When one hears the word "gumbo," our thoughts immediately go to New Orleans, Mardi Gras, and festive times in the South. Its a spicy stew that derives its influences from a variety of cultures, including the French and the Choctaw Indians. It involves combining a mixture of meats and vegetables in a thick soup. When served with rice, this makes a hearty and affordable meal that can feed many people. I had the luck to try another kind of Gumbo - audio gumbo, in the form the jubilant sounds of Gumbo Entertainment. At two different functions I attended recently, the music provided was handled exclusively by Gumbo. The harmonies selected were a nouveau hybrid of old school soul, current pop music, and a few tried-and-true classics. Gladys Knight may have made a cameo, too. At both events (one party, one wedding), the dance floor was filled with lively souls, slow dancing to melodic ballads, or gyrating to faster rhythms. Even those sitting at tables couldn't help but tap their feet to the strains of the music. Like a traditional gumbo, these DJs take various compositions and make a phonic feast for the spirit. They also provide Emcee services as well. If you are in need of good music for an event, I would highly suggest having Gumbo satiate the tastes of your guests. read more

DJ Corey was great!!! My husband and I weren't that big on music so we felt kind of lost when it came to picking out songs for our wedding. But when we had our first meeting with Corey, he REALLY put our minds at ease. It really wasn't as complicated as I thought! He just asked us what kind of music we were into and told us that we could send him a list of songs that we do want to have played, and he would take care of the rest. On the day of the wedding, we were VERY happy with the selection. The only thing I wasn't THAT happy with was that he played "Love and Marriage" from Married with Children when we first down at reception. I like the show a lot but it just threw me off guard. So not only is Corey awesome at DJing, but he also did a great job helping out our photographers in coordinating pictures. He would be on the mic telling people to get together in one section, for example. And he did a great job announcing when the different events started, etc. Overall, we loved Corey and he has such great energy and always puts a smile on your face. read more

My husband and I are big music lovers and we wanted our wedding reception to be a party, so picking a DJ was a daunting task for us, it didn't help that my husband DJ'd through college and still does as a favor for close friends. We first met with Corey a few months before the wedding and after the meeting we looked at each other and agreed we had found our DJ he was very attentive to our vision of what we wanted the wedding to be like he asked a lot of questions and had great suggestions for us....my husband gave Corey some suggestions and he ran with it. We had a very diverse group at our wedding and he somehow catered to everybody, the dance floor was ALWAYS packed....ours friends are sill talking about how good the music was and how much fun they had dancing, as you all know, music will make or break a party, Corey definitely brought his A game and made the party a blast. Thank you Corey, you Rock!! read more

Gumbo Entertainment was the absolute BEST DJ for our wedding this past September. Todd was EXTREMELY professional, responsive, kind and truly listened to all of our requirements. I have to admit I was extremely picky on a DJ. We wanted someone who not only brought the crowd together but listened when we said no cheesy music. We even gave Todd a list of songs we wanted played and songs we didn't want played. He, without hesitation, played all of our songs and kept the do not play list nowhere near the dance floor. We could not have asked for a better DJ. I truly recommend everyone to use Gumbo Entertainment. They work with what you want and I guarantee that you will NOT be disappointed. Thanks again Gumbo Entertainment for making our reception so much fun and for keeping the dance floor alive! You guys rock!!! read more

We just had our wedding this past weekend and Gumbo made it one of the greatest parties I could have ever imagined. Todd was more than accommodating for all of our requests, providing all of the extra equipment we needed and helping out throughout the night! We really enjoyed the teamwork that we felt working with him as we blended some wedding classics with our own personal music selections. I never once felt nervous about the music and when planning a wedding, that is a HUGE relief. Thank you Todd for making the night SUPER fun and memorable. And thanks for being so willing to travel!! read more

Todd is the man. He did our wedding reception with style and class. He acquiesced to our wanting to sing ourselves into the ballroom, and he played all of the songs that we requested, even that Harlem Shake thing that was in style during that time. Thanks Todd! read more

Gumbo Entertainment was a great DJ for our wedding! the price was right and we'd attended a wedding where Todd was the DJ previously, and it was the best dance floor we'd ever seen at a wedding. As our wedding DJ in this past Feb, he over delivered, again! Great time! Thanks, Todd!! read more

I was so happy I chose to have Gumbo Entertainment DJ my wedding. Todd was an EXCELLENT DJ and made the event very fun! The music was the perfect balance of conversation savvy background music and dance music that drew people to the dance floor. He was a great MC too! Gumbo Entertainment was very professional to work with, very communicative, quick to respond to communications and very straightforward. Todd had a lot of great ideas for music, that turned out really well and added some comedy as well. He also worked really well with all of the ideas we gave him. He helped make our event fun, warm, and memorable! I would highly recommend Gumbo Entertainment! read more

I would like to thank Gumbo Entertainment for a wonderful time at our wedding. The music was the best Todd kept the whole evening alive and fun.... it was amazing to see people that would never go on the dance floor, actually dancing!!! The evening was a total success... THANKS GUMBO ENTERTAINMENT! read more

My bride and I were married on Kauai in August and wanted to bring some aloha back for our guests at our reception in Southern California. Along with the aloha we wanted a professional DJ who could reach out to our entire group without being overbearing. The folks at Gumbo were exactly what we were looking for. Todd, our DJ, was extremely professional throughout the entire planning process, set up and during our reception. Everyone commented on his mix of music that got everyone up and dancing. He was able to reach out to a very diverse age group and get them all to the dance floor. Should we need DJ services again, or should my friends or family need DJ services, Gumbo will be on the top of the list. Professional, friendly, accessible, and attentive - Gumbo stepped up to the plate for us and I highly recommend them. read more

We owe Todd a huge thank you for giving us the wedding we always pictured! Music is incredibly important to us, so we interviewed a dozen DJs before landing on Gumbo Entertainment. It was clear from our first meeting that Todd is extremely professional, super knowledgeable, and most importantly a great listener. We had a litany of specific and idiosyncratic requests that Todd made happen. Whenever we hit a roadblock, Todd found a solution to get around it. When we needed to adjust our whole setup for the rain, Todd painlessly reworked it all. He met with us often (even though we were planning from out-of-town) and double-checked ever last detail to make sure we got the wedding we wanted. Ultimately, it paid off handsomely. There wasn't a moments lull on the dance floor! And our guests are still talking about how perfect the music was. read more

TODD BUTEAUX WAS THE BEST DJ ANYONE COULD ASK FOR!!! He made the flow of the entire event run so smooth. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day and knowing that Todd was on his game made us feel at ease knowing we were in the best hands! From the big band jazz songs of Frank Sinatra for cocktail hour to the calm sounds of John Legend for dining, Todd made the guests feel as though they were controlling the music with songs the crowds would play on their own stereo's. You can never so wrong with Gumbo Entertainment's very own Todd Buteaux!!!! BOOK HIM!! HE'S AMAZING!!!! read more

Gumbo Entertainment are superb DJs! Todd has been Djing for our Best Buddies dances 3 years in a row now and we all love him. At our Best Buddies dances, we have special ed. and general ed. students plus many adults. He is great - very interactive with everyone and all the kids got some prizes. He got almost all the kids (and even some adults) up to his music - modern, oldies, Latin music, Cha Cha slide, limbo, you name it! When he was done, the kids were all happy and sad that he was done. Several of the adults were asking him for his business card and many commented to me how good he was. I can't say anything negative about this guy. He is a great DJ and a great guy too! I highly recommend him/Gumbo Entertainment! read more

Joe put on a excellent show for us. He really is good at what he does. From our wedding ceremony to the last dance he keep things flowing smoothly and on schedule too. I will highly recommend him to my friends and family. He keep the mood light with jokes and made everybody feel comfortable. He worked with the venue providers to meet their requirements for noise levels and still rocked the place! Thank you Joe! read more

I'm a wedding planner (www.silvercharmevents.com), and I booked Gumbo Entertaiment for two of my weddings this Spring. The first one was last weekend, and they were fantastic. Wonderful and flexible to work with before the wedding, and wonderful and on the ball during the wedding. DJ Corey Parker was responsive, never blinked at changes in the schedule, and the music he played was fantastic. Had a hard time getting everyone off the dance floor once the music had to stop, and that's never a bad sign. Looking forward to next week's wedding! read more

Corey Parker brought down the house at our December 15 wedding in Santa Monica! After attending some bridal shows and being completely cheesed out by some of the entertainment offerings I was more than nervous, but then I met the guys at Gumbo Entertainment and I knew that I could trust them not to show up in a purple tux and act as my hype man all night. We booked Corey and set up our first meeting about a month before the wedding. He was so laid back and friendly my husband and I hit it off with him right away. We talked about the kind of music we and our guests would get down to. I promised him a party crowd and he offered us expert advice on what kind of music to think of when we were putting together our list. We started peppering him with ideas and do not plays, getting excited just thinking about the upcoming event. Corey got excited right along with us and we felt confident! The night of the event he rocked it. The floor was packed all night with people from 2 years old to 82 years old and several of our guests came up to us to compliment our DJ choice. The whole process was easy and we felt like we were dealing with someone who was just as enthusiastic about our event as we were, we never felt like he was trying to make it the Corey Parker show -- I know you've been to weddings like that -- but in the end it was! He mixed expertly, kept the party going and we had a blast! If you don't want to deal with a used car salesman approach call Gumbo! They are really nice people who know what they are doing! read more

We had a destination wedding in Santa Barbara and we were unable to visit with Corey face to face. All of our interactions with him were via e-mail and phone conversations. We had no idea what we were working with. When we got to the reception, Corey met us before we were to make our grand entrance and made sure he got our names and the order in which we were coming in. He played a great mix of music and he kept the reception moving. He was there, but he wasn't. He was very receptive to any requests. We would definitely recommend him to any couple who is going to be having a wedding in Santa Barbara. Thanks, Corey!! read more
