I know, "gypsy" used to be used interchangeably w/, "bohemian;" but the Roma people have been pretty vocal about this being an ethnic slur used against them. read more

Walked in on a Fall Saturday for dinner and despite no reservation (recommended for sure!) were able to be seated right away. The vibe is eclectic and artsy but very friendly. Great fun first night out. Very unique menu, something for everyone. I had 2 appetizers- grilled cheese fondue and duck quesadilla. Others had vegetarian curry, Italian lamb. Traveling through Lincoln NH we had a lovely lunch at Gypsy. Nice outdoor seating, although due to the heat we sat inside in the A/C. Service was excellent, the greeter, the server and the owner all were friendly and welcoming. A feast for all of the senses! Our dinner here was truly a delight! We arrived on a very rainy Saturday evening and the place was packed. Even though we didn't have a reservation, the owner squeezed us in. The menu has a lot of interesting items from around the globe, and we took recommendations from our super friendly server. The items we ordered (brussel sprouts, corn and shrimp fritters and grilled cheese fondue) were all spiced expertly. The chef (who is the owner's son) really has a way with seasonings. Everything was delicious! The chef is also the artistic force behind the eclectic decor in the restaurant. We were so enthralled with it, our server had him come out to chat with us! They offer international menu favorites, Asian, Latin American, Mediterranean and American favorites. We all had something different and all enjoyed our meals. I played it safe with a BLT and it was delicious. Tomato was ripe, plenty of thick bacon and a toasted roll. Sister had a burger and loved every bite. Hit this gem during my ski-trip early this year. With a copious amount of energy burned while practicing skiing (tripping more than learning I guess), I was ravenous to have left even a single drop of curry on my plate. Fortunately, I wasn't only delighted with the food but it's ambience more. Cute cafe, true to it's name, has gone experimental with the decor. Dramatic set-up of bright lights, murals, neon colored walls, succulents, with a twist. Indonesian Peanut Noodles, Jumbo Shrimp and Mezze Platter were equally scrumptious and well presented. There were two distinct drinks on my table - Hot Chocolate for the soul and Red Apple Martini to toast to the first ski! The price range was super legit and the atmosphere was comforting enough to have made me tip so much better. And I only had one dish so I will give the benefit of the doubt that there burgers are just not there strong suit. But I would still not go here. The prices are rocket high, the serving sizes are brutal. I ordered a double patty 7 ounce burger, and let me tell you they were most defenitly not 7 ounces. Maybe 7 ounces between the two. Gypsy is an eclectic little joint that is great for dinner! My boyfriend and I went here on the recommendation of his mom, who said that their cranberry Mac and cheese was killer. We were bummed to find out that we couldn't get the Mac and cheese without bacon bits but fortunately there were alternatives! Gypsy cafe has an adorable interior - hanging wooden clouds, blown glass decor, aloe plants and Christmas cacti keep your eyes entertained while you're seated. Service is quick and friendly, and the menu has a wide range of cuisines, from Indian to Mediterranean to Mexican. I do wish they had a larger variety of vegetarian options, but they did have enough for visiting vegetarians to have a choice! We didn't order drinks, but the cocktail menu sounded delicious. To start, we ordered a mezza plate - sooo darn good, you guys. Their pita bread was fresh and hot, but their baba ganoush was the real star. I already miss that baba ganoush. My boyfriend and I both then got the pumpkin farfalle - portions were huuuuuge, I had to get most of mine to go. I wish that the pasta was spiced a bit more - our table didn't have salt or pepper either - but the pasta was nicely cooked, the pumpkin seeds and Panko gave it a nice texture, and it was served piping hot. Overall, we had a great experience at Gypsy cafe. This is my favorite restaurant in Lincoln as of yet and I can't wait to come back! read more

I honestly have no idea how I haven't reviewed Gypsy yet. I've been coming to Gypsy for years and absolutely love everything about this restaurant...well except maybe that it is impossible to get in to during tourist season. Everyone always make us feel welcome and at home from when we arrive until getting the check (shout out to Claire at the host stand and Michelle at the bar, they are the best!). We love the atmosphere, the delicious drinks (great margaritas!) and the eclectic menu. The food is out of this world and a nice change from the other burger joints. My go to is either the swordfish or the salad with mango and shrimp. As a hiker, I've been turned away plenty of times due to there not being any spots for hours (reservations don't work when you don't know when you'll be off the mountain), but it's worth a try every time because it is such an awesome spot. read more

We stopped here after a hike up Tuckerman's Ravine to Hermit Lake and then back down. Boy were we exhausted. And famished. This cafe was close by to the hotel that we were staying in so we hopped in after we all took quick showers. We arrived about 30 minutes after opening and it was already quite busy. The decor was so cool. Beautiful murals, carvings, paintings, signs and posters. The tables were all adorned differently as well. Ours had embellishments all embedded in a clear resin and then edged off with mosaic tiles. Our group consisted of hubby and I, my 6 year old, my 16 year old and his GF (the vegetarian of the group). We had the Brussels sprouts and cauliflower patty for our appetizers. They were scrumptious. The Brussels sprouts were coated and deep fried and came with a dipping sauce. The cauliflower patty was served over tzatziki. I got the Malaysian tofu stir fry, hubby got the steak fajitas, son got enchiladas Rojas and his gf got a veggie burger. Everything was eaten all up except for the veggie burger. But to her defense she ate all of her salad and most of the 2 appetizers we had. We were about to order a dessert but towards the end of our meal the wait staff was so busy that they forgot our drink refills and it took so long to take our dessert order that we ended up passing on dessert and then it took 5-10 minutes to get the check. Great little place. Food was delicious. Fried Brussels Sprouts were amazing!! Sadly, service was meh... Word of advice for the kitchen: when making a piping hot pizza (which was delicious, btw) for a child, maybe make it first so it cools off by the time the other orders are served. Was told "careful, plate is hot," when it arrived. Told my grandson to wait for it to cool off, but it was still too hot when he tried it - when two of us had already finished our meals! He burnt his mouth and chin so bad - his chin got a blister :( I asked for ice to soothe him, even told the server why I needed ice, and no one even asked if he was okay. I know stuff happens, and I know hot food should be hot, but it was just heartbreaking to see my little guy hurt :( read more

I don't often give five star reviews but this little place earned it for sure! My husband and I were heading over to the Ice Castles in Woodstock (a two+-hour drive for us), and he wanted to make 'date night' something special so he suggested Gypsy, knowing it was 'my' kind of food (he wouldn't eat at a place like that - good, fresh, ingredients, eclectic menu and decor, complex flavor profiles - if he were eating by himself). This means our next date will be at Arby's, so he gets equal time. Totally worth it! But I digress... First of all - don't forget to make reservations for dinner on a weekend night. More about that later in the review. The decor was absolutely beautiful - wonderfully done mosaics (I am a glass artist and I could see the work and time put into the art), healthy succulents, quirky designs. Our server said that the owners' son is the artist who does all of the work in the restaurant - amazing talent that has turned the place into an art gallery as well as a restaurant. Gypsy was very busy the night we went, but we were seen to promptly - and greeted by Claire, the owner, herself! Our server was very friendly and attentive, and helpful in finding me GF options. We started with drinks (my warm cider was sweeter than I would have liked, but good, and my husband's margarita was a sour/salty surprise) and a scrumptious app special - jumbo shrimp wrapped in potato strings and flash fried. The dipping sauce could have had a bit more flavor, but the shrimp was SO good it hardly needed any embellishment. I ordered the Moroccan haddock (which they made GF for me) and my husband surprised me by ordering the steak fajitas (rather than ordering from the extensive burger menu). My fish arrived bubbling hot (watch the plate) with a few asparagus spears on a bed of smashed potatoes. Absolutely delicious. I snitched a few pieces of my husband's steak, which I thought was really tender and flavorful, though he did say he had a few chewy bits. He had a lot of fun assembling his fajitas himself just the way he liked them. I had fun watching him have fun! We DID (somehow) save room for dessert, which was the delicious chocolate trifle for him (he said it was amazing) and the flan for me, which was incredibly creamy, light and decadent. I did also order a key lime martini, which was okay, but be aware if you're GF that there are graham cracker crumbs in it. They would have made me another, had I asked. One thing that stood out to me was the friendliness of everyone there - Claire, the owner was there overseeing the evening and is obviously a hard-worker, but did everything with a smile. Our server, the kitchen staff who brought our meals, everyone was pleasant and seemed happy to be there, despite the chaos of large parties and sad, turned-away walk-ins. Once again, if you're going during a busy season PLEASE MAKE RESERVATIONS or you may be disappointed. We knew we would be there right at dinner time on a Friday night during ski and Ice Castle season, so I called on Wednesday for reservations for two. They were closed, but I followed the directions on their voicemail and left a message to be confirmed. Claire did confirm the reservation that evening, and we were good to go for Friday. LOTS of people without reservations were turned away the night we were there, so please call ahead, because you'll really want to try this place. Went there last night with my husband, my mother and toddler. It was kind of busy, but our waiter made sure to be attentive to us and the larger group next to us. Our dinner choices were great. My mom got the Argentine chicken fajita, my husband got an Ethiopian steak, and I got the lamb chops. All means were cooked and seasoned properly and accurate to their respective cultures. I appreciate them not watering it down to appeal to everyone. The drinks (non alcoholic and alcoholic) were great. They seated us in a location towards the back which is great back we had a toddler and weren't sure if he would be loud or disruptive. He wasn't, but I thought that was thoughtful. We just had another great meal at the Gypsy Cafe. I've been to this restaurant many times over the last 10 years or so. I figure its time to give a review. The restaurant was fantastic when the original owners opened up but we stopped going when it switched hands. However over the last couple years, it has made it back to our restaurant list. I've tried the majority of the menu. Here are some of my favorites: Mezza plate for appetizers Falafel for lunchtime Entrees - Curry Duck, Australian spring lamb chop with raspberry chipotle sauce, and the new addition and new favorite dish - ribeye with sweet habanero sauce (if you can handle the heat).
