I love this store ! This store is a heaven for those who used to love to "play school " as a child . There's everything you can imagine for your classroom here. The staff is friendly, helpful and cheerful. The staff definitely make the shopping experience that much better . There's so much to choose from here! I just wanted to say that I visited this store on 2/10/25 to purchase some bulletin board posters and boarders for my Sunday School classroom and I was amazed the wide variety of things they have to offer. However you want to decorate a classroom, trust me they have it. I completed my entire shopping list and even picked up some things that I didn't know I needed. I was surprised of their Christian section as well. The prices are reasonable and they had a lot of things on clearance as well. I admired the fact that the clearance items are mixed in with the regular price items, this way one person doesn't take everything when it's displayed in one section, everyone gets a chance to save depending on what you need and what section it's in, clearance is all over the store. I returned to the store today on 2/11/25 when I noticed they have a large machine to laminate posters and colorful cut outs to help save on wear and tear of your purchase and the price was outstanding. To laminate something is $1.00 per yard that is cheap considering I was at FedEx and they charge over $4.00 per yard. So glad GW School Supplies thinks about your pocket book and last but not least the staff is simply amazing and friendly. My only desire is that I wish they were a little closer in town instead of being out by Brimhall but for the prices, I can't complain it's worth the drive. read more

This is literally the only school supply store in town. I remember coming here for stuff as a kid. Im glad to see a local business doing well, years and years later. I look forward to shopping here for many years to come for my little girls. They have everything here when it comes to setting up a classroom, everything for science projects, workbooks for all grade levels, many craft products, just everything you can imagine. I came in for some wooden puzzles by Melissa and Doug brand and they had them. A great selection of them also. I also got 2 packs of flash cards and a pre k workbook for my baby girl. I have been coming to GW for 10 years now as I am a teacher. I have always had pleasant experiences with the store and staff, and have enjoyed purchasing my teacher items here. On my last visit, during Aug 2018, I spent $150 worth of items and received $15 GW cash as a result. I went back several weeks later (last week of Aug) to use my GW bucks. I was told they could not be used until September. I was highly disappointed, and quite honestly, extremely dissatisfied with a store telling me WHEN and HOW I was able to use this. GW, you had no problem taking my $150, but when I chose to use your "coupons," you decline me? Why would I need to purchase teacher supplies in September? This makes one think you are banking on the fact that most teachers will forget about using your coupon because 90% of their rooms are set up at this point. I will no longer shop here. I will purchase my items elsewhere. When there are so many more convenient ways to shop these days, I would have thought your strategies would have been more conducive to actually attracting, and maintaining, your loyal customers. This is the only real school supply store left in Bakersfield. It has a pretty good selection of items needed by teachers - both public and private to use with students from preschool age through high school. There are also many materials parents can use to work with their children at home, The merchandise is attractively displayed and arranged so that things be easily located with their signage. I come here often and always find what I need. read more

I remember coming here years ago when my kids were in school. I live close by, and now I come for construction paper, felt, other materials for some crafts projects. It is much smaller and easier to get around than Hobby Lobby and I find it refreshing that there are not bible verses every where I turn. read more

Mama was wrong when she said Disneyland was the happiest place on Earth. This place is. If you work with kids this is really the only supply store in town; which is sad since we are home to one of the biggest school districts in all of California (you hear that Lakeshore, you hear that IKEA and The Container Store?!) Charts, posters, paper, teacher supplies, student incentives, tape for every wall type, smelly ink pads, books, teacher jewelry and hand bags. Name tags, magnets, heavy duty this, removable that! Themed teachers could get there entire classroom set up in one trip to this store. Jungle theme? They got it. Bee theme? Yep! Animal print? Of course Credit card debt? YOU DO NOW! And that is why they lose a star. I'm a teacher, not a lawyer, doctor or scientist. I'm poor and this store is EXPENSIVE! I went because I had gift cards but my advice to teachers? Make a list of what you need and buy online for 1/2 the price at least! You'll thank me. One small bag of essentials and $71 later...uh....BYE FELICIA. read more

I absolutely love this place! It has a variety of unique items that I haven't seen anywhere else. Some of my regular purchases are stickers, prizes, little rubber toys (e.g. vehicles and jungle items, and borders). Staff is polite and great at helping me find items. The only downside is that many of the items are a little pricey, but it's worth it to have such a wide variety in one place. read more

Bought a poster board here for $5.99 and apparently Walmart had the same board for $1.77. So nope not coming here again. But they do have pretty much everything for school read more
