One of our deciding factors was the fact that Buckboard is actually a restaurant here in San Diego, so their food was not just "wedding food" but actually restaurant quality. We fell in love instantly after our tasting. Knowing they are a local San Diego restaurant gave us so much confidence in food quality, and they absolutely delivered. Their service on the day of our wedding was seamless. It felt like everything was handled effortlessly, which allowed us to enjoy the day stress-free. My husband and I planned our wedding on our own and one of the biggest reliefs for us was that Buckboard took care of so many details - from linens, plates, and bar service to the propane for the heaters. Having one point of contact for everything was a great aspect. We truly didn't worry about their services at all day of. Buckboard's familiarity with our venue was another huge plus. We started with the beef carpaccio and then had the penne with salmon and spaghetti with meatballs. Everything was excellent. And the ridiculously affordable $5 Old Fashioneds were a very pleasant surprise. What really stood out, though, was the service. I have been to restaurants that cost five times as much without receiving this level of service. Ryan was our main server and was excellent. When we asked for recommendations, he told us what he personally liked rather than simply pointing us toward the more expensive items. He checked on us throughout the meal without being intrusive, and we had a chance to chat with him along the way. During one of those conversations, it came up naturally that we were celebrating a special occasion. Ryan quietly took note. At the end of dinner, he surprised us with a piece of cheesecake, along with an entire message painstakingly written across the plate in raspberry sauce. It was completely unexpected and a really thoughtful touch. The staff also worked extremely well as a team. Zack came by with an actual block of Parmesan and a grater rather than the pre-grated cheese you see at a lot of restaurants, and Haley was there to help with various things throughout the evening (yes, we asked for their names to include here). It never felt like anyone was concerned about whose table it was. If something needed attention, someone took care of it. At one point I jokingly told Ryan that he should be the manager. He immediately gave credit to Jessica, who is the actual manager, and said she's a big part of why the staff operates the way they do. Based on our experience, it shows. Everyone was friendly and personable while still being very professional. I was so happy with the experience that I doubled my normal gratuity, something I reserve for truly exceptional service. We found Mediterraneo completely by chance, but it ended up being a great find. Excellent food, very reasonable prices, a nice atmosphere, and especially impressive service. I was able to take parts of his regular menu and turn them into appetizers, which he and his staff served separately and were well-prepared to do. For those interested, we had mixed fruit and lumpia trays with spicy sweet and sour sauce. Our mains were Kalua pig with cabbage, Hawaiian BBQ chicken, pancit, macaroni salad, and an Asian garden salad. I was getting compliments left and right (not that I deserved them- Brian and his cooks and servers did) about the quality of the food. Everything was delicious (especially the meats- oh my goodness the slow cooked pork and the flavors on that chicken!) I saw a few guests clutching his business cards as they left like they wanted to keep him as their own little secret. I hadn't sampled the food before booking and was going on faith, but I'm glad I chose the caterer that I did. I was the sole event organizer, and I really liked that Brian made a point to contact me at least twice leading up to the event to confirm and hash-out every detail of the event's proceedings. I was also thankful that Brian made a point to find me and insist myself and my father (the other focus of the event) eat some plates he had made for us. On the day of the party, Bryan and his team showed up early to look at the space and decide where to set up. The team was back a couple hours before party time and by the time my guests arrived everything was ready to go. The presentation was gorgeous and the food was exceptional!! Everyone was raving about it. The best part for me was the full service from set up to clean up. By the time they left, you would never know they were there... except for the neatly boxed leftovers!!
