The owner scarred my finger with her natural nail (see pic) while she, her husband (another owner) & 5 yr old daughter were there. I showed both owners what she had done (bled for an hour) and yet I was charged full price after being cut so badly that the actual tech couldn't finish. Love Gulden's! I have been here several times, and have had great experiences every time. I have severe arthritic psoriasis on my feet, so have been extremely hesitant for anyone to even see my feet up close, let alone touch them. My pedicures have turned beautiful, relaxing and they made me feel comfortable about my condition. Not to mention, the staff is super sweet, and they get me right in even though I've been a walk-in. Love this place! I love getting to know them. Gulden remembers things about me and my family. She will ask me about things we spoke about two or three weeks ago. I love that! Now she has a boutique to explore as well! Awesome! I do love that they talk to me and not around me. English is her second language so it is nice that she speaks only English. I also love learning tidbits about Her country. Another thing I love is that she will talk with me about the services she offers and give me an honest opinion if I need a service or not. We were so excited to get our daughter's manicure and pedicure for Prom. We entered the salon. Was quickly approached. Which was great. After gathering the information of our classic pedi/mani. The greeter said nothing. Walked away and got a broom. We were not spoken to until another person came out of nowhere. She did address us. The owner, maybe a manager? She seemed friendly. After feeling very awkward standing in the middle Of the shop. That had limited seating. Being ignored for over 20 minutes. We walked out of the building. As we were getting in our car. The young women approached us and asked if we still wanted the pedicure. A couple of lessons. Manners are important to any business. Especially small business. We would have easily spent plenty of money in the spa and shop. If we were welcomed. The shop side was full of lovely items that I would have enjoyed adding to my collection. My daughter would have been thrilled if she would have been seen valuable. I can not help to wonder if we were treated poorly because my husband just got off work? He was in work clothes? Or that my daughter was dressed more casual? Or maybe it was just overall poor training. My advice, Train you staff to welcome your customers. Have more seating. As for us... we went next store. I went in to Gulden's for the first time today. The salon is clean and I was greeted right away. I wanted a shellac manicure - which I noticed was $35.00 - and I was seated promptly and given the color menu. I only needed to soak off one nail but the tech who sat down to do my manicure didn't seem to want to wait. She removed the soaking cup that had just been put on began roughly scraping off the polish with a metal tool that hurt my thumb and cuticle. When she did the manicure, I was honestly surprised at how poorly it was done. The tech roughly filed my nails and then applied cuticle lotion that she did not allow to soak in or even sit on my fingers. When she did go to cut my cuticles, she never touched the side of any of my fingers...she would only cut the base of my cuticle and even then, she went so fast, that she missed significant parts that needed to be trimmed. The "manicure" was over in about 4 minutes. She was also not very good at polishing. She applied the bonding coat but then scrubbed it back off with cotton leaving cotton fibers stuck to my nails that she then polished. My cuticles were still rough and you could clearly see them but she didn't cut them back, just polished over them. Once the shellac set, she "massaged" my hands with oil - which smelled amazing - and then wrapped them in a hot towel. The whole process took 10 minutes total and I was so disappointed. The tech was very polite but it felt like she had no idea what she was doing and was just trying to get through it. It was not worth $35.00 at all. The salon was nice and the owner seemed wonderful but they need techs in there who know what they're doing and are willing to take the time to do it well. Don't plan on going back. read more

I was excited about going here because previous reviews were good. I wanted a shellac manicure and a pedicure. Started with the pedi and stuck my feet into the hottest water I've ever encountered at a salon, pulled my feet out quickly and it looked like I had pink socks on. They added cool water but how someone could put their hand in that water and think it was ok was beyond me. The other issue I had was when it came to callous removal they used callous remover and some oddball metal paddle with bumps. Felt more like a massage implement than a callous tool. I was told that all abrasive and cutting tools are illegal. I thought that was odd because other salons use them. I went and checked the actual legislation pertaining to nail salons and all it said was that live tissue could not be penetrated. (225 ILCS 410-1-13) End result was me having to get out my callous remover at home and do it myself. Polish application was fine but they had no matching shellac and regular polish so my fingers and does didn't match and I wanted them to. Nice, new, clean. A regular spa that takes appointments, but they are very accommodating to walk-ins. I guess the main thing that I like, which is going to sound prejudiced as heck but true, is that they're all locals. They speak English. They're not constantly talking to each other in another language. I've always thought that was extremely rude, no matter what language my technician speaks. The fact that I have no idea what they're talking about makes it all the more rude. This place is pretty quiet. I come to a spa for some relaxation and to de-stress. This is a good place to do it. I just get regular manicures. I hate having my nails thick. They do the shellac colors. I wash my hands constantly due to working in healthcare. They last a long time and have really helped my nails hold up a lot better. They're just building up their clientele, but they have a great location on Wabash in the same strip as Qdoba. While a local billboard touts this to be a place where they "Talk to you, not about you", it fell way short of my expectations when I was there a while back. Granted all there spoke English-it is operated/owned by same. HOWEVER, this owner definitely was not friendly---at least to me. Granted I was not dressed to kill and did not exude class ( NOT my thing), but she hardly recognized my presence other than to critique the work of the VERY PLEASANT young lady who did my mani/pedicure. There were customers there purchasing items from the boutique, dressed in a fashion different than my "running errands/work mode". The owner talked with them extensively! This visit was indeed a luxury for me. I will not return. I have since found a lovely, clean nail salon in Chatham IL., owned by a sweet Vietnamese couple They were the epitome of kindness! The staff (and owner) is friendly, the place very relaxing & clean, and there are so many polish colors to choose from! Worst customer service experience I've had at a salon.... My friend and I made an appointment because she had heard a few good things about the salon. We arrived right on time yet the owner made me wait 15 minutes so she could finish giving herself a manicure. She was very rude, making comments about my personal nail maintenance. Did I even ask?! She even left me in the chair to go make personal phone calls. (She was not shy about her phone conversation) Needless to say, I do not recommend anyone to Gulden's. I will never go back. read more

I went to this salon for the first time because I had heard some good reviews about the salon. I walked in with no appointment and was immediately able to sit in the pedicure chair. The lady was super nice that helped me. Service was good. I did ask for a design and it did not turn out how I would have liked. The flowers look like a blob with a rhinestone in the middle. My feet feel like I did not get a pedicure at all, that I just got my nails painted. My heels look like they did when I went into the place. It took me an hour and a half. I am very unhappy how my feet and toes look. I will not be going back and I will not be recommending anyone. read more

This was my first experience at this salon and will definitely be my last. I did not have an appointment when I walked in but I did ask if the wait would be long. The owner said about five minutes and I thought that was reasonable. I asked for a mani/pedi and told her of a specific color that I wanted for my nails. While I was getting my pedi the owner was doing two ladies nails at the same time. The whole time she was taking personal phone calls and at one point went in the back in a closed room and was yelling at the person she was talking to. My toes look like a five year old did them. Although the lady who did them was very sweet. She did not wrap my fingers to take the shellac off so that was another whole process after my toes were done. The lady who did my nails was also nice but she talked badly about another co worker who apparently did not come to work that day. I was there longer than a mother and daughter who came in after me that got both a mani and pedi. I'm a firm believer in tipping no matter how bad the service is so left a tip for both ladies. The owner checked me out and gave me a coupon for ten dollars off for the next time I came but also commented that if she were me she probably would not. If she really wanted me to come back she should have used the coupon today especially if she didn't think I was coming back. Also the prices at this salon are more expensive than any in Springfield. With so many choices of nail salons I wouldn't think a small business owner would treat a new customer that way or be so unprofessional.
