I've been going to them more and more, and The Lucky Tiki was one I definitely had to try out. First off, I have to praise 1933 group because I have loved every single bar they have revitalized and this one is no different. In keeping with their MO, The Lucky Tiki is a speakeasy with a vintage vibe. I won't give away how to get in but let's just say, it's near the front of Highland Park Bowl. My husband and I didn't have a reservation, but we were able to put our name in and got seated about an hour or so later. I was amazed as soon as I walked in the door! It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. Was the perfect spot for a lively date night!

FYI this place requires reservations, yet they apparently do not honor reservations…read more I have friends coming into town from Greece, so I made a reservation because they love tiki but have no way of experiencing it in Greece, and so they even got aloha shirts to wear. So after having a reservation for weeks, I get a text from this place saying someone booked a private event so my reservation is cancelled. How about instead of accepting $$$ for a private event that will deny customers their reservation, they make the private event work around what is available? Terrible way of doing business, but I hope they get lots of $$$ and engagement for the privileged private event attendees.

Barbara's at the Brewery is definitely the highlight of the street because the sign is so large and parking is centered all around it but I still got confused on where the entrance was. I thought the entrance is where the large sign you see from the street is, but actually you have to walk past that sign and past the gate and all the way straight to the yellow building up ahead and that's when you run straight into Barbara's. There are two entrances but I didn't realize I was closer to the main one and somehow I walked all the way to the left and around up some stairs to go in from what I guess must be the back door. Next time once you are at the yellow building go around the right and the door is almost immediately to your left. Once inside I liked the vibe. There are two rooms, one is the bar area room and one is the room where people can just take their food or drinks and just hang out and eat. I went to the bar and the bartender was super friendly and he let me taste test the beer before ordering. I got the Poppiness beer which was very delicious and refreshing, ice cold. I sipped it slowly and it stayed cold throughout my whole meal. To eat I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries. I don't often eat fried food because my belly will hurt, but it was one of the few chicken items on the menu and I went for it. Good thing I did! The sandwich was absolutely delicious. The outside is perfectly crunchy that every time you bite in there is this satisfying crunch noise, and the inside chicken is a good thick portion of chicken and it is so moist and flavorful. I gobbled that sandwich down and wished I could get a second to go haha! The best thing though is that my belly did not hurt after eating this sandwich, I'm thinking the ingredients must be really clean. I definitely loved the food, the drinks, and the vibe of the place, and would 100% stop by again if I'm in the area!

Grandma's Purse, which features miso-infused Suntory, butterscotch, and 5 spice, was surprisingly savory and not sweet. On the other hand, Wabbit Season, which features carrot, cumin and celery among its ingredients, was surprisingly sweet. Go figure. I enjoyed the novelty of those drinks but I probably would not get them again. I would be interested in trying out some of their other cocktails though.

My husband and I recently tried their grilled cheese and tomato soup combo, too, which we really enjoyed. Very filling. Their cocktail program has some unique flavors, which isn't always my thing. But everything I've had has been outstanding, even their mocktails. I really liked one of the new ones I had recently, which was called something like Grandma's House? I can't remember, but it was spiced and had a star anise as garnish. A bit on the pricier side, but probably because they use premium ingredients and such unique flavors combos. Love the neighborhood bar vibe. It's a welcoming little oasis in the urban jungle of Highland Park.

You hit report spam and they keep on changing numbers and sending texts. FFS swamp, stop or you're going to have some issues with reporting. As a child who grew up in restaurants because my mom was a server her whole life, I find myself to be hopelessly nice to staff and of course tipped the hipster bang bartender ( don't know her name but I had those bangs in 2016 so that's just her name to me) I was exceedingly nice and this bartender doubled down. Not sure why. Look, I'll never come back so I don't really care about the bartender, but I care about constant spam and disregard for patrons privacy. You're a bar so you gotta stop. I liked the pickled veggies that came with - they helped balance out the creaminess of the paté. Would definitely order again. 2. GREEN CHOP SALAD: I liked the chop salad! Flavorful, great mix of textures, and a great addition to all the savory shareable plates. Since we came during happy hour, they had a deal where you could order this and the Onion Noodles for a discounted price. 3. HAMACHI CRUDO: I've had too many hamachi crudos to count, and to be completely honest, they all start to blend together. This is a good one. Great appetizer choice, especially if you're ordering other dishes on the heavier side, like the chicken wings and onion noodles. 4. CHONG QING CHICKEN WINGS: I loved the chicken wings. Nice, crispy skin, but still tender and juicy inside. Other chili wings can be too oily, but these were perfect. I couldn't stop eating these. 5. SHANGHAI TRIPLE ONION NOODLES: Yummy! I loved the texture of the crispy onions paired with the noodles. This felt like a dish that could go well with anything else on their menu. 6. BLACK SESAME BROWN BUTTER RICE KRISPY TREATS: Of course we had to make room for dessert, and these were delicious. The stone fruit balanced the heaviness of the black sesame, which, if you've had before, you know can easily overpower a dish. SERVICE (5/5): Service was great. I like that you can order a beer for the cooks. In my head, it feels like I'm (hopefully) contributing to a fun environment back there. AMBIENCE (5/5): Good for dates or casual hangouts. I like their outside patio, especially when the weather is nice. PARKING (3/5): Street parking. TAKEAWAYS: I think a strength of The Airliner is how well the dishes all complement each other - the wings paired with the salad and the onion noodles hit everything you would want in a meal. The noodles are a good staple, while the chicken wings give you that extra oomph of flavor and crunch. The salad gives you a little break, and the paté you can snack on in between bites when you get a little bored. I would love to try their other dishes, like their curry crispy rice! Would definitely come back again. I was pleasantly surprised.
