THE ABSOLUTE WORST place to get your taxes done. Terrible customer service, misquoted return amount, taxes submitted incorrectly, missed filing important documents. I was told 'thank goodness you paid for peace of mind' even though the mistake was completely on them. Impossible to get ahold of anyone. I will never use H&R Block again or refer anyone to use them. They charge an insane amount, made a mistake on my taxes then refused to refund me the $815 they charged. I will never work with Tax Pro David Elmer again. I filed a complaint and escalated it and then refused a refund by Team Leader Lisa Erb. Common business practice is to make a customer feel they were rendered good service. I was left feeling robbed and taken advantage of. My taxes were filed incorrectly by H&R Block, I paid $815 for this tax service. To right the situation I was offered a $50 discount to return to them next year. What a joke! read more

2.5 - 3 stars. My partner called to schedule an appointment here and Gwen(?) was very helpful and knowledgeable to what we were to expect coming in. She even provided a very rough estimate on what we would pay. When we arrived it was not what we expected... Timothy had trouble populating our documents that we had uploaded to the secure site earlier in the day. He was also not upfront about pricing (as the information for pricing transparency was promoted when we walked in) and after completing everything finally provided what we would owe to H&R Block. Long story short, we were there for almost 2 hours and while it was not an easy return, it should not have taken that long. If the pricing was mentioned in the beginning we would have done it ourselves. Not returning next year. read more

I made an appointment a week in advance. They called me the night before the appointment at 9:40pm to cancel. I wouldn't trust this office to handle dog walking let alone tax documents at this point. Absolutely horrible customer service for virtual tax filing. These people do not know how to file taxes or communicate. Your file will get ignored or lost in the abyss, you will be transferred to multiple advisors, none of them will communicate with you or know what they are doing, and you will not get your taxes filed on time. First I called this place and was told typically if I owe the IRS from this tax return. Its typically no charge, but I told them that I also have a 1099 form as well. So they told me it would be around $100. I thought that wouldn't be to bad, so today I went into this store and got my taxes done. They charged me $274 for two W-2 and one 1099. Now I owe $415 on top of that to the IRS. Next year I will not be going to H & R Block. Matter of fact. I'm never going to H&R BLOCK again. I feel like they took advantage of me. Specially since I tried to do it myself and the online tax place said I would owe $277. I just could not finish it cause I did not have a code for last years taxes. read more

It's unfortunate you can't give 0 stars. This place is a waste of money! They charge you per form they fill out to complete your income tax instead of a flat fee. I am a Washington state resident who, at the time, had been living and working abroad for a few years. I relocated to the Seattle area to attend graduate school. I realize not everyone is familiar with the tax protocol for professionals working internationally and I asked before sitting down with a 'tax professional' at the H&R block offices whether someone there would be able capable of completing my return. I was assigned Sandra Ellis - she assured me she would be able to do the return. Unfortunately this was far from the truth. I was told during this first meeting that she would be unable to tell me the cost of preparing my return because H&R Block has a policy of charging per form the CPA fills out. Since each form is associated with its own fee it would be impossible for her to know for sure how much the return would cost. By the third time I met with Ms. Ellis the fee for that year's tax preparation had exceeded $350 (the most I have ever spent on a single year's return - even returns prepared in NY and London cost less). Ms. Ellis also told me that I owed a considerable amount of tax to the federal government. I paid both fees. The following year when tax season rolled around, I asked for referrals in the Seattle area, and found an incredible accountant named Lynn Parsley. In addition to preparing the current year's return, I asked that she review the return prepared by H&R Block. What she found was astonishing! I had overpaid by more than $1000.00 - courtesy of Ms. Ellis' ineptitude and H&R Block's lack of oversight. Thankfully it was early enough to correct and I was able to recover the money I'd lost. Needless to say, i will never use another H and R block! The discrepancy caused me to overpay and the service was appalling. When I confronted the manager of the location with the discrepancy, no effort was made to rectify it and I was finally told that the period during which I could lodge a complaint had expired. H and R block is a scam. I have no idea if this kind of customer service is endemic to their brand or if the location in Shoreline is a particularly poor example of their work. I'm surprised they haven't been cited by the BBB. read more

DON"T use H&R block. I've used them for last 5 years. A friend said find a C.P.A. My CPA reviewed the previous 3 years of tax returns. H&R Block was having me overpay the IRS. My CPA refilled with the IRS and then I got a $200 check from the IRS.I would have never gotten that money back unless a professional had reviewed the previous returns from H&R block. The charge for my CPA was not that much more the what H&R Block charged. USE a professional. read more

I went in to get my taxes done and was told I had to come back again and again after spending a significant amount of time there because they could not figure out and decide how to do something simple. After being told I had to come back a third time and had wasted so much time I sad forget it and went somewhere else. This was the absolute worst service I've ever received with a tax consultant. We were assigned to John O. who's business card said Master Tax Advisor. First let me say that he could not read the figures on any of our forms and had to bring them right up to his face to be able to read them, which made me nervous right from the start since the numbers are the most important part of a tax return. Then as we moved into the HSA portion, he had no idea how to make dual HSA accounts work properly in their system. He then went to his manager, Naomi S. who came to help but he instead argued with her over the correct procedure. After I next asked him if he would be able to tell us how much we could contribute to an IRA and Roth IRA, he said yes but then proceeded to stare at his computer forever trying to figure out how to do that. Needless to say we grew very nervous and decided we were done. The manager came back over and my wife asked if there were more knowledgeable people to help us and she said yes, but never offered up one of them or herself after she could clearly see the problem going on. We were in for 1.5 hours at this point and not even close to being done. A complete joke and a terrible experience for sure. Don't waste your time going here. read more

I wish I could give 0 Stars. Donna has prepared my taxes and I am constantly wondering if they are done right because she always wants to check to see if she made mistakes on previously filed taxes when ever I come in to do new taxes. She is very slow. For example I have been coming into this office since last year to resolve things she is just now getting around to doing nearly 8 months later. I have been coming in since January to file my 2012 tax return and still have not got her to get it done. Each time I come in with a simple quarterly report, which is only about 5-10 checks I received for my business, each time it takes her no less than 90 minutes to do what my mom used to do for me in 15 minutes on the DOR site, and $50 to file each quarter how much money was deposited in to a business account is too much. Most recently I had Donna file a return for 2009 for personal income. She did so in March 2012 and handed me an envelope and told me to put a stamp on it and mail it. I clearly asked her if I need to do anything else before I mail it and she said no. The tax return was mailed back to me and they informed me that it needed a signature. I immediately called Donna because I was told that if this is not mailed by April 15th, that it would be past the 3 year deadline to get my return that H & R block screwed up back in 2009. Donna assured me that she did not want me to sign it and mail it back until our next appointment because she was concerned that she had made some error and wanted to see it. At our next appointment I again expressed concern about now mailing it in late at her request. She said I had nothing to worry about because she had filed the form before due date, asked me to sign it and I immediately mailed it in. Today I got a certified letter from IRS stating that they refused to pay my return because it was sent late at Donnas recommendation. I called H&R Block to hold Donna responsible and she told me to bring in the letter. I left work immediately and was at her office in 15 minutes. She told me that I should have made a copy of what she told me to mail and with out a copy she could do nothing. I asked her if H&R Block offers any compensation for the mistake they made just like they advertise on TV, but she said that H&R Block does not guarantee anything and that if I would get my money eventually that it would take several weeks or months and would not happen over night. I really needed this money and expected it. I even offered to just sign the thing and mail it again but Donna instisted that I do not do that and to bring it in to my next appointment, well past the mailing due date, so that she could review more mistakes she was concerned about. Funny thing is that there were no mistakes that I can see other than her telling me to mail it with out opening the envelope to see it needed a signature. I am really frustrated that she told me not to mail it until after the due date even after I made a bid deal about concerns that this would happen. She told me she has been doing taxes for years and that I have nothing to worry about. his store is a franchise, NOT corporate owned stores! I got my 2011 tax done here, my wife just immigrated recently, she needed an ITIN number (special number assigned to applicants who have no SSN, I need it to file my wife as my dependent). The franchise owner of shoreline store is the closest acceptance agent around where I live, so I decided to go to that store instead of Jackson Hewitt right next to where I live. Weeks after application was filed, I got an mail requesting more info cause apparently some of the req documents were missing, got a phone call from the owner explaining that he is aware of the situation and he will get it fix, so I don't have to worry about it. THEN weeks later, I got another letter from IRS stating that my application was rejected because I did not respond to their request... So I called IRS before going back, the reason why it was rejected is as stated in the mail "NO RESPONSE WAS RECEIVED IN A TIMELY MANNER". So I went back the H&R BLOCK at Shoreline, they gave me all these BS reasons about how the process has changed, ya da ya da ya da, All because of IRS' problem, not their fault. At that time I already got my wife a SSN, so we decided to go for the e-filing route... on the very last day of deadline for filing tax, got a phone call from H&R block stating that the e-filing was rejected due to the SSN was too new, so the computer couldn't recognize the number... ok... I went in, grabbed a hard copy of my tax return docs, since it's the last day of tax filing without any penalty fee, I had to send it out by that day. There were multiple USPS stores open late just for that day, front desk ladies kept on giving me the wrong info, First they told me there is one open in down town Seattle at **** Pine St. S, "DOWN TOWN SEATTLE" they repeatedly emphasize that location (I forgot if it was pike or pine... either or... I am just gonna say it's pine for now)... then I came to realize that pine st. goes in east-west direction, how could there be a "South" in the address, called them again, they said it's actually W not S... right before I was about to leave to DOWN TOWN Seattle during rush hour, I somehow decided to double confirm on the USPS website. I found out that, it was **** Pine St. S but in TACOMA! I called them, ladies were very impatient to hear my phone call again, I called them in extremely calm and patient tone to remind them that they are giving out the wrong info, they need to know, so everyone can stop going to down town Seattle for the wrong address. The lady basically went "WHATEVER" on my friendly reminder. I also found out online that if you were rejected by IRS from e-filing, you would have 8 days of grace period to mail in a hard copy even AFTER the deadline... no one seem to know the answer at all. Finally after putting me on hold like 4 times and 5 mins each time, they finally came up with a conclusion of IF IRS owes you money, then you don't really have a deadline. Deadline req is only for those who owes IRS money... honestly, I don't even know if it is true or not. I am suppose to get a refund check of roughly 40 bucks for not filing with ITIN number (as they failed to file my return that way), it's been weeks and I still have not yet hear anything, i called them about 5 days ago, front desk lady asked for my number and said that someone would call me back in a timely manner... it's been 5 days.. where is my refund check? where is my phone call? I paid a big chunk of fee for this store to file tax so it could be hassle free and stress free experience since I don't know too much about tax. They don't respond to your concern within a reasonable time. It's the worst experience I have ever had from tax filing. All they do is putting the number in their system, they don't have thorough understanding and knowledge about filing tax returns. Front desk ladies will filter as much call as possible before you can get to the agent that worked on your tax. I guess it's their job so agents would have more time accepting new customers and making more money for the franchise!!! Owner has gone missing and won't deal with the refund that he owes me since the deadline of tax filing. My actual refund is somehow $600 dollar short than the number I filed! I have never had so much trouble with my tax and the owner is no where to be found! read more
