It's savory and heavy enough to be a meal but I was being generous and decided to share the appetizer with my spouse. They do offer a spice scale and they don't hold back. I foolishly tried the spice level 3 (out of 5 being the hottest) and should have chosen a 2 spice level. But the cauli was so good I fought through the pain. Worth it. I could have easily stopped there but we also ordered the garlic naan (also yessssss) as well as the Lamb Korma and Chicken Vindaloo. Both those entrees were delicious but the Korma really stood out to me. The rich and creamy sauce was very unique to my pallet and when I returned, I ordered the Chicken Korma. Clearly I love a good sauce. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, very spacious and would be great for groups or a romantic dinner for 2 (or 3 if you are into that sort of thing). The service was excellent and our server was patient when we ask questions about the menu. Fortunately, a lot of the dishes have descriptions on the menu so you have a good idea of what you are ordering. We were seated immediately, and given time/space to look over the menu, but with our server still hovering nearby in case we had questions or were ready quickly. When we ordered, the server explained the 1-5 spice scale, gave recommendations, and even asked about allergies. After the food came out, he continued to check on us. This is definitely not one of those "abandoned in the corner and ignored" type of establishments. We started with an order of chili paneer, with spice level 2. It was perfectly crunchy and super flavorful. Level 2 has a nice kick to it if you sit for a minute between bites, but it doesn't necessarily light you up either. It is a great level if you're sharing something with someone a little more spice-hesitant. I love paneer, and this appetizer had a generous portion that could easily be a meal for 1 person. For my main, I got the Chana masala, spice level 3. This was absolutely delicious! Spicy, warm, flavorful. Chickpeas had the perfect texture -- not too hard nor too mushy. As a spicy food enjoyer, level 3 was a nice level that is hot and ~just~ starts to make my face flush, but isn't overpowering. A "conversational" level if you will. I could easily order this on a work lunch and could still eat with decorum. We also got garlic naan, which is always a hit, but done absolutely perfectly here. My food took 10 minutes to be made which I love. I don't mind waiting for fresh food. The meat was perfectly seasoned and tender , the rice was the same not overcooked or mushy. The sauce ! I got the white and red one and i will be asking for extra next time it added more layers of flavor. The while one was creamy and the red added I little kick. So being able to find good Hala in North Carolina is such a plus. This food truck is located in the parking lot of a gas station which typically they are and it seems to be in a good location. The chicken over rice was packed with flavor. It was so good and they put just the right amount of sauce on it. The tray was definitely heavy. The chicken wings were very crispy. Expect this to sell out before Sunday most weeks. It is delicious. They defined take care in the prep the meat is not gamey or with an off taste. It is tender , well seasoned. I asked for it to be Jamaican hot and it wasn't spicy to me but that could be a me thing with my high spice tolerance. It was still amazing and my favorite thing I've had from the truck by far beside the jerk chicken. Oxtail ; this is the only thing I haven't liked so far. I personally do not like sweet meat and the oxtail was sweet to me. They were well cooked though. Very tender. I haven't re ordered them though. Jerk Chicken ; this chicken is so delicious (this is a theme most of the truck is great ). I cleaned the bones off this chicken. It was tender and they allow you to say how you'd like the sauce I don't like ketchup so I asked that it doesn't have that with jerk and bbq only. Rice and Peas ; your typical rice and peas very good. Rasta Pasta ; this is my favorite side but it can be a bit inconsistent. Nothing else, from the tandoori chicken to the daal to the naan, was prepared poorly, but it was fairly forgettable. Granted, buffet food needs to appeal to a wide range of diners with varying levels of spice tolerance, and so I went in not expecting any heat. Take spiciness out of the equation, however, and the flavors still felt subdued. At least the $20 seemed reasonable for what was offered. It's possible that Noor really shines if you order off the regular menu, and so I wouldn't rule out a return here. The next time I want a weekend lunch buffet, however, I think I'll stick to Taaza.
