Not to be confused with the Sitar Center which mostly sells Indian instruments, or the Bitcoin Center which deals in Kryptonite Currency, that which only Superman can't use. As my Guitar Center gently weeps, I find myself writing a negative review for this place. Guitar Center will always be a little too expensive which it didn't used to be. Some of the employees here are really nice, but when it comes to return policies I'm not a fan. I'm aware that musicians probably take advantage of returns or maybe are shady a lot more than your average customer of another type of store does, but that just meant that when I was not trying to be shady and had genuine problems with my equipment I ran into major problems and restocking fees that just made me wonder why I bought it from here in the first place. And why do they make the restocking fees seem nonexistent or unimportant or avoidable until you actually need to return something. Shady AF. read more

Staffs not helpful, not friendly, they low ball you on trade in. They won't take great gear because they have no guitar tech. I literally went to Rockin Robin got the part I needed fixed the amp in about 15 minutes then decided to keep it cause it's a great tube amp. You kind of sit around waiting for someone to do something. I asked the manager sitting in front of someone could get me the item I was waiting he said wait for a sales associate then just went back to twiddling his thumbs. They wouldn't take my passport as a form of ID to trade in because it's not store policy I have to have a "state issued Id" which is in fact not true. These guys run a master class on how to drive away business. I came in with hundreds of dollars worth of gear and buy more and I ended up leaving with nothing but frustration. Following day I went to the westheimer location and totally different experience. Helpful, friendly, decent price on trade ins. This store has my business even though it's considerably further then the Yale location. read more

I purchased an Ibanez RGTHRG2 HR Giger electric guitar from this location, and found the sales representatives to be very professional and knowledgeable. That said, it helps to know exactly what you want going in. All Giger models are extremely tough to come by, so I was very surprised to actually discover this location had one available. Update since my previous visit. Went today and the manager (red shirt so I'm assuming) was the guy you expect at a guitar shop. "Hi. Wanna plug that in? " as I stand with a Strat in my hand. "Better amps here". Takes me into the high end room, and allows me to play the high end guitars. Awesome Les Paul that's a custom shop 59' version. There's rules of course. Common courtesy of course, and please "come get me when you're done". Instead of leaving it on the hook or a floor stand. That's how you get people back. Think his name was Russ. So basically fuck you home dude had long dark hair, glasses, skinny to medium build.. assuming in management since other associates kept coming up to him asking how to handle a situation. My experience with Guitar Center was great. I purchased a guitar for my fiancé along with lessons and insurance. They explained everything thoroughly and I had a fantastic experience overall. I wish I could remember the names of everyone who helped me, but their staff was knowledgeable and customer focused. I appreciated all pf the help are service that I received. Best selection of acoustics of all the GCs in the Houston area and the most helpful staff! I came in for strings and got the chance to play a $6,000 Taylor (and the guy who helped me was very chill about it, which is rare at a lot of music shops.. especially with the high end stuff. I completely understand COVID protocols, but you have to make a line to enter the store, and it's 1 customer per employee ratio. They have 3 employees here so you can just imagine. I wasn't aware you had to make a line to get in, and walked straight in, and a lady told me I had to make a line in a very obvious way, as if there was a bug sign stating so. I ran out of patience after waiting 15 min in line and left. I came back the next day hoping it wouldn't take as long, as it's worse. A guy walked out pretty upset about the same thing. They are scared of their own shadow regarding COVID protocols. They're grossly overdoing it and lost business from several people in the 10-15 minutes I was standing in their one in one out line. I needed two cords for a speaker - it would take me 5 minutes max in the store but because they're terrified of the great Chinese boogeyman they've made it impossible to shop there. The fella that seems like the manager also talks to you like you're stupid, refers to it as "his" store when ordering you around as if you should have read his mind by then on the protocols and hat aren't posted, aren't communicated or anything. You're just supposed to figure out why there's an unnecessary line out the door. Not a great way to conduct yourself and not a great way of doing business, COVID-19 or not. read more

I called in advance to try and sell an electric drum kit with a minor break, they said it would be alright to bring it in. But when I got there they wouldn't accept it because it was an "electric drum set" with little to no explanation. I used to shop here frequently but they have become a very unprofessional business and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Wouldn't take my return (was longer than 45 days so I totally understood). However the employees told me they would buy it back from me for around 1/4 of the price. So I agreed. After an additional 30 min of having me follow them, watch them test the product, them agreeing to paying me a certain amount, they then proceed to tell me they won't buy it back after all. Store is doing a great job at safety protocol for Covid. Masks required and tape all over the place for social distancing. Came in looking to just get strings for work so I had to leave with them. Took 45 minutes from waiting in line till walking out the door. The sales associates on the floor were super friendly and knowledgeable. Protocol and sales associates deserve a 5. The things that deserve a 1 and really dropped the stars were the time it took and the guy at the front door. Seemed to be a manager on a HUGE POWER TRIP. Walking around arrogantly and barking orders at the sales associates. Be extra kind when you're being helped by sales associates because they have to work with that guy. read more

When this Guitar Center opened up, the bf was ecstatic since normally we would frequent the big one on Westheimer, this one is ok but I think I prefer the other one. It's not very big, it has pretty much a little of everything but not very much of a selection. Customer service is spotty, I can't tell you how many times we've come here and gotten ignored by the employees. If you're into sound machines and controllers they don't have the best selection. I would go to the westheimer location for that. But they do have decent sales pretty frequently. If you're just getting into playing guitar, they normally have good sales on guitars for $99 bucks, not too bad. For the most part, this location does the job if you're looking for something common, but if you're looking for a larger selection and excellent customer service, look elsewhere. read more

The team at Guitar Center exceeded my expectations for customer service. We initially began working with Associate Jay to process a refund of a drum set. My Brother-in-Law was unable to bring it with him on his international flight due to updated flight regulations. It appeared that we would have a logistical nightmare issuing a refund for my Brother-in-Law who lives overseas. The Customer Service Manager Justin provided a solution to our issue, and we were relieved! Big kudos to the team for going above and beyond to solve our problem. read more

I play ukulele, but I love looking at guitars and bass guitars. So many are works of art. This location sports a nice selection of ukes. A number of the top manufacturers are always in stock: Kala, Luna, Mitchell, Fender (Fender makes great ukes, both acoustic and electric), Lanikai, among others. You can find beginner models under $50, stylin' models for several hundred, and quite a few in between. When I visited, they even had a guitalele (a 6-string hybrid of a guitar and a ukulele, with EADGBE tuning instead of the uke's GCEA). Wandering into the collectible guitar area, I saw a gorgeous gold metallic Gibson Les Paul, circa 1950s, encased in glass. After staring and drooling a bit, I checked out a very modern looking 7 string guitar with no headstock. The staff are friendly. One of them helped me find an empty tab book for bass players. I use them for my uke, since both are 4 strings. I also found a cute lunch box shaped like a hard case for a Fender Strat. Got it for my guitar playing niece--I hope she likes it. read more

Not a huge fan, but I do shop here. The service is spotty and there is so much construction it just frustrates me. (I know it isn't their fault) It is in a good location right off I-10 by Heights. Right in between World Market and Sprouts. They also don't carry the strings I use. I ended up getting elixirs for my acoustic which were $16.99. I used these a lot in the past but hate the price. I guess I will order my Gibson strings online. I did buy a Gibson J29 here last year that I enjoy playing at home. But it wasn't sold to me, I picked it out and found an associate so I could pay. read more

Awful customer service. Called to gain assurance in selection of keyboard stand. I was told a specific item would fit it. Drove twenty minutes to store. Drove twenty minutes home and spent an hour assembling stand that did not fit. Drove back to purchase another stand. I was told they would order another stand that would fit. They offered to help with assembly. I waited a week and called. After speaking with manager and person who told me that they would assemble; I was told sorry we can't help, but will put it in your vehicle. Awful customer service. I even mentioned I would wait until they had time. Only to be told we won't be able to assemble. Basically they lied to appease me and sell yet another item. read more

He then let me know that Cass would be the one holding it off to the side, which she did. Ron helped with my assortment of items for my rehearsal/performance set up. I don't normally write reviews, and I usually dismiss one-star non-reviews as "waaah I didn't get what I demanded so I'm gonna show you, I'm gonna post a bad review!"... but in all seriousness, it has taken me 2 years to get to the point where I can even think about what they did to me at the Heights Guitar Center. In January 2017 I brought a couple of my guitars in for routine stuff, no problem there, but I also (made the mistake of bringing in) my 1964 Gibson Firebird VII for a check on the electronics & frets. This guitar has been in the family since I was in diapers (I am almost 55) and my dad gave it to me when I turned 18. I heard nothing for a few weeks and finally in March 2017 or so I got back in touch with them, and the tech asks me what I want to do with the guitar, they didn't want to touch it because of the cracks on the neck. I was like, WHAT CRACKS?? I collected the guitar at the Westheimer store, where they had sent it for that tech to look at. Without checking with me, they threw my guitar case in a UPS box without securing the neck & gave it to a driver, during which time (and I have confirmed this this week with an independent luthier), the banging around not only undid the previous (and very successful) repair I had done in 1983 (by a real luthier), but also further cracked the finish, leaving the headstock loose & moving back & forth. I know for a fact (as do people working there) that the guitar was fine and intact when I brought it in, as one of the salesmen played it. When I returned to the Heights store, the manager Troy (whom I see is referenced in another review) did everything he could to 'retail'-splain to me why the damage was my fault and that it was like that when I brought it in. How unbelievably maddening, not only did these inept people (re-)break my guitar, but this s.o.b. Troy lied to my face & implied I was a liar at the same time. The most unprofessional person I have ever encountered in retail. He lied his way out of responsibility for the damage, even though they 100% caused it. This is a GIBSON FIREBIRD, not some dinky Squier needing a refret or something, the way they treated my guitar was obscene; and the way Troy treated me was the ultimate in snide disrespect. There is nothing that customer service can do to assuage my anger at this situation, it's been everything I can do to not take them to court for these damages. I will stick to small music stores from now on, and suggest that others do the same - from the CEO's quotes on employees and compensation, down to this moron Troy, it's evident Guitar Center is all about the profits and not at all about the music. read more

Excellent customer service and integrity. My boss called to replace a LiveWire Elite Y-Cable, without knowing much about cords; we knew we needed this one. Alan answered the call and said to ask for him. I arrived and Alan showed me a few price point options for the same cord, and then I showed him my bent cord to replace. Alan acknowledged there was a lifetime warranty on this cord and they replaced it, free of charge. He could have sold me a new one for $25 because I didn't know about the lifetime warranty. Instead, by choosing integrity and telling me about it, they bought a loyal customer. I told my boss about the integrity choice that Alan made, and will continue to tell people.
