Absolutely awful experience working with Gulliver. I booked a quote for my broken garage door opener the day before. They called me 20 minutes before the scheduled appointment time to tell me that they couldn't make it and wanted me to rebook for the weekend. I was hesitant but agreed. When the time came to do the work, the same thing happened. They called me shortly before the appointment to tell me they "had a flat tire." Again, I was extremely suspicious and suspected I was being taken for a ride but I rebooked. When the technician finally showed up, he was incredibly unprepared. At one point, I actually had to get up on a ladder and help him position the opener. I'm an able-bodied person and so it wasn't a big deal for me, but what would happen if this person had to work with somebody who has mobility issues? The opener was massively overpriced. I paid $800 for an opener that only comes with a single remote. The integration with the key panel doesn't work anymore and the technician made no effort to rectify the issue. The entire experience was incredibly frustrating from start to finish. I would strongly urge you to seek out another company to handle any garage related issues that you run into. read more

Garage Door was replaced in kind. -Took 3 visits for them to realize it needed low clearance brackets mounted so it wouldn't hit the limit switch. Should of been done the first time. -Brackets/Hinges were not only installed off centre but also at an angle. I was told this was fine. Last time I checked, hinges open properly when on centre and straight up and down. Door was opening/ closing very poorly. -Rubber seal was cut 3" short. Was told "it shrunk". Rubber wont shrink 3" even in Alberta. -Dont understand why such a poor install. -They strangely operate at least 3 websites which must draw a fair bit of business. Could have a lot more if they spent an extra 20 min doing it right the first time. Garage Door's are fairly straight forward to switch out. -Had to bring in a professional company to fix this new install. read more

Desperately in Dec I contacted them to replace a panel on my garage door said they couldn't do it until the next day. I found a company to do it for the same price that afternoon. I contacted them 2 hours after I had given them my credit card info to cancel. They sent me a text saying they would refund the money yet to date have not received a cent. However, he refused to adjust the springs, played with the settings which made things worse, and then told me he wouldn't service a MasterCraft. He then tried to sell me a completely new opener for $750. When I told him there's no way I'll pay that, he just turned around and left. I'm glad I didn't agree to any work with them. read more

I phoned them about having my garage door replaced. The guy who showed up was dressed like a slob with his pants falling off his behind. He tried to use high pressure tactics to get me to commit to the cheapest 7 ft by 9 ft garage door for $2,400. I told him I am going to take my time and get two more quotes. I got another quote. Then I checked Home Depot and found that I can get a basic uninstalled 7 ft by 9 ft garage door for $468. I believe that Home Depot has installers that will install it for around $400. If not, I will get two people I know to install it for that price. read more

A few weeks later, 2nd spring broke, which I then found out it is very unusual to change only one spring. they still charged me full price. the 2nd company I brought in to fix the 2nd spring did more work at a less price. Very expensive, the guy had to borrow my tools, had to get me to help him and then when it was all done he took off like a bat out of you know where. As I later had a chance to inspect the door I found it was out of alignment, one of the rollers was not replaced and many of the screws holding the whole thing together were stripped. Had them replace a spring in my garage door at the beginning of June. 6 weeks later the cord got tangled due to a over tightened spring. The door fell off the track and resulted in the door falling down. Luckily no one including my small kids got hurt by it. I had them come out to fix it and was told we need a new door and they wanted $1300 deposit when I hadn't even picked out a door I was just told it would be $2600. Horrible experience! Wish I could give zero stars. The technician showed up at my house to quote me on replacing the weatherstripping on the bottom of my garage door. He had to step away to make a call. Came back to tell me a price. $299?!?! Which is outrageous! I told the technician what I had thought. He made another call (it's like there's some mystery man on the phone calling the shots) they charge $30.00 for the service fee for the technician to come, the technician then tried to justify the price by telling me they charge $199 for labour and then whatever else for the parts. I contacted Garage Door Repair Sherwood Park as I wished to give my business to a local company. I trusted that their pricing would be reasonable as they need to make a profit to remain in business. We were charged $618 to replace 2 springs, springs that are worth $60 each. We felt ripped off as $500 for 30 min of labour is too much profit!. The invoice we received was from Gulliver Garage Door that when I checked has a very poor rating. I called Garage Door Repair and asked if they are Gulliver Garage Door, they acknowledged that they are the same company. I asked them to review the invoice as I felt $618 was excessive, no response. I have to believe Garage Door Repair is a front for Gulliver Garage Door as they have such a poor reputation, predominately for excess charges. They operate under 5-6 different names, I called Edmonton garage door repairs, and they sent Gulliver. It took him 30 mins to fix 2 garage door springs, and they charged me 500$. It's a 250$ job everywhere else. Plus the invoice said 500$ plus 25$ for gst, but they charged my card 577.50$. Already talked to MasterCard and I'm getting the money back. I have just had a horrible experience with a company called Gulliver garage doors. My garage door broke and I asked the above company to come over after I saw their google entry. Apparently they are known by several other names including Door Surgeon in Edmonton. Foolishly I asked them to come over for a $30.00 callout fee. I was okay with this. They then said I'd need all new hardware (torsion spring, cables and drums). They told me this would cost $650.00. I asked how much the spring cost and they said $250.00 and the other pieces also $250.00, plus labour. I got them down to $600.00 (including GST) and stupidly gave the go ahead for the work. When it came time to pay, I was told it would be $630.00 because the original number didn't include GST. Fearing that I had been overcharged, I called up a couple of other companies and they said garage hardware pieces should cost between $2.00 to $70.00 (including the torsion springs) and that the total job should have cost between $200-$350.00. I called them up with this information but they wouldn't adjust the price at all. After looking the Better Business Bureau website, I see other customers have also been fleeced. Horrible, please go somewhere else, anywhere else. I was pressured and told the springs were $200.00 EACH, when I took 5 mins to call a local Sherwood Park dealer I was told only $50.00 EACH. When I told the gentlemen I no longer wanted to have the work done, he refused to leave my home unless I paid him $100.00 for 5 minutes of getting a ladder off the truck. He said "do your homework before lady" I offered $50.00; $30.00 for the service call (which is their cost); and $20.00 for lifting a ladder. He refused and bullied me into paying $100.00, despite the deception of the cost of the part. Unaccepted behaviour. Very untrustworthy. I was able to purchase and have the springs installed with another dealer for OVER 1/2 the cost $200; vs Gullivar's quote of $500.00 plus GST. read more

Poor service and higher quote . On Friday and make appointment to fixed my Garage door on Saturday The Garage door cannot open due to loose cable. The Guy come on time and give an estimate of $ 350 to repair the cable and want to repair the all roller for the total cost of $500 . We just need to repair the cable . He repair the cable for $350+GST and the next day the door is bend in the center and cannot move down . We call in and the same guy come and want another $500 to fixed the Garage door and blame the problem is caused by refusing to repair the roller. We reject him and ask another company recommended by Home depot to fixed the door next day. The nice repairman come and fixed the door within half an hour and charge us $110 with GST included by install another supporter bar and re-alignment the door .The door right now is working good. This company seems to have a lot of poor reviews, which I didn't see before calling them. However, I think we had very good service. They came out right away and replaced the track for us. Even though our system is 14 years old, there was no pressure to upgrade or replace or do anything other than just fix what was broken so we could get the garage door open again. They sent out a nice young fellow, his name was Ben if you need to call them, and I appreciated his honesty. He flat out said don't fix things that work fine, just replace this broken track and will probably get another year or more out of it. If someone doesn't try to sell me things needlessly, that's a good company in my opinion. Did we get overcharged? No idea. I didn't call around to check out other places. For routine maintenance, as well as putting in a completely new track, fixing the lights and fixing the wiring on the pin pad, it was $300 plus GST. Just wanted to let people know that if you call "Garage door repair" in Sherwood Park as found by Google search because I live in Fort Saskatchewan. To my surprise they sent out a guy from Gulliver doors in Edmonton. They make it sound like there is only a $29 service charge but as I found out after the service guy arrived, that is only for showing up and/or getting an estimate. BEWARE , they will not tell you that THEY CHARGE at LEAST $110/hr for labour, and it seems they round the cost up to the full hour if it takes less. My issue is with non disclosure of the extremely high labour charges. They also refuse to provide an itemized estimate (only a total cost) on site or on an invoice that shows the labour charges, as they are trying to hide their RIP OFF labour charges! When I sent a note complaining about not being provided with an itemized (showing labour charges separate) invoice and that I had calculated the cost allowing for significantly high parts pricing, my calculations showed that the minimum they could have priced the labour at was an unbelievable $110/hr, they refused to provide a new invoice and sent back a nasty note saying that the cost was due to the immediate service that I received but I had NOT requested immediate service in fact I was ready to wait 3 or 4 days for service and they did not ask or give me a choice on their response. The note claimed that I didn't know anything about normal repair charges by other companies and that others charge $140/hr, which is BS because who charges that kind of price for uncertified manual labour when auto repair shops charge half that for a certified journeyman auto mechanic with extra specific trainng? The service guy was pleasant enough but seemed to have more training in what NOT to tell the customer than what it took to actually replace the springs which I was told on the phone would be about $129.00ea but then was told by the service guy after pushing him for a price they would be $200 ea. which may be a fair price so I said nothing because I never expected the labour to be so expensive! I was charged nearly $600.00 for the job which was supposed to be to replace one spring but was up sold to replace both. I have an ordinary residential 2 car garage and this price seems like a big RIP OFF to me because of the labour charges. They quote you at $29 for assessment and promise to tell you if there are any additional costs, but after simply assessing and removing a lightbulb suddenly the bill was $133 (with a discount he told me), but neglected to tell me prior to of the extra cost incurred with removing that lightbulb which I easily could have done on my own. The guy from Gulliver was extremely unprofessional, constantly taking personal phone calls throughout and had a very rude demeanour. I neglected to receive any invoice. When I called back the next day, I asked the lady if the technicians for sure tell you about any extra costs prior to incurring them, which she promised me they definitely do. I told her about my experience and she proceeded to basically call me a liar and get very defensive on the phone. All I was offered was rude remarks and discounts if I was a returning customer on my next garage door repair with them. My vehicle was stuck in my garage I asked them to come out and fix the spring. I noticed also that the one cable seem to be broken the guy said it would be $300. He put the spring and and then he said that he just noticed the cables that were broken and that those were an additional $300 I told him he was out of his mind...he then cut that price in half to $150 for eight dollars cables. When it came time for billing the price was $525 he said that I miss heard him and that the spring cost was $350. As it appears on yelp this is happened to other people in the past. They know that you're screwed and they take advantage of that by mentioning after the fact what is required to fix your door. Demand a written estimate from anybody in life with a full estimate of what the job will cost including all parts and labor. As this was $200 above what I expected that a scam and piss poor business practice! read more
