We had been a client of Parker Mooers & Cena for quite a few years. At first, they did our taxes…read morebut over the last 3 to 4 most recent years, they did our monthly taxes, payroll, and bookkeeping for our business. For the first couple of years, things went fairly smoothly. The bookkeepers assigned to us for the first couple of years were fast and efficient and completed our work usually in 2-3 business days each month. However, this year they switched us to Kim who was slow and expensive. They were charging us $100 per hour for her work. Although our business grew over the years the amount of work Parker Mooers & Cena completed has stayed about the same. Although our business grew significantly, retail transactions came over in lump sums every week so taxes and bookkeeping were about the same amount of work, merely larger numbers. I bring this up because this was Dennis's excuse for why our prices had more than doubled. About the only thing that increased was the number of employees so slight increases were to be expected for payroll service but we were quoted by Dennis when we first started bookkeeping services of about $350 a month. This year our base fee was $700 a month and most months were between $750 and $1000. While the pricing increased the service decreased. From the beginning communication with Parker Mooers & Cena has been pretty poor, especially from our accountant Dennis. While there was never a set discussion about the time our bookkeeping would take for the first few years it happened quickly and we had updated books usually the first week of each month. However, this year Kim always had an excuse for why things were taking so long. First, it was "emergencies" then it was "medical issues." While we are sympathetic to life happening there was never any communication and these things were not discovered until we reached out for an update on the work for which we were paying. One week we were told bookkeeping would be done by Friday. The next week rolled around and nothing was done. When I asked about it there were "emergencies." (see emails in images) However, no one from Parker Mooers & Cena reached out or communicated there would be a delay even though we were told things would be completed by a certain time. The first time delays happened I CC'd Dennis in an email and heard no response. When I asked Dennis why he had not responded he said " I get 100's of emails a day you can't expect me to respond to all of them." A couple of months later again we were told our services would be complete. However, medical issues came up which we did not find out about until we followed up. At no time did Kim or Dennis or anyone from Parker Mooers & Cena reach out to us. I directly emailed Dennis about this and he scheduled a time to talk to me the following day. He called the next day and from the beginning of our conversation, Dennis was incredulous at the idea that Parker Mooers & Cena had done anything wrong. When I brought up the medical issues and that we had hired Parker Mooers & Cena and not Kim and we were unaware of her medical issues and that those issues were not our concern as it related to business he said verbatim "those are your issues." Again we hired Parker Mooers & Cena, not Kim the bookkeeper. At no time did Dennis try to see any of our concerns from our perspective. He was angry from the beginning and acted as if we were wasting his time. He cussed at me on the telephone (see attached image emails) and never tried to solve the problem. Finally, Kim was extremely unprofessional. In emails, you would call things the R-word and overall lacked a filter. (see attached image of an email) We are a family business and my father-in-law had previously worked with Dennis. When I took over the financial side of our business Dennis talked to me like I was a child. It was clear he did not want to work with me. Dennis would answer questions if asked but never offered advice. Dennis never reviewed our relationship to explain why prices were increasing. Dennis never touched base to see how their team could improve or make our relationship better. Furthermore, Parker Mooers & Cena knew very little about the specific tax codes for farm businesses and on many occasions, we would have to research them and ask about them. We were clearly not getting the service for which we were paying. There is definitely a communication issue that seems to start from the top and has trickled to bookkeepers like Kim at Parker Mooers & Cena. We are disappointed our relationship ended with Parker Mooers & Cena but they do not seem like a good fit for small businesses.

He was like the proverbial mother-in-law in the GOOD way; and when we figured out our final return: newly married, rental property, residence property...I was happy that he explained everything in plain English, (I could have taken more tax jargon, really!) and [he] found each exception he could, explaining what needed to be taken, etc.) THIS GUY. He's a CPA. He studied [and paid the] same amount as everybody else to gain this certification. I sent him Operating Agreement of the business and reminded him that I am the 50% shareholder of the company and have an executive power, and decision making for the company and he can't withhold the financial records and information from me. He sent an email to me saying that my questions regarding my QuickBooks are threatening and disrespectful to his office and told me that I can't communicate with their office anymore. This person have been unprofessional and rude. He is paid by my company and hired by my company, but withholds my records and information from me. I asked about their credentials, he responded that my inquiry is disrespectful and offensive. I would like to know who is the governing board of this company. I am wondering if he owns a license or an appropriate training of the code of ethics, rules or regulations of the line of his business, otherwise he should have known that he can't work as a book keeper for my company and yet doesn't feel accountable to answer my questions regarding the quick book and handling my sensitive financial information. Despite being an H&R customer for more than a decade, I was treated like a giant pain when I asked for the specific tax preparer who'd done my taxes the year before. But now I am grateful to that rude old goat because I contacted Waterfront to do them instead. I was able to get an almost immediate appointment with a professional who was friendly and helpful. The taxes were done in less than an hour, by a CPA (rather than simply a "tax preparer.") He accessed every legal deduction and gave me solid advice for next year. I can't believe I've been going to H and R Block for years, getting just adequate service, sometimes grudgingly. James Fritz, in the Silverdale office quickly did my taxes, saved me money, and then charged HALF of what H&R Block has been charging me! My taxes were the same difficulty, the same number of schedules and forms, as every previous year. But now, they were done by a CPA for half the cost! (to my fault I should have reviewed their work but that's why I hired them so I didn't have to) well turns out they completely left off a W2 and I owed more in taxes. the IRS hit me with a roughly 1,000 dollar penalty which they "paid" by doing my taxes this year free and refunding my 2021 tax fee. but because of their error I was responsible for a 470 dollar interest fee that they would not cover. so be prepared to review all of their work. if an error happens regardless If it was their fault, you will be responsible for the interest owed because of their error in addition to the tax you owe. I told them I would not have incurred the interest because I would have paid my full tax bill had it been prepared correctly, but they said that was policy. So unless they correct this policy I would look elsewhere for a more reputable company that takes responsibility for errors of their service. Respectfully I typically do not write reviews but because their error cost me an additional cost of almost 500 dollars and the IRS headache I was not a satisfied customer.

Upon first meeting, he misrepresented himself and his fraudulent services. I should have seen the red flags from the beginning when he spoke rather condescendingly to me. I'm a disabled man so I missed many other initial cues. He took advantage of me as a disabled person. That's discrimination. My sister, who had used him separately, had also been swindled by this man. She too had spoken about his condescending manner. Again, this is bigotry. To our detriment, we trusted him with basic taxes. Keep in mind that I said "basic". What a huge mistake. He "nickel and dimed" us with many unauthorized charges. This "nickel and diming" added up to be in the thousands of dollars. He hadn't attempted any communication during this process. When done, his charge was in the thousands of dollars. He charged more for swindling me than I saved in taxes. This is either bigotry or gross incompetence. Either way, it's unacceptable. When I confronted him over the phone, all he had was a pile of excuses a mile high. He then resorted to verbal bullying and condescension. Can you believe that. Mr Grass resorted to bullying a disabled man when confronted with his fraud. This man is incompetent and a bigot. I cannot recommend this crook for any reason.

UPDATE APRIL 23, 2023:…read more BETTER LATE THAN NEVER/ SELF-EMPLOYMENT SHAFT In my original review, I said "more on that later" re: my original estimate for my 2018 taxes being $1580, but the actual damage was $655 ($925 less!). I failed to say that that's because I had no more "self-employed" paper route. (side note: newspaper delivery is still legally classified as "self-employment", but it's actually "employee without employee rights") The point is, if you are self-employed, the tax prep fee is going to be higher. INVESTMENTS ALSO WILL DING YA In this update, I would like to say that my 2019 tax prep fee was $885. The $230 uptick in fees(from $655 in 2018) was probably because that was the year I did my first investment rollover. If you have investments (IRAs, annuities, 401ks,etc.), your tax prep fee will be higher for that as well (especially if you have a slush fund...;). Therefore pay no attention to these outfits that offer to do your taxes for "free." That's only for people with simple tax returns with no self-employment, no investments, no property holdings, or any other complicated financial scenario that could give your accountant headaches! DID COVID "STAY HOME" ORDER GIVE PEOPLE TIME TO DO THEIR OWN TAXES? My 2020 tax prep fee went down again to $540 (a $345 downtick from 2019) possibly related to the initial two week COVID-19 WA state "stay home" order from March 23, 2020, which was extended to May 31, 2020. The 2021 fee was an identical $540 (COVID lag?) But starting this year with the 2022 taxes the tax prep package recommended sending in 1/2 the amount I paid for the 2021 taxes ($540/2 = $270) as an advance deposit. So I sent them the $270 deposit. But when the taxes were ready, I looked at my 2022 printed copy, which showed their fee charges failed to take into account the $270 deposit I already paid. They corrected that when I brought it to their attention. But the total fee still owing was $405. So $405 plus $270 already paid = $675. Why the $135 uptick from the $540 charged in 2021 and 2020? I was told that that their rates were going up. Perhaps the somewhat improved economy since 2020 took away the luxury of time at home to do one's own taxes, and instead allow people the luxury of paying accountants to do their taxes.
