I understand that buying used gear comes with some level of risk. That's part of the deal. What's not part of the deal is being misled or served by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I purchased a MiM Jazz Bass that appeared nearly new -- it still had the factory stickers on it. It played well, sounded good, and everything seemed fine. Before completing the purchase, I went to the in-store luthier and specifically asked him to give the truss rod a small turn just to confirm that it moved and functioned properly. He appeared to do so and even made a couple minor setup adjustments. Two months later, while restringing the bass, I noticed a bit of neck relief and went to check the truss rod myself. The nut is completely stripped. Not slightly worn. Not "a little rough." Completely stripped. So now there are only two possibilities: 1. I was told it had been adjusted when it hadn't. 2. The person adjusting it didn't recognize that the nut was already destroyed. Either way -- that's unacceptable. If it was dishonesty, that's trash service. If it was incompetence, that's also trash service. Had I been told, "Hey, the truss nut is stripped," I could have made an informed decision. I could have negotiated the price, replaced the nut myself, or walked away. It's not an expensive part. It's not a complex fix. What matters is transparency. Used gear is one thing. Misrepresentation -- whether intentional or careless -- is another. That's the real issue here. read more

Even after receiving an email from their portal that "someone would get back to me within 24 hours" - I have heard nothing. I was in the market for a new acoustic, and wanted, in particular, a Martin. Decided to swing past Guitar Center and see what they had. I walk in, and there was only one guy working. I told him what I was looking for, and asked if I could play a few to see if I liked anything. He lets me in the acoustic room and leaves me to my playing. I grab the one and only Martin off the wall and strum it and......it's absolute shit. Like, sounds like a toy ukulele. It's fret buzzing and the tuners are wonky. Apparently, they let the clientele just straight ABUSE the $900 test guitars. I figured I would just try the Taylor that was on the wall, but THAT one was locked. I look, and apparently every guitar except the obviously damaged Martin, and two other cheap-os were locked up. I go to see if I can get the guy to unlock some more, but when I come out, he's dealing with a group of people, and again, was the only employee there. So, I just peruse the electric selection, which is basically just a HUGE wall of the same guitar 60 times, then another of the same guitar 20 times, then another of the same guitar 18 times, etc. I will say, as a place to BUY a guitar, I was thoroughly unimpressed. But as a place to TRY a guitar, it was a little better. Sure their Martin acoustic was ABYSMAL, but they seem to be real laid back about letting you grab something and give it a whirl. read more

We walked in here the Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend when it was pretty busy, knowing absolutely nothing, to buy a beginner his first guitar. Quickly overwhelmed we asked for help and Vince was sent to us. It would have been easy for him to be condescending or pushy and he was neither. He asked thoughtful questions, gave good answers even to our most basic questions, and was more concerned about my budget than we were! Pro: Great service from this establishment! I admit that it's tough for me to write a review on a large commercial chain. The enormous size of a business makes their operations seem like a lot of "givens" with regard to their product value. What makes one place stand out from the other is the service one receives with their patronage. This leads me to give a very big shout out to sales associate Chris, who was amazing in all my ventures to the Cherry Hill Guitar Center! He is not only knowledgeable about the products he sells; he also took the time to explain the benefits and differences in product options. Whether it was the best "bang for the buck" when considering studio monitors, the potential loss of sound quality when bridging XLR cables, or why the Electro Voice PA speaker was a better choice than its rival from Mackie Thump, Chris definitely smoothed out the purchasing process for me! He also was quick to apply discounts for military members and talk to his hierarchy about offering complimentary products as a consolation for opting for an extended warranty. BIG THANKS to Chris for everything! Con: As a "bedroom DJ" who occasionally plays at events as a favor for colleagues, this is a potentially expensive habit! I need to make more money! Have to say very disappointed in this store today when in looking for a few things....not one person said hello or even how can I help you.....used to go here all the time but you lost this customer today...went right up the sidewalk to Sam ash were the were polite and knowledgeable and did I say cheaper by $10 on the couple things I needed. I went in there were about 3 workers . None said "hi how are you ? let us know if you need help" I was shopping around for a guitar. Went to the guitar section was in the store for like 20 minutes no one came to ask me if I needed help. they stood around talking not doing what they were hired to do. as I was leaving None of them said " thanks have a good day ". I went to Sam Ash in the same plaza had a better experience. They acknowledge the people who walk in and ask if I needed help. They got my business. I play and collect guitars but my trips to GC are limited to buying strings only when I need them right away (guitars I buy I setup myself and sometimes run out of strings)...couple things you need to know before going into a GC...expect a lot of punk kids working for min wage....expect to be hounded by punk kids if you even appear to be browsing (for this reason I usually stand by a register)....and if you buy in-store you'll be getting ripped off. If you can make it past those barriers, by all means, go to GC. LOL Guitar Center corporate is in a cash crunch and probably will end up closing down at some future date. There are two positive aspects to the business model for consumers: 1. their return policy, 30 days no questions asked, pretty good. 2. Their huge used gear online search. Most of the stuff they list will be overpriced (and their descriptions/pictures suck), but it's worth looking through their huge inventory of used gear. The place is so poorly managed you can usually find a few incredible, mispriced deals. If you're not rocking you're not living. Please maintain some standards in your life. JMP read more

I recently got back into music again after a long hiatus and have been in this store a number of times over the last year, purchasing various things including an expensive guitar. I am impressed with the staff in this store. They are all so friendly and helpful. I don't get the usual "too cool for you" vibe that can sometimes exist in music stores. The guys in repairs are particularly nice and helpful. The last time I was in there, Alex fixed my guitar issue on the spot, which I really appreciated. Going to update my review since Jesse the manager helped me out after seeing my review (their insurance and return policy still sucks though for the record). He ended up replacing the $500 mic and told me I will probably have to replace it yearly (which is a lot but that was not the expectation set when I first purchased it). He did everything he could to get me a new one and it was much appreciated. -------------------------------------------- I would give no stars if I could. I own a fitness studio and I have purchased THREE mic systems from them since sept 2015. Their policy sucks as you must break it to get a replacement vs the equipment malfunctioning. THREE MALFUNCTIONING MICS and a "well you'll have to buy another one." The last one I bought was over $500 and I was told "you'll never need another one." GO ELSEWHERE read more

Negotiated price was fair, and they replaced a faulty switch at no charge when I brought it back in, while I waited. I've shopped here for decades and I've never once had a bad experience. The guitar selection is better than Sam Ash and associates allow you to browse without hounding you. If you need something, they'll be happy to help. If you have a question, just ask. The guys in the repair department have helped me out on a number of occasions. They've even stopped what they were working on to fix things for me for free or give me spare parts if they had them at no charge. Try getting that kind of service from their competitors and see what happens. For a big box store, this is pretty much as good as it gets. Just don't try selling your gear to them. They'll lowball the hell out of you as all big box chains will. read more

Over priced and horrible customer service! I ordered a technics turntable headshell 3 weeks ago and I still haven't received the item yet. They said "It shouldn't take long and we will call you". BULLSHIT! DO NOT HAVE THEM ORDER ANYTHING FOR YOU!! First of all, you have to make a full payment of the ordered item in the store and they do not ship it to your house. put my guitar in for a set up on oct 12 and it is now nov18 still not done, i called 3x during this ordeal the first time about 2 weeks ago and was told that some employee's were sick, ok understandable it happens. the 2x a week later called again and was told again that employee's were sick but the guy told me he would get around 2 it 2day or the next day ok fine. now another week later 2day, i called again too see where they were at on this it sounded like the same employee that told me the week b4 that he was going to do it that day or the next and guess what? now i am next on the list says it will b done 2day or 2morow. whats going on here gc??? i personally think they should knock at least 10 bucks off the price 4 the service. if not done by 2morow i take my biz to sam ash as everyone told me too do so in the first place. if they can not knock some cash off, then i will b doing biz with the neighbor mr. sam ash couple doors down! read more

I make all of my major purchases (guitars, lighting, pa) at this specific location. I've never had a problem that they couldn't easily remedy. It is a very comfortable environment to browse and shop. I highly recommend purchasing the equipment protection plan with any big purchase; it has saved me hundreds of not thousands over the years! read more

Dorks! I bought a used guitar over the phone with a guy named "Izzy". This guy had me repeat my address three times, but still screwed it up. Then when he sent me the confirmation, my address was still screwed up. So, I called the Guitar Center to make sure that my correct address was on the package so that when it shipped, it went to my house. They assured me they would change the address. Just to double check, I called the next day when I received the tracking number to make sure they had the right address on the package. They assured me that they did. Guess what, the guitar didn't come to my house because there was "no such address". So, I call, and low and behold they didn't change the address like they assured me that they did. So, my guitar is now floating around some UPS warehouse and lost and hot in this crazy summer heat. P.S. No offer for a partial refund, discount, anything. Great customer service. I was told to, "sweat it out and wait" by the manager. read more
