We've taken our dogs to Gunbarrel Vet for 22 years now, and think the world of them. They truly love animals and give excellent care. Some folks spend fortunes on their animals--$12K joint replacements for dogs near the end of their lifespans, for example. The vets here have been very understanding when I've asked about costs or explained that we can't afford extraordinary care. They're always willing to tell us the pros and cons of tests, various treatment options, what can wait, and what needs to be done now. We love Dr. Gustafson, but when he's not available we have seen other vets, and loved them all. Thank you Gunbarrel Vet!

Blood from my dog at pickup in their lobby.

DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE. THEY LITERALLY HANDED MY DOG BACK BLEEDING PROFUSELY. Dropped my dogs off for a weekend stay here and when I returned they tried handing me my dog out the door, and quickly closing it leaving me outside. I was soon covered in blood and realized my Great Dane's tale was gushing blood. I knocked on the door, concerned, and asked why they would give me my dog back bleeding and asked if they could please wrap the wound up. Without even an apology they told me if I wanted it wrapped they would have to charge me, I said okay not really having a choice at this point and they took my dog into the back again to wrap the wound. When she came back and saw my clothes, their hallway, and entrance covered in blood, I asked if I needed to pay for the wrap and she said no it was fine. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, SEE PHOTOS. Updated to respond to their response: The dog came to you with a mild case of happy tail in the form of some redness and irritation, he left with, in your own words "a very extreme case of happy tail" in the form of open sores and bleeding wounds. You were informed about the issue before I booked and given the piece of pool noodle, plenty of extra no-chew wrap, bandages, disinfectant and tape which you chose not to use (since none was used and it was returned to me), and instructed both verbally and in writing on the intake forms to keep it on the entire time which your staff promised me they would do in order to prevent it from getting worse when he was in the kennel. He was dropped off with his tail wrapped and pool noodle attached after having it inspected, cleaned, and wrapped by my vet at his office right before I dropped him off. The pool noodle was returned in the bag with no signs of chewing or being torn off, in fact it looks to me like it was cut off and removed as all of the tape has clean cuts and not rough rips or bite marks. Also, it is still covered in the same purple tape my vet used to attach it before dropping him off, indicating to me that no attempt was ever made to re-attach the pool noodle if my dog had in fact managed to remove it from himself. I appreciate your attempt to explain the care and attention you claim he was given now that I've left this review but all I know is what I saw and experienced which was my dog being handed to me bleeding with no bandage or protection on the tail and no explanation at time of pickup. Your staff handed him to me on his leash at the entrance door, not even in the lobby, and then closed and locked the door without saying anything about any of this. Regardless of what you did or didn't do while he was in your care, there is never an excuse for a veterinary clinic or boarding facility to return someone's dog to them actively bleeding which is exactly what I experienced today at your facility. Ive also now added a photo of the lady who wrote the response ignoring me and staring at her computer while I stood there covered in my dogs blood. This would have been the appropriate time to explain some of this to me, offer me a napkin, and/or apologize.

Auggie at Gunbarrel Vet - 8 weeks to 1 year. Thanks Dr. Vale and Dr. Gustafson for helping me keep Auggie healthy and happy as he ages!

Dr. Vale and Dr. Gustafson are the best vets at Gunbarrel! I have been taking my Shiloh Shepherd, Auggie, to those two ever since I brought him home. Gunbarrel Vet is really great if you're using either of Vale or Gustafson - I happily schedule with either, it just depends on availability. Ever since getting my own dog (over two years ago) and using Dr. Vale and Dr. Gustafson for his veterinary care, my parents now specifically request those two for their dogs as well. I take Auggie in for weigh ins and the people working the front desk are always willing to give Auggie treats I bring in for him to help make it a positive experience. Occasionally, the front desk people don't acknowledge us at all but that is more rare than not and when we go in to weigh him we're only there for a couple minutes. Many of the front desk people recognize Auggie which is nice of them but it's never an offense when they don't.

Poor urine test follow up. Expensive. Spaced out female DVM. Front desk staff not professional. Will look for another vet.

My dog has a special need, and I stated that from the beginning. Kyle decided 30 days later shortly after she got hurt that they couldn't accommodate to her. Bowhaus did start an open claim with their insurance company. Kyle received the orthopedic vet exam report and he had the audacity to tell me there was nothing wrong with my dog per his own observation. It was very dismissive and he basically disregarded the exam/ x-rays that was performed by one of Colorados top vet orthopedic hospital. Kyle is not a vet or anything close to it he openly admits. I sent him a video of her limping then he stops emailing me or return my calls. Their insurance company is a joke. Out of nowhere the claim adjuster started raising her voice, cutting me off and then hung up on me. I called two different times requesting to speak to Kyle after speaking to the insurance agent. Even stating to his staff to give him a memo of the urgency of the reason of why he needs to call or I would report Bowhaus Boulder to CDA for PACFA violations of Duty of care. Of course, ultimately Kyle never got back to me.
