Cancelled my membership within the 14 days and they still took payment out of my account. Then they told me I should have cancelled few days before if I wanted no payment to go through. Do not recommend. Supposedly sent my refund request to head office. Will find out Monday if I'll get my money back. Most of the bad reviews are not even for this company. They are for a different gym called Spa Lady that used to be in this same building. The new gym, GYMVMT is one of the best I've ever worked out at. They don't nickel and dime you by charging extra on top of your membership for all the things you would want to use. Athletic training / turf zone, included, infra-red sauna, scientifically proven to be better than the stone ones, included, classes included, sessions with a trainer included, body composition tests included, most or all of these things are extra at most gyms. I love that every Wednesday they have a maintenance crew that comes through and fixes all the machines or anything else that needs it so things are always working. I've been to gyms where equipment was broken down and not able to be used for months. This place is also extremely clean. Never seen any place with as many people in and out as this one gym or otherwise that is this clean all the time. The staff are the best part. Everyone is so helpful and friendly it makes it easy to keep coming back. If you want a good gym that gives you the best value for your money I've ever seen, this is the one for you. Also ladies, there is a full ladies gym, not one of those tiny ladies areas some gyms have a full sized club attached. I can't go in as a guy, but have heard all about it from some ladies that are members and it sounds like it's just as good as the co-Ed part I get to use there. Definitely recommend. read more

Newly renovated, spacious, with a huge women's only section (downstairs and mezzanine and two classrooms) and infrared sauna. I love this gym, it's got a very inclusive and diverse clientele, the staff are so helpful and friendly. They also have child care available. It's clean, and the equipment is impeccably maintained. This gym is the worst! I'm stuck with them for a year but every month there is another thing that shows how ridiculously unorganized they are. When I joined I was promised a free fitness consultation, I asked once a week for 8 weeks and no one ever got back to me! I had to go to the other location in order to get it done. This past month they had a fitness challenge where you had to go to the gym 9 times in three weeks. The trainer I had gave me until March 5th, but this gym won't honour it because the challenge ended in February and no one ever told me that. Biggest pet peve ever: some their trainers train people without correcting their clients form. If you're going to be a trainer, you should correct your clients form to prevent injury. I'd also be cautious of their fine print, the withdrawal form you sign says they can change the rates at any time without notifying you to save them time. This gym is the worst and I wish I knew all of this before signing up. Finally, they have the worst hours. What kind of gym is only open from 10-3 on the weekends?? I really wish I did my research before signing up. Oh, but the front desk girls are nice. That's a bonus. read more

The Receptionist I experienced 3 times was the same, couldn't look up from facebook to greet customers, never answered questions or cared about anything. Have been attending the yoga classes with Naoko and the master mobility with Sharon and find them both wonderful. Kudos to both. Both classes have been a benefit to me. Have been a member for about twenty years. I find most of the staff very friendly and helpful. I signed up for a one year term. my membership expired in January 2014, and I thought that would be it. In February Spa Lady took 50.00 and change out of my chequing account. The original price was 25.00 month. Apparently, even once your membership is expired, you get charged monthly until you cancel, in writing to their outsourced accounting company. (I do not know how they got my banking info, as I paid the full year upfront when I signed up, The club itself was mediocre at best, the Spa Lady employees were pleasant to deal with, but not the company that looks after their accounts. (You cannot question or find out any account info through Spa Lady gyms or their offices.) Read the small print on the back of the form. - lesson learned read more

I like this gym. I am mid forties and out of shape. All ages and sizes go to this gym. I signed up for group personal training and have found that often the personal trainers give an encouraging smile if you catch their eye. The ladies in the groups have all been great to work out with and are all levels of fitness. The trainer that I have been working with has been fantastic. The locker room is kept clean and I have seen the GM herself going and checking garbage, toilets and stocking supplies. I haven't used the showers yet. The pricing is a bit cheaper here than the other mainstream gym in town. The cancellation fee is expensive. Make sure you understand the policies before signing. I would recommend this gym. This is a horrible place to work out. Not only is the gym small, cramped and very old, the facilities are disgusting and not kept up to standards. Worse than their facilities are their business practices. I moved to the NW of Calgary, where there are NO SpaLady gyms, yet they refuse to cancel my membership even though I am prepared to pay a cancellation fee ($150). They expect me to drive 30 minutes to the NE location on 52nd street. No thank you. I've also requested several times they confirm that they will NOT renew my membership without my consent yet they refuse to acknowledge my request. The price of the membership is better than most. They treat you well when you come in to take a tour or get a membership. Once they get your money good luck you are invisible. That is unless you sign up for the very over priced personal trainers, most are not experienced. Lots of equipment not usable maintenance is non existent. You can bet at least two to three toilets not working. Not a huge bathroom so this is unacceptable. Try and talk to the staff all you get is I'm sorry and an eye roll when they think you are out of site, total crap. The only reason I am still a member is the price, close to home and I do not need the help as I am familiar with the equipment from previous gyms. They buy a lot of useless equipment and get rid of the popular pieces, makes no sense. Very, bad attitudes, never belonged to a gym before this that does not go the extra mile to know your name or at least smile and say hello, to busy gossiping or playing on their phones. NO NO NO don't do it. DON'T GET INTO A CONTRACT -- with SpaLady or World Health (same company, same tactics). SpaLady is JUST LIKE BIG CELL PHONE COMPANIES... (no wait, cell phone companies with their big contracts at least will negotiate payments, but SpaLady can't give their loyal customers that service. Every other company on the planet pretty much. Except SpaLady). I signed up because the south location was very close to work and staff were nice. Then unexpectedly our project was tanked & I was laid off. I live in NW Calgary, the one quadrant that has no SpaLady and no plans in the works for one either. I cyclecommute and take transit more than drive out of our "green commitment" to do our part, and because my partner is often out of town for work, with the car. The closest location, for me, any way I slice it, is 1.5hrs each way to reach a location via transit. Therefore I can usually only go on weekends. But wait, SpaLady has such short hours ; I've checked -- shorter than ANY OTHER gym in Calgary. As you single moms know, taking kids all over town & work and and and... Being far away from your gym is the killer. I end up paying to drop in to another gym closer to me. So despite other gyms like GoodLife expanding all the time, SpaLady thinks it's OK to operate with only : 3 locations only in a city over 1million + shortest open hours of any gym + completely inflexible cancellation terms (or I need to move 30 km away from the nearest location). PLUS...they advertise "oh we have affliations with other gyms like World Health". False advertising! This means nothing -- I cannot even for a fee transfer into a World Health membership, even though it's owned by the same company. How does this make any sense, for World Health or SpaLady? They should be working together and working out something so that they keep customers instead of alienate them! Wow. Marketing 101. I recently had an arm injury that makes it so very difficult to do any class or workout properly... yes I can modify but it is easier to do this on my own at home; makes it hard to get in to gym also. Whereas -- again -- cell companies actually let you "vacation suspend" or suspend for a period of time (due to your personal circumstances), not SpaLady. They will extend your contract. But they will keep charging you every single month. And you must send a doctor's note in. If it does not have the exact phrasing they are looking for, then it is rejected. The point is, you are still being charged for not being able to use the gym at all. For a medical reason. True compassion. The last kicker is that I am moving to Vancouver -- where SpaLady has ZERO gyms. Well, one gym in Burnaby, I was told. When I asked for Vancouver information, I was given a list of gyms across the province -- i.e. some on Vancouver Island. How does this help me when I will be living in Vancouver?? Again -- a selling point they use -- oh yes, wherever you move in Canada you can transfer your membership! Not. They just forget to mention in Vancouver (such a huge fitness-crazed city ;-) they have only one location (????). How is this possible? So then -- even if I prove I live 30km away from Burnaby, and SpaLady does not extend the service of providing gyms in Vancouver -- even though I provide this, I will still be charged the $150 cancellation fee. RUN PEOPLE RUN far and fast... to any other gym! Better yet just find one that lets you pay month by month. Or join outdoor boot camps ;-) SPA LADY IS NOT WORTH IT. read more

They made a mistake on my biweekly payments charged me double the amount. It took forever to resolve it. I went there to tell them they made a mistake and told me to call their main office which I did, was put on hold for more than 30 min. and told me to return back to the gym because she can't do the changes. I went back to the gym and the manager told me they can't do anything, only the main office can do the changes and suggested I should email them instead! R u kidding me!!!!! I was so mad! I told her to resolve this issue and email the person in charge herself! Poor communication! They made the mistake and they can't even to the work to change it!! they finally made the changes after a month. No sorry or even an email just to tell me how will they resolve this issue! This has the be the best scam out there, they locked me in for two years of contract and when I finally was able to cancel and followed their instructions of sending an email and thinking it was done they never cancelled it!! I have been charged since Feb of this year for a fucking membership that I clearly didn't want and already cancelled as instructed which is THEFT!!! I asked them to refund me the money they have been stealing at this point since I cancelled this already and they refused. Today they said I should have called back to check that it was done even though last year they just said send an email and we will cancel it for you. I never thought I would have to keep my inbox cluttered with old spa lady shit so I deleted my email correspondence last year after a few months and because the billing stopped but that was because I was on a 6 month free period apparently, you should keep everything forever though since they will ROB you blind. Since Feb they have stolen nearly $200 from me and would have kept on if I didn't just notice on my statement. I dealt with a man named Sean who said he was the highest chain in the head office and that no one else could deal with my concerns since he was the boss, terrible company to just steal from people and then tell them it's their fault for believing the representative who said they email would cancel the memebership, how stupid of me to believe them about their own policy right? And his words ringing back that policy now dictated that I couldn't get a refund and have to just cancel AGAIN and what? hope for the best? and that they actually cancel it this time and stop STEALING money from me? This gym has ok classes, lots of machines and is very clean. Not an absolutely stellar gym, but it gets the job done. I had a horrible experience with trying to cancel, however, due to the fact that one of the managers didn't pay attention. Since I am a no contract user, I had to pay $100 up front as a sign up fee, and decided that it was better for me to go to a different gym where the no contract fee was $50 instead. I texted the manager indicating that I wanted to cancel, and she went ahead and told me that she cancelled it for me. Fast forward to my bill where they charged me the $100, and I go in asking why they did that if the manager had already cancelled for me. She read a text wrong and thought that I had cancelled, and because of her mistake I had to pay $100 for a gym I really had no intention going to. You are the MANAGER. A little attention to detail would be nice, but now I'm out $100 for a mistake I didn't even make. read more
