History
Established in 1983.
John W. Gunn Consultants Incorporated was founded in 1983 as an engineering consulting firm specializing in elevators, escalators, moving walks, and other methods of vertical transportation. The firm is wholly independent, with no ties to any contractor or equipment manufacturer. The company is owned and managed by Eric Peterson, P.Eng.
Our current staff of six consultants has more than 90 years combined experience in the elevator industry. Our firm offers the services of Professional Engineers, elevator mechanics, and elevator adjusters. Our firm carries both professional and general liability insurance and is in good standing with the Workers Compensation Board.
Since its inception, the company has been involved in more than 3,000 projects of varying scope and size. The types of projects we are consulted on fall under the following categories:

Meet the Business Owner: Eric P.
Eric joined GUNN Consultants Inc. in August of 1998. He is the managing partner and is responsible for all aspects of the daily operations of the business, including inspections, modernization review, equipment and maintenance specifications, traffic studies, bid review and recommendation, drawing review, and contract negotiation.
Eric's experience with elevators started with his position as an elevator installer at Dover Elevator Co. in 1991 and 1992. Shortly after graduating from Lakehead University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1994, Eric began working in the engineering consulting industry. His consulting experience has included cost estimating, mechanical system engineering, and design supervision.
Eric is a registered Professional Engineer and a member of the Association of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta, and Professional Engineers Ontario.
