This gym is only interested in making money out of their customers and that is the end of it. The gym follows unfair business practices, their sales/service representatives are only their to lure you to sign up for their memberships. I went to the gym to avail the Black Friday deal that they offered one of my friend and because it was close to where I live. The person first told me that they don't have the same deal and offered me another deal which made me pay more. I told the guy that my friend was told it is still available and left the gym without signing the contract. I got a call from the gym during Box Day and told that a similar deal is now available but when I went to the gym at first they said that the deal has ended and then when I told them I got a call from the gym they reluctantly gave me a deal which was close to the original deal but still made me pay more. The guy told me it is a one year contract and after one year I can cancel the contract or it will auto renew. After I joined the gym I realized it was not Gold Standard as advertised. The equipment were old and frequently out of service. The personal training session were too costly and the locker rooms where dirty. So after one year and before my renewal I asked the gym to cancel my membership and I was told I still have to pay for another year of annual membership fees and any payment falling in 30 days which technically meant 3 bi-weekly payments. Even after telling the gym that it made no sense for me to pay to annual membership when I am informing you before my renewal date. At this the gym told me that I had signed a contract which says that I need to inform them 30 days in advance and refused to pay me back my money. Please don't go by the marketing campaigns and join another gym that gives you better value for your money. read more

If I could rate it a zero star I would. A girl named Maria was working at the front desk and was one of the rudest people I've ever met. I don't know if she was having a terrible day or something but I was shocked that she would be working in customer service. There was another girl that was relatively short with dark curly hair that was didn't provide good service either was pretty snarky. This place does not even deserve 1 star. At one point the Manager was selling steroids to the members as well as the personal trainers. Let that sink in for a moment. Signed up for a membership that has been impossible to cancel. They are purposely extending my cancellation date without permission or consent even tho in our written contract it states the membership ends on February. I have been trying to cancel since November but they either ignore your messages or say someone will get back to you. We are almost at the end of February now and still no luck. They want a $200 cancellation fee for something that they illegally extended with no notice to the members. How is that a normal workplace practise? This business will crash and burn. At first I was extremely reluctant to sign up as I have heard plenty of horror stories of franchise gyms acting like hucksters but at the time my home gym options were limited. The gym itself is decent,staff is nice,but the billing department is shady. While under provincial orders to remain closed, Golds charged my credit card 4 times,and would have kept charging had I not told them to stop billing me. I had hoped they would do the decent thing and refund me for time not used but they would rather have my 93 dollars than my buisness as a customer,despite me paying every month on time. I could understand if I choose not to go, but I was literally locked out. Buyer beware, this company will take you for everything they can at any opportunity they can. I was signing up online membership on there website, good thing it didn't work out even how many tries I tried. And then I went in person to this location and complaining about registering online. So, they let me in for a trial of the gym. My experience wasn't very good, I didn't expect that Gold's gym, which is very known gym worldwide would be like this! Filthy locker rooms, a lot of gym equipments not working properly, it's like almost every equipment I tried are not in good condition. Well, this is not what I am expecting from Gold's Gym. Good luck cancelling your contract... I moved too far away to make coming here a regular thing so I've been trying to cancel my membership. First off, the kid who signed me up was cheeky and set up auto renewal of my contract without telling or offering me not too. Second, it's been impossible to cancel my contract. I sent an email over 3 months ago saying to cancel it and they said it would be done in 3-4 weeks. 3 months later I just got more money taken out of my account today for this. Now it's saying I need to send a letter to Arizona of all places.... seriously Gold's what the $&@(.... I loved my time with them and liked the gym but this all has made me so sour about the whole experience. Seriously, screw you guys. read more

This place has become a dump. The machines are often broken and take a while to get fixed. The bathrooms are filthy and I won't even use the showers cuz of the mold everywhere. Plus the owner struts around the gym while his fancy cars are parked in the handicapped spot (he's not handicapped). I can't wait until my contract is done so I can get the F out. Full disclosure, I'm one of those guys with a gym membership that rarely goes. Lately, never. My fiance & I signed up with Gold's during a Valentine's Day promotion a few years ago. It's been great for my fiance, who goes several times a week and recently started instructing. For me, it's always great when I go, but I lack the motivation to keep going. I've been to this location and the Northland location several times. I much prefer this location. I can't explain it, but the other location feels very elitist to me. This location has about what you would expect from a Gold's Gym. It has machines for working out on, a basketball court/classroom, showers, a food/beverage station and a woman's only area. It also has a pretty elaborate martial-arts area and routinely holds MMA and other martial art classes. I've never had any problems with the staff and the clientele is pretty laid back too. No loud grunting or anything silly like that going on from my experience. The classes they hold, and to which my fiance instructs some of, are really quite good. The only problem is knowing the schedule. They rarely update their website and the current schedule listed is from July. They are a 24 hour gym, which is convenient, but they are not a true 24 hour gym. Although advertised as being 24 hour, the gym is only 24 hours Monday-Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, they are open 8-8. Not a big deal, but important if you were planning a visit after leaving the bar on a Saturday. The locker rooms are usually very clean, and apparently have some security. Now this may or may not sit well, but their locker rooms do have cameras. Whether they are working or not, I don't know and don't really want to know. But I imagine it would come in handy if something was stolen. If you're interested in checking it out, you can get a one day VIP membership from their website. Almost forgot, new addition to the gym that I love. Their new treadmills, installed a few months ago, have iPod/iPhone hookups on them. It allows you to listen to your music through the treadmill, which is handy if you want to switch back and forth between tv and music. If you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, it will play any videos you have onto the treadmill's screen. read more

I've walked past Gold's Gym many times and not once did I ever think about stepping in. It looked to gym prestigious to me. However I landed upon a 1 month free membership and thought I would check it out. When I stepped in I was blown away by the equipment they carry. High tech treadmills, bicycles, stair masters, ellipticals, and all sorts of machines to work out every single muscle in your body. I also liked that they had a mini basketball court, a sauna room and a stocked cafe at the front entrance. Plus it was nice that their locker rooms were super tidy and didn't smell bad. The only negative thing for me in that gym is that I wish they had a bigger area for stretching/core exercising. Also, I don't see why it's necessary for some of the girls at the front desk to have half their breast popping out of their shirts and also no knowledge of the way things work around the gym. Tried the 7 day free pass - was immediately asked to sign up for 50$/m yearly membership with 1 month free offered - hadn't even tried the gym yet. I found golds had all the equipment I wanted, and wasn't over crowded, even at prime times - it was kind of dark, and dirty feeling though , with a lot of damaged cardio equipment - so in my opinion , overpriced for my needs and taste. There were a lot of people there who really looked like they knew what they were doing - lots of free weights , cardio machines, weight machines, cable decks, etc - even a punching bag area and boxing area and showers and sauna - a shop with supplements and shakes too. The prices weren't posted, and when I asked beyond the first person who tried to sell me the 50$/m I was told if they aren't sales, they can't even give me guidance on typical pricing , so I felt like something fishy was going on - no one asked me if I enjoyed my trial or followed up with me after - I went back to my old gym, crowded, but bright, cheaper, and they say hi when they see me. read more

Equipment and hours are good, but staff are pretty useless when it comes to membership issues/changes. Northgate staff refer you to the Country Hills location. There they never answer the phone. You leave messages and it takes days for them to get back to you, if they ever do. The Country Hills staff contradict what you were told by the Northgate staff, and they are very limited in trying to accommodate you. I got a platinum membership for two years with special extra privileges, but halfway through the two-year term, they suddenly revoked some e.g. no free water bottles, with no reduction in price. read more

Open during A Global pandemic, also got locked into a contract for a year because they forgot to cancel a previous membership and claimed I owed them 2000 dollars in fee's. I recently joined this facility and had my first free "Personal Training" session with an instructor called "Adam" It was a bit disappointment since Adam just took the basic details and didn't give any insides. It seems he wanted to just rush the process and get it done so we can buy classes to actually learn something. The men's washroom are clogging and filthy sometimes, the lockers are dirty too. I will never step into this establishment, the sales guys are very rude and arrogant, they use reverse psychology to get you in. My roommate also goes there, he said he is stuck with the member ship and he wants to just quit. They need 114$ for month to month no contract. Try calling there and say that you only want month to month membership, then tell the man you don't want to give out your name just yet, just watch what will happen- the guy will rudely hang up on you. They use it as an effect to make you call back again, so you can buy an year membership. This is the same effect some dirty women use to get guys attention, but they are using it to hurt the man ego, so he can buy a overpriced membership. Luckly, i knew this trick. I would give this gym MINUS stars If I could. Facility used to be alright back in 2010 (one location - Marlborough) but the management was shit then and is shit still. The owners (Higher management) literally do not give a F*** about anything but money. They continue to open additional locations only to screw more people up. I have been trying to cancel my membership for 4 months now and that is while NOT BEING IN CONTRACT. They extend agreements/ contracts without notice; they take additional fees without any notice or time; and even if you want to cancel after the obligation term is over, they ask cancellation fee of $200. They continue to take money and never answer/return calls. Emails are ignored. Front staff is so inconsistent and rude - they do not have any information if you drop in to talk to someone about it. It seems like this gym literally is just in business to suck money from anyone and anything. As for facilities - it is not any better - majority of their cardio machines are broken with an "out of order" sign on it for days and months in a row. They do not bother fix machines despite being reminded, which sucks because in 'ladies only' area, they only have 1-2 cardio machines to begin with. This gym is a fraud!! DO NOT GO TO GOLDS GYM!! I'm personally a member of planet fitness and I am very pleased with them. If I had a choice in Calgary which I did not due to no facility. I'd gladly choose planet fitness every time. This location is the absolute worst gym I have ever joined. About 3 1/2 years ago my husband and I signed a 3 year contract with them and bought their ridiculous towel service...not lugging around wet friggin' towels. I started going immediately about 3 - 4 times/week. Virtually EVERY time I went there either the ladies steam-room ( an integral part for me! ) was out of order or they were out of towels. I did mention I PAY MONEY every month for towels??? No towels available? Then take my $10.00 that I pay monthly and run across to Walmart and get some towels!! Anyhow...3 years is up and Gold's decides that they will still charge me and continue on my contract with them on a month by month basis. Okay. Then we decide to cancel. That is when this gym became a cyst on the ass of life. I am told by "Napoléon" (his name is really Phil) the front desk manager that I must send my cancellation by registered mail. We do...both cancellations arrive...are processed and we think all is fixed. No. Mine is cancelled but my husband's is not. They say they didn't get his cancellation. Strange because they were both in the same envelope and the same sheet of paper...hmmm. Sounds a bit fishy... Anyhow, been waiting and still paying hubby's membership fees since November 15th. Brutal. On a side note...some of the trainers were great. Friendly and helpful but not worth the hassle of joining because of the poor customer service at the front desk. read more

Just received a text from them to come try it out ! I called in response to the texts and the guy on the phone today replied this is a landline and giggle and said byeeee. And I called the text number Again and the same guy was like "look if ya wanna come try it out I'll set up an appointment " I said Put someone on the phone that can explain to me , the high activation fees and high early cancellation fees, during covid ' ! Then he told me yes it's $200 activation fee I'll never see again and another $200 early cancellation fee. So I told him forget it . These fees should be forgotten during covid as other gyms waive and lowered all theirs . Which reopen next week . To say the least , very bad attitude and I'm not even a member nor have I ever been . So I had opted out of the text as an option and they still texted me back , so I complained over text as well. Hi!! I'm only writing this review to thank everyone for letting the public know about Gold's management and cleanliness. After reading many reviews on Google and yelp, I bailed on meeting with a representative. it sounds like pushy sales and contract nightmares. A lot of reviews kept mentioning the washrooms being disgusting and damaged equipment; plus some rude staff. I found it strange; when I inquired about a membership at the gym I had to be directed to a "sales" person, which I felt was fishy. Usually tactics like that are associated with high pressure sales, but thought I would still check it out,". After a google review, my instincts were right, they are high pressure sales and nightmare contracts. Most gyms I went to, had their pricing right up front, and all the staff are well informed (nothing to hide) so your not waiting for a "sales associate." Anything extra usually I was directed to someone if I wanted extra training . So yeah red flags from the get go!! Thanks everyone, you saved my pocket book!! read more

Worst experience at a gym EVER. The staff are rude and never know the answer to any questions. I signed a ONE YEAR membership TWO YEARS ago and I'm still locked into a contract... I've been trying to cancel now for 6 months and they keep telling me to be "patient".... Well... For $70 bucks a month it's a little hard to be patient anymore. Lost banking info. Front desk manager was extremely rude and hostile when inquiring about the lost bank info. Breach contracts made with them, blaming it on their system. A little too busy and noisy for me. Hard to get equipment so went to women's only and didn't have hardly anything in the small square of a room. All cable equipment in the women's only was broken. So ventured back to main populated area which can be very intimidating for even experienced gym goers. Had to cut my visit short cause I was wasting too much time waiting. Just not for me. read more

My experience at Golds Gym Northgate was in one word - unprofessional. There were three things that caused me to transfer my membership that I signed up for early January 2014. 1 - When I signed up to Golds I was a student, and they offered me a student rate. At 45$ a month I would have access to everything the gym offers. After talking to the sales lady who actually happens to own the gym, I tried to use of the of services Golds offered - Tanning. But in actuality I did not get free tanning with my membership like I was told, I had to pay for it. So I purchased tanning which is SEVERELY overpriced. The cheapest one was 20$ a month for a year contract. So that's 20$ more than my actual membership just for tanning. A friend of mine signed up, and she told me that she was offered a month of free tanning from her salesman. So I went in there and asked about it because it seamed weird that only some of their clients were offered free trials and not others. It just felt really inconsistent and fell short of my expectations. I complained and got a free month of tanning, but now I am still stuck in a year tanning contract. 2 - When I was talking to the sales lady (named Veronica) who owns the gym, she offered me child care. Apparently when you go to work out they have a child care facility that has babysitters you can pay for so you dont have to struggle with booking one for yourself while you work out. But when I walked by the child care facility it was a gutted room that had a sign saying "As of November 2013 we will no longer offer child care." Sound weird? So child care was not available for almost three months when she offered it to me. That's false advertising. Unprofessional? I think yes. 3 - The womens only section is dingy, just like the rest of the gym. And a lot of the machines don't even work. They offer free wifi but it's painfully slow and never worked for me. And the locker rooms are DISGUSTING. There's no privacy in the showers and dont even get me started on the steam room. I dont even want to step on those floors. The last straw for me was when my locker was broken into and my wallet was stolen along with some jewellery. That's when I decided enough was enough and I wanted to make a complaint about my experience to the owner. I approached Veronica with my concerns and she was not a good listener at all. She interrupted me and denied what I said about her offering me child care. How would I even know that they offered child care right off the bat if she didnt tell me? She denied what I was saying and really wasnt helpful at all. She didnt give me an attitude of caring or customer service at all. She actually came off as money hungry. The worst thing about this is that even with all the bad experiences, I still had to either 1- transfer my membership, or 2- cancel it. Which has a 200$ (before tax) cancellation fee, and to do that I had to call a bunch of numbers that were listed on my contract and then still wait three months for my cancellation to go through. So that's a 200$ fee and then you still have to wait and pay for three months of membership fees for it to be cancelled. OH, and there's also a 100$ sign up fee and 50$ annual fee. Overall, this gym is a money grab. Their facility is dingy and not taken care of properly. And the owners have less than expected customer service skills. I recently joined this gym wanting to get back in shape. I didn't like the way the salesman handled signing me up. I signed up for platinum membership which is what I wanted but he told me he's computer wasn't working properly it kept flashing black so he couldn't show me all the paper work. He told me when I asked him if I was month to month that I had to sign up for a year which was fine with me but when I was emailed my contract it said I signed up for 36 months I really don't like being lied too. I'll be finishing my year and after that I will be cancelling my contract I also will not be telling anyone to come to this gym quite to opposite I'll be telling them to avoid this gym as they use tricks to line their pockets. I have registered to this gym just yesterday did not even used any of your services and when I asked the next day to cancel my registration the said I have to pay $200 for cancellation what the f*. I asked abt the cancellation fees on the day of registration and they said there is no charge. The sales people lied to me said pay $25 and come for 2 weeks free trial and now u guys don't want to give my $25 back and even don't want to let me come for 2 week to guys.
