    Stihl Doesn't Stand behind Their Products Anymore…read more In March of this year I went to use my Stihl MSA220C battery operated chain saw and it would not start. I had paid a total of $849.92 for the saw, 2 batteries and the battery charger. Not exactly chump change. I took it to the place I purchased it, Luhrs Hardware in Hawley, PA, to be checked out and repaired if necessary. On March 20 Luhrs advised that the saw was not worth repairing, because the motor brushes had seized up. Just throw it out and buy a new one. I subsequently emailed Stihl about the product failure, which appears to be a manufacturing defect. The saw, purchased November 5, 2020, has been used only sparingly, and not commercially. Motor brushes shouldn't seize up. I offered to ship the defective product to Stihl (at my expense), and since the warranty had expired, I offered to pay "a reasonable fee" to have it repaired. This is what I sent to Stihl: "Purchased Stihl MSA 220C on 11/5/2020. Use saw only sparingly (home use, not commercial) This season tried to use saw and it would not start. Had it inspected at a Stihl dealer and was advised that the motor brushes seized and the saw was toast, said it wasn't worth repairing & to throw it away. Before I do that, I am inquiring whether Stihl will stand behind this product and make a repair for a reasonable charge if I ship it to you at my expense. I have long had Stihl gas powered chain saws, blowers and weed whackers, all still alive & working fine, this is my first Stihl battery product and I am really disappointed in this. Kindly adise," Stihl's rather curt response today (May 9) was they would not repair it, even for a fee. Thomas, Sorry to hear about this experience. It looks like the saw has surpassed the warranty period. In this situation we will not be able to provide assistance with a repair. Therefore, I will switch to Milwaukee-brand tools from now on, since Stihl does not stand behind their products. And it is my duty to let you know about their arrogant disregard for their customers, even when their product is defective.

    I am not typing anything that you already don't know. Flair is one of those hardware places that,…read morewhen you walk in it always reminds you of the hardware stores when you were a kid. They may not have everything you want, or sometimes when you go in, they may not have anything you want, but if they can get it ordered for you, they will. I have been coming up this mountain for about 35 years, & I have been going into Flair for probably just as long. When I walk in & I see Dana there, I know she'll always put a smile on your face, & she will go out of her way to find you or get you what you're looking for. Everyone behind that counter is the same way. When we moved up here my husband was not familiar with the area as I was & one of the first things I told him when we were talking about the go to places I told him anytime we need something for the house we always go to Flair first & then I showed him where it was. Yes there are other hardware stores up & down 739 that you can go to & pretty much know that they will have what you need but you'll never get the personal attention that you get when you walk into Flair so thank you guys for always being there & I hope for as long as I am living here you will continue to be there!

    Not nearly as friendly or customer oriented as Independence - True Value (just about a mile down…read morethe road) and not as cheap either (not that Ace is cheap) but they are very good in a pinch. Make sure if you buy something that you buy the right item because they are difficult to deal with if you have to make a return or exchange. The little guy is great to work with but the cashier is obviously the boss and she can be very bossy and know-it-all instead of helpful. Before you finish explaning what you're looking for she has the answer and you sort of have to take her word for it or she'll over-talk you and you'll never get out of there.

Not…read morejust do they stock a great variety of plants and trees of all kinds, but they are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. For instance, we have been enduring some really terrible frost. They guided us through buying the frost blankets needed to fend off the frost, and as a result saved our beautiful new peach tree (which we bought from these guys last year). A first-class store staffed by top-notch people!

The owner and his staff go out of the way to buy the most unusual items. If I need a birthday gift for someone, I come here. I purchased a hand blown glass bird feeder for a friend. The price was not outrageous, as I am cheap, and my girlfriend LOVED it. If you need birdseed, at 69 cents a pound, buying it loose, you can't beat this place either. Of course they have the usual items, but you can even haggle a little sometimes and get a REAL bargain. Last year I got a beautiful bush for 1/3 off, just by asking if they had ANY specials at the end of the year. The woman in the gardening department actually said, I could let this one go a little cheaper as long as I know it is going to a good home. She feels about her plants the way I do! And lastly, in the country, you have to deal with mice. It is a necessary evil of the joy of the mountains. I was directed to a device that kills the mice by one of the ladies inside. They're mice, so killing them is fine with me as long as I don't see their feces on my counter top and in my food anymore. She even knew what she was talking about with that. In one week, my mouse problem has been solved. I was able to catch one mouse a day, and now I live rodent free. Thanks AGWAY for knowing your stuff!!!!
