Having just come back from Colombia, both my partner and I were experiencing a case of post-vacation blues so, in an attempt to cheer ourselves up, we decided to go to the movies.
On our way, we passed by Gustapan. At first glance, it looked like any other bakery (I actually thought it was a Paradiso), but when we walked in, we automatically felt that Caribbean warmth we were missing so much (or it might have been the heater...) Regardless, as soon as we heard the Colombian accents (everyone behind the counter seemed to be from Colombia as well as their client's sitting at the "bar" ) and saw the delicious baked goods (most of what they offer had cheese either in it or on top of it) we knew we had just stumbled upon our new favorite bakery.
Their buñuelos (balls of warm, toasted cheese bread) were tasty and they even had the Colombian ají to go with it!
They have all different types of delicious breads as well, such as "pana a la hawaiana" which seemed to be the favorite of all the Colombian patrons.
I recommend buying one of their small loaves of cheesy bread. It is somewhat sweet with a texture like challah and is filled with cheesy goodness. read more
