Clearly, my family and I went to an alternate version of this otherwise crazily highly rated cafe.
Blech. Blech. Perhaps a late lunch is not this cafe's best time, but all five of us were very sorely disappointed by quality (or lack thereof).
Husband had the cod in a caviar cream sauce with potatoes and could only eat two bites. He was gagging while eating it. It was a very odd looking cut of fish from my perspective, very stringy and muscular looking, cut at an odd angle. I really have never seen fish that looks like this before and the smell was so off putting I could not bring myself to taste it. As is the Swedish cheap eats style, slathered in an enormous amount of creme fraiche/mayo/glop. Potatoes undercooked and bland.
I got the lentil soup which tasted like cream and curry, not lentils. It was a puree. Perhaps there were lentils in this pureed treat. I admit it tasted ok, but I asked my family if my teeth had turned yellow from the brightness of the soup and the pungent level of curry. There was a slab of dough with cheese on the side and an orange slice. By far the orange slice was the best part of my meal.
The three junior pizza lovers each got a different type of pizza and each could not finish their food. Yes, they were big servings, but these were not the most appetizing looking (or apparently most delicious) pizzas in town. All three were unable to eat much of their pizza, because each pizza was dripping with grease but undercooked. Middle child was sick and vomiting within 2 hours after lunch.
The cashier/hostess was very nice. The "chef" who was right in front of us, never got off of his phone, yelling and hollering as he made the three pizzas. Lord knows what anger and gossip went into those pizza pies.
About 900 Swedish kroner for a very, very sorry lunch. It is a rare thing for me to say it, but I apologized to husband and children that I had discouraged them from going to the Micky D's around the corner. I know all five of us would have had a cleaner, more nutritious, better meal than this wretched slop. read more
