During my initial conversation with Susan, I explained that I needed a full-service firm, as my previous individual preparer failed to submit filings on time. Susan assured me that her firm could handle my 2023 taxes and LLC needs for 2024. After submitting the initial documents, I went over a month without any progress updates. In mid-April, someone requested additional documents required for filing. Another month passed before I heard that my taxes were being finalized. Follow-up questions were met with week-long delays. I eventually met in person with someone not directly handling my account to review my filings and ask further questions. They apologized for the communication issues and said Susan would get in touch. When Susan finally contacted me, she cited a shortage of CPA professionals as the reason for the communication delays and the incomplete status of my taxes. I asked what assurances she could provide that future filings would be submitted on time if I continued to be a responsive client. I also requested a reduction in my invoice due to the poor service. Someone else from the firm then informed me that they could not guarantee timely completion of my future tax needs and that there would be no adjustment to the bill. At this point, I knew I needed to find a new CPA but still needed my current taxes filed. However, two more questions have stretched things out another month, and I am still waiting for a response. I have decided to go elsewhere for this year's and future tax needs. I am already receiving state notices about overdue filings and cannot wait any longer for Susan Lewis CPA to respond. My new firm completed everything tax related for me in 3 weeks. Throughout this process, I responded to all information requests within days. Susan Lewis CPA had to be reminded to respond to me over 10 times. It is unacceptable for them to blame a staffing shortage after the fact. They should have informed me in March if they were experiencing delays. If Susan Lewis CPA does not have enough staff, they should not take on new clients and promise to manage their tax services. You would be wise to seek another CPA.

When I do, it's because of truly stellar service…read more My husband and I came to Michael Raff after 3 other accounting firms failed to help us solve a costly error made by the IRS and a previous accountant. The issue had been lingering since 2020 (2019 tax year). We tried numerous CPA firms and tax accountants. A few claimed they could help ultimately at significant cost to us, many told us to "forget about it". Last fall we decided this was a job for a tax attorney. I read reviews from every possible source trying to find a tax attorney with good reviews. Michael Raff's reviews were 100% great. I was suspicious of that many great reviews. I concluded that there were too many and too varied for the feedback to be fake. Not only that, he has a transparent and meticulous process for the way he bills and updates clients. Others before him pledged to keep us informed but only Michael proactively phoned us (and followed up with an e-mail) at the end of every month. The minimal retainer he asked for in order to work on this problem is still not used up. Michael was able to retrieve the money from the original error in LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, where other large, expensive firms had failed us for OVER 5 YEARS. He is still planning to retrieve money from the IRS on our behalf for the error adjacent money. We assumed he was a specialist only and worked as a dedicated tax attorney. Michael also does regualar tax preparation. It did not take much convincing to for us to engage him as our accountant. If you want an acccountant who is knowledgeable, dedicated, and ethical, I think you would be hard pressed to find someone more skilled than Michael Raff.
