This was my first, and last time to an H&R Block. This year I faced some changes to my traditional tax return which I usually do on TurboTax. I wanted to make sure my taxes were done correctly, so I chose to have my taxes prepared and submitted through H&R Block. I had a scheduled appointment at 11 o'clock at the Howell street location in Dallas. I arrived a few minutes early and was greeted by the office manager, and the woman at the front desk. The manager was friendly and made small conversation with me as I awaited my "tax specialist" Arlanna. I was offered water and bagels, and was feeling welcomed with the initial vibe of the place. Once I was seated with Arlanna, we quickly realized that she was not a suitable specialist for my refund. I had two W2's, one from here in Texas and one out of state W2 which is accompanied with a State income tax. In addition to this and my recent marital status change, they decided to place me with Andy, a higher tier tax specialist. This is where my experience was going from 5 stars to 1. Andy greeted me in Arlanna's cubical. I told him that I usually use turbotax, but I'm using H&R Block because of all the things I have mentioned above. Andy was quick to jump the gun to assume that I just wanted to get free advice from the specialists then leave. Andy said "I'm not going to sit here and walk you through your tax return just so you can turn around and use TurboTax, our competitor." He kept insisting that I need to "make up my mind" and decide if I want to use them or TurboTax. I was NOT teetering back and forth deciding which service to use. My mind was clearly made up the second I set foot in your store. I was tired of Andy belittling me, for whatever reason. I packed my things, apologized to Arlanna, and walked out.
In a nutshell, I would avoid this H&R especially if you have a somewhat complicated tax return so you do not have to deal with Andy. I could not imagine having to sit down with him and his attitude for an hour while preparing my taxes. Instead of sitting through more tax preparation courses, perhaps you can sit through a course to develope social skills.
I will take my business, and money elsewhere. read more
