Located just a few blocks from Restaurant Pelikan and embodying the same old school sensibilities that have withstood the test of time it was before much needed rest that a stop was made at Gunnarson's Specialkonditori, the two-story storefront at Götgatan 92 offering one of Stockholm's largest collections of confections at a price slightly higher than most, though the product quality is universally quite high. Open daily since the 1940's for Fika and Coffee, both floors offering seating but only the upstairs featuring table service, guests entering Gunnarson's will immediately be taken by the vast expanse of options laid out both inside and atop cases with decorative Pretzels hanging overhead, samples of freshly baked Bread available to pass the time while perusing. Not a safe place for the indecisive or gluttonous, the sheer volume of eye-catching Fika enough to compel a sizeable order even when one has just eaten, it was with several desirable items left behind that an order of seven was boxed and bagged for 270 SEK, the products ported across town for consumption with first bites of the Princess Cake a dramatic upgrade from Vete-Katten in terms of levity, texture and sweetness. Moving next to a particularly spicy Cardamom Roll, the springy Dough baked golden but fluffy within, it was with this base made creamy by poached Rhubarb that Gunnarson's further impressed before briefly taking a step back in an overly-crumbly Tosca, the mixed-nut Notknappare faring far better as the caramelized Brown Sugar penetrated deeply adding moisture. Rounding out the order with two fruit-filled Fika, the classic Katalan nicely balancing tart Raspberry Jam with sugared Frosting, it was again in a seasonal special that Gunnarson's shined brightest, the Blueberry-studded Blabars Mazarin not unlike a French Financier with the Almond Flour base toothsome and dense yet soft and delicate. read more

This place is so awful that I had to give it 5 stars. I worked very hard to drop weight before my vacation to Sweden and thanks to Gunnarsons, I may have gained some of it back. I made the mistake of walking into Gunnarsons early in my trip and I have not been able to go a day without their coffee and pastries. OMG, this place is either heavenly or built by the devil himself If you like Pistachios, then you have to try their Picasso which is green pistachio cake with pineapple covered in a candied pistachio shell. When visiting Stockholm, this will definitely be a place I must return. Until then, I will need to walk many miles to make sure that I am ready. read more

My group of friends and I were in town for a hockey game, and decided to roam the streets for a bite to eat. We came across this place, and spotted the lovely pastries in the window. Everyone ordered at the counter and we made our way to the upstairs seating. Its a cute little place, and the staff was very patient with us while we decided what we wanted. They have everything from cupcakes to cookies to bread to snack sandwiches and even light salads. You can have coffee or a soda or tea. A great "Coffee" shop. I'd come back here again. It reminded me of going to Solvang, CA, only its Swedish, not Danish. read more

Love the place, it is not so close to us but for certain things, we always go there. They have my favorate Semla, I tried many others but this one is the best for me. Another favorite is the Lördagsbröd or Matbröd, it makes a great snack with some olive oil or Tapade. read more

Very friendly staff. Being the foreigner, I had questions about everything, and they were more than happy to explain. Only in Stockholm for a few nights and I've been in twice. The first, for a Tosca to have my first Fika. The second, I had dinner. A chicken a la king quiche with salad and coffee. My friend and I topped it off with a cinnamon bun and princess cake. Got to go with the traditional Swedish treats when dining in Sweden, no? Everything was reasonably priced and delicious. If I'm ever back in Stockholm again, I will return. read more

For a party of two it was quite easy to find seating on street level om a Friday afternoon. But it is cramped! Upstairs more room but not so cozy. Downstairs (street level) you take a ticket and wait for your turn. Hardly no waiting time. Order your to sit or to go. Regular coffee or tea - serve yourself. For other coffee drinks order here and pick it up upstairs. We had the Swedish delicasy SEMLA. It is quite good but the almond creme and whipped cream fell off! Like it was sweating. Impossible to eat without spoon or fork :( Coffee was ok, like any lunch place with heated coffee you know. I am not impressed. read more

This is no doubt one of Stockholm's best bakeries, and likely also the most pricey. I normally have to triple what I would think is a reasonable price and then I land at about what they'll charge me! But if you are going for a treat, this is still where I would go for sweets. All traditional baked goodies can be found here and they are made with butter and no nonsense. During the year they also offer seasonal specialties such as Gustaf Adolf pastry, Napoleon pasty etc. Lunch is a cozy deal for rainy days. It includes various sorts of their freshly baked bread and a small desert treat. For breakfast however I would rather recommend the cheaper neighbor of Åsöbageriet. read more

My wife and I stumbled upon this gem of a cafe one day as we were strolling the streets of Södermalm. Gunnarsons doesn't look like much from the outside, it looks like a traditional cafe pushing the limits on becoming way out dated, However, the bread and pastry display to the right of the storefront entrance is absolutely beautiful! Who cares if the chairs and tables look like they're from some old lady's house, people come here because Gunnarsons knows how to make some delicious pastries! The prices here a little steep, but well worth the price! I've been here many times since my first and each visit has left me longing for the next. The semla I had was one of the best, with plenty of almond filling. Please, do yourselves a favor when in Stockholm and eat at Gunnarsons. read more
