiks, poly-blends, Chiffons. Minky. There aren't many fabric businesses left in Kona, post-pandemic; but there's always someone there to help you. Their prints are not duplicates of Walmart fabric, worth the short drive to Kainaliu town,if you are a sewist or crafter. I found their prices be fair and comparable to other businesses. read more

Found a fabulous selection of bark cloth to cover a lampshade. They were also very helpful in directing me to local stores where I could find additional craft supplies for my project. read more

Oh what joy when I found this adorable fabric shop!! I ended up purchasing over 24 yards of fabric. The fabrics are gorgeous and the price is better than I can get in Phoenix. Reading their history this small store has been in Captain Cook over 100 years. read more

Every time I am in Kona there is a pilgrimage to Kimura's! Love this store ! I have place mats and table cloths from fabric purchased here!

In business for 98 years. A variety of fabrics and I found palaka and many Japanese inspired prints.

Very nice selection of batik, island and Asian print fabrics! There are also fabrics for the lunar year. Fabric is cut very carefully and straight. read more

The cutest retro shop with an array of patterns to choose from. They're legit since their business card is an adorable mini sewing kit. I spent a pretty penny here because I couldn't resist so many unique fabrics. The doors were locked due to COVID and I had to knock loudly to signal the staff. There isn't any air conditioning inside so be warned if you are expecting a blast of cold air when you're let in, although there is a fan by the register. The worker was knowledgeable and helpful with my questions about the kinds of patterns I was looking for. There are also adorable family photos that you can see which made it feel especially homey. Hands down my favorite spot along this little shopping street. read more

Wow! Thank you Kimura family for almost 100 years serving your local Community, I hope you last another 100 years. I can't believe how lucky we were to find this legit local gem for fabrics. If you love Japanese fabrics and are near South Kona this is a must-stop. Incredible selection at very reasonable prices. The sales person was very reserved at first but when I explained that I was buying fabric to make baby quilts, she visibly softened. I only wish I had brought a bigger suitcase. read more

I keep returning for the beautiful Hawaiian floral prints, and Japanese quality cotton. The intensity of some of the floral Hawaiian prints is so very beautiful. See will see my review for Discount fabric also, and I say hit both when you are on the island. Kimora has unique designs, at a fair price, while the other has a more extensive collection at a lower price. Each has a value. Kimura is a smaller shop, and less busy when I was there, but they had 2 people cutting my fabric at the same time, so I was was out quickly, after a very long time spent narrowing down my purchases. Really beautiful fabric. read more

I use to live down the street in Kainaliu. I loved Kimura store. Their selection of tropical-themed fabric was incredible. I now live on the mainland and could not find anywhere that even came close to how excellent their fabrics are! read more

Wow, I was overwhelmed with all the tropical fabrics after walking down just the first aisle! They had a nice selection of Japanese fabrics too. If you quilt or sew, this is a must stop, and you can't beat their prices. I bought some fabric for a quilt back at a quilt store in town for the normal $13 or $14 per yard then found it at H. Kimura for $8/yard! Be forewarned, I had to get an extra carry-on for all the fabric that I bought. read more

Charming fabric store, friendly service and a grand variety of island inspirational fabrics to create your next creation. Worth the drive out from Kona, just south of Kailua Kona town, about 20 min this is a must see place whether or not your into sewing. read more

Hawaiian prints galore! I love browsing the many rows of gorgeous colors and designs. This year I wanted to choose fabric for my office window, and I forgot to bring the measurements with me. Then I got carried away with options for other windows in the house. I realized that I needed to return asap with better planning. At least that means another trip sooner than usual! The ladies in the store are very helpful and knowledgeable. They introduced me to the owner, who was busy cutting fabric for a customer, to discuss ordering by mail. I love the historic nature of this store, in addition to the incredible selection of ethnic designs. read more

I LOVE this store! They have mostly Hawaiian and Japanese prints. The fabrics from Japan are beautiful but expensive. Other fabrics are at prices comparable to the other fabric store in town, or even Walmart. The service is good, not overly friendly. They are polite, yet reserved. During Covid they can only let 3 shoppers into the store at a time, but they are very considerate and apologetic if you have to wait. People think of Hawaii as luaus and the beach, but Kimura is a part of real local Hawaii that tourists don't often see. read more

We're coming back to the Big Island this summer. Their selection of island and Japanese fabric prints is amazing. Very nice helpers. There is nothing like this on the mainland. read more

Best selection for Hawaiian themed fabric at a reasonable price. Great accessories and hard to find items. Support our local businesses!

This fabric store has lots of fabric prints! If you love fabrics and are in the area, this is a must go. I bought a bunch of Hawaiian fabrics with pretty colored flowers! The average price for 1 yard is around $6-7, but you can buy quarters (spares that they have in rolls next to the cashier area) for $1.75. The place is run by two quiet ladies with a very friendly smile. I hardly recommend checking this place out. read more

Kimura Store has every type of fabric print you can imagine. There's rows and rows and rows...and rows. If you're looking for fabric, this is the place the go. Impressive selection and a super nice lady ready to assist. read more

Aloha! Definetly shop running by generations. My wife bought there some fabric with motive of ulu. Really nice one. Store remind me style of 80'. Mahalo for reading this. read more

This place was really sad on the inside. It was dirty, disorganized, dusty. Stuff just looked so old and neglected. It was a mess and it didn't look like it was doing too well. Uncomfortable energy. There could be some hidden gems at okay prices but I didn't have the time or inclination to try to hunt them out. read more

I found this store when going through a brochure of things offered in the Kona area. The owner asked me if she could help me when I walked in and then let me wander around and look at her huge selection of tropical prints. She answered all my questions and directed me to fabrics that I wanted to choose from. The batiks are beautiful as are the Hawaiian prints. She has a wide selection of different types of fabrics including rayon and cotton and polyester for clothing as well as upholstery fabrics. It is so refreshing to go to a store that is not a chain with the same old- same old! read more

The owner and her daughter were so patient and helpful this Summer while we visited the Island. They helped me pick out batiks for the Honu Kai quilt pattern. I would recommend this little treasure. read more

I love this place. I add to my sewing stash every trip we take to Kona. They have a large variety of Hawaiian prints, quilting fabrics, lace, silk and more. And the prices are not bad either. Hubby shops across the street at Donkey Balls so I can take my time looking at all of her fabrics. If you are a quilter, sewer or just love fabric, check this place out. read more

No Aloha. Walked into this cultural relic with high hopes. As my husband followed me in, the staff quickly retreated behind the counter to join an auntie. The next 10 minutes were filled with glares, mumbling, and snickering. Was never asked if I needed help, even as I was holding a bolt of fabric. Ultimately chose not to support an obvious episode of homophobia. So we left and spent our money to another local business down the street (Super J's), where we were embraced as Ohana. Save your $$$. There are plenty of other fabric stores with better selections and customer service. read more

This place was recommended by my mother law who's a local. There's definitely a lot of selection and beautiful Hawaiian prints. The ladies were very helpful and it was amazing they remembered where to locate a specific type of fabric and print. I love supporting local businesses. Highly recommend for fun and unique prints. read more

This is the best! Went to the other fabric store in town and just met with the most uninterested to help you employees as if they didn't need my business. The ladies in Kimura's helped with suggestions, walked my through the store to find what I needed, matched my thread and colors and are so much warmer than the frigid ice pole north in town. Why I ever though of patronizing someone else other than this sweet little mauka store that I spent many years (many years) wandering through in amazement of their selections, I will never know however, I am back and very happy. read more

A very cute shop that we stumbled upon on our recent trip to Kona. The fabric selection is really fun, especially since we rarely see prints like this on the East Coast. The staff was very friendly and ready to help, but not overbearing. Only wish I could have gotten a bunch of fabric to bring home in my suitcase :) instead of the fat quarters that I picked out. read more

This place is a Kona institution - a place where generations of locals bought fabric at reasonable prices. We make a point of stopping in every time we visit because it's important to support small businesses such as this. read more

Great fabric selection, amazing prices, and a really broad selection of prints. The service was friendly and helpful. We'll call the building rustic. There was no dedicated parking that I saw, so you have to find street parking which wasn't hard the day I went. The place is packed fairly tight with fabrics, so you may have to side step through some spaces to see everything. read more

A wonderful selection of Hawaiian and Japanese prints in a variety of fabrics. Even oilcloth. A classic store.

This store typifies an old department store feel of a bygone era. I made several trips there and bought something every time. They have a huge selection of Hawaiian fabrics, batiks and other fabrics. This is a must-see on the Big Island. The town is interesting as well. read more

We came here because my friend is a quilter. She was interested in their Japanese fabrics and came away with several unusual choices. I ended up with "plasticated" Hawaiian fabric to use as a tablecloth! What a find! One of the best selections and we visited two other quilt shops on the Big Island. Would highly recommend this shop as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and two ladies who both had a great attitude. read more
