I recently visited Günay in Vienna after hearing great things about Middle Eastern food in central Europe. The restaurant was spacious, and it's apparently even better known for its breakfast buffet. Here's what I tried for dinner:
- Lamb Chops: 9.3/10: It was grilled to perfect tenderness, with a great charred flavor, and lacked the typical gamey taste. The rice and vegetables, including tomato, were excellent complements. I highly recommend trying lamb in Europe as it is noticeably better than ones typically found in North America.
- Special Pida (Pita):8.8/10: Great pita with beef, cheese, and a variety of fresh ingredients. It felt a lot like eating a thin-crust pizza, but with an abundance of fresh flavors. The two dipping sauces added a great variety of taste to the dish.
- Mixed Platter: 9.3/10: While the mixed platter was similar to those at other places, the quality of the meat stood out. The chicken was perfectly grilled and tender, the steak surprisingly tender (unlike the dry, tough versions one often finds elsewhere), and the lamb/beef patties were flavorful and juicy, enhanced by added seasonings (like pepper). read more
