Terrible service with lousy food. Had to ask twice to get coffee after other diners had their cocktails. Came for brunch. Ordered smoked trout salad and was informed moments before everyone else's food was ready that I would have to wait another 20 minutes because they ran out of trout and did I want something else. I ordered fried eggs and toast. Two diners of four got their meals. 10 minutes later, another meal came, and 5 or so after that, the eggs but not the toast. Toast came 10 min later and was burnt(!). Decent restaurant with good food. It is quite loud in here! I had the salmon whereas my husband had the roasted chicken breast. Delicious!! There was so much flavor. I think it was the first time I saw my husband demand more vegetables, because the sauce they used was incredible. The only thing was that because it was loud I think the waiter had a hard time hearing us because he gave us the wrong appetizer; although, it ended up being free anyways. Good drink selection as well. They do have an outdoor section with heating. I'd like to sit out there next time. read more

I had only went there with the intent to have a cocktail but got the Thai peanut Brussels sprouts....they were good paired with their house manhattan. The ambiance was great to grab a cocktail alone or with a friend or group. Beautiful decor and staff always look presentable and a few greet you like your long time friends :) read more

Much like the other reviewer who took her mother on Mother's Day and the service needed improvement, I took my husband and son for Father's Day. We were early so the young hostess told us to come back. Ok fair. We come back on the dot, and she asked us if we have a reservation. We say no, to which she responds by stating that she can't seat us in the empty restaurant and tells us to step aside so she can help the family who just walked in. This restaurant needs to figure out how to make a first impression and it's not with a hostess who does not know how to take care of walk-ins. The infuriating part is when she talks thru us and looks at us like an annoyance. Come on! You know it's Father's Day. Don't you think a little nicer treatment would have been better served? The food is good. Our waitress and the rest of the servers were great. When we spoke to the assistant manager, he reasoned poor service with the fact the hostess is in high school! We've had mixed experiences with Guildhall over the years. Both service and food have been spotty. However, it was super convenient for a late dinner following a show at Writer's Theatre. This was the second time in a row that I have ordered their fish n chips... and it is fantastic. The fish, the coleslaw, the potato wedges... really every component is amazing. May be my favorite fish n chips on the North shore. My wife also enjoyed her tortellini dish, and our drinks were solid. We'll continue to stop in for some battered goodness now and then. read more

Guildhall is a beautiful restaurant right on downtown Glencoe. There is seating inside and outside on the street front. The inside is very large and beautifully decorated. Outside is more casual but nice to see people walk about. I had dinner with my dad and we chose to sit outside because it was such a lovely day. Our waiter was very attentive and came to take our drink orders immediately. We only had water and looked over the menu. Food: Burger: cooked perfectly and had a bit of twist with mozzarella cheese! Very tasty and great side of fries Ahi tuna crudo: it was a great light dish. The tuna were set on top of large pieces of avocado. The tuna itself was a little tough and didn't melt in your mouth as I would have liked, but the flavor was excellent. read more

The food is mediocre and over-priced and the restaurant seems to suffer from carelessness and ignorance. Last night the branzino came as 2 tail pieces when it was described as a filet. It tasted fishy and very salty and I (generally healthy) developed fairly severe GI pain/problems shortly after eating it. Last time I tried the restaurant via takeout early in the pandemic we got among other items an expensive side of "haricot vert" that turned out to be the worst large tough dry green beans rather than the delicate small special beans described. The restaurant is fairly attractive and upscale looking but the music is very loud, too loud for comfortable conversation. There was a plastic glass with a lid and straw under the table. The stomach cramps were the last straw and I won't be back. read more

I'm not a foodie so maybe I'm not well "qualified" to review an upscale restaurant like Guildhall, but from the perspective of this average guy (and my 3 lovely 'average guy' guests) the food and service just wasn't anything to write home about - with one exception: the butterscotch salted Carmel pudding (wow!). My salmon was burnt on the outside and generally rather bland (like the main courses of my friends). If the food was maybe 2 stars the ambiance was more like a 4 so overall we'll give a 3....but we won't write home about it. read more

This place had very good food and average service. It's pricey, but that's what you expect for Glencoe. What let it down for us was the ambiance. I went there tonight with my wife, hoping for a romantic meal. We had a reservation, and were shown to a table between an occupied 2 top and an empty 4 top, this was towards the front of the restaurant. There was a gap of just 5-6" between the tables. Everything was fine until our apps arrived. The table of 4 turned up and was seated to our left. After that point everything just deteriorated. My wife was bumped and jostled by the staff serving them for the rest of the evening. One of the newly arrived guys to our left had his volume turned up to 11, and didn't seem to take a breath all evening. We were treated to continual, and amazing narratives such as: "I WENT TO A CUBS GAME IN DETROIT AND WE WERE TALKING ABOUT ARETHA FRANKLIN AND THE GUY BEHIND ME HAD NEVER HEARD OF HER, AND I SAID DUDE, WTF, ARE YOU EVEN FROM DETROIT???" You get the idea... We ate the rest of our meal in silence, since we couldn't hear a word the other was saying, paid and left. The waiter did check in with us at one point and asked how everything was. I replied "not good, it's way too loud, and gestured toward the loud dude". The waiter just smiled and left us to it. Even without that one person, this place is loud and the tables are way, way too close. You're basically sharing a table with your fellow diners, so bad luck on you if they're loud and obnoxious. If you're thinking of going and actually having a conversation, I'd be careful to look around and pick out where you want to sit, or go at a quiet time. read more

I am struggling with this place, and want to give it a higher score, but the food drags it down a little. We had a party of six, and a good mix of food selections. The trouts looked great, but were overcooked. Both guys who ordered the pork wished they had ordered burgers. I had fish and chips, which was good, but bland and bready. I wish I had ordered the burger. Salmon was nice preparation, but dry. On a high note, I had two of the best Manhattans ever. So this means babes and I are going to go back, by ourselves, and have burgers, because they looked awesome, and some cocktails. The place is very pretty, and the energy is hopping. My friend and I came here for late lunch after bridal gown shopping nearby. We were out of towners (from Ann Arbor) and fell in love with the ambience. Our server, Carlos, was exceptional, and the food and drinks were fantastic (bloodys and 'mosas, yes and yes). Management (or someone who thinks they are management) seemed a little stuffy, but I get it. This is a classy establishment, and rowdy Ann Arborites that we are, we stuck out quite a bit. We came back for a night cap after bringing some joy and merriment to the nearby wine bar, and we were kindly given copious amounts of water as we clearly didn't need any more drinks. Carlos made sure we had a safe way back to our airbnb in Lincoln Park (who comes all the way to Chicago to get drunk in the sleepy suburbs when we were staying in an area that could easily accommodate our rowdiness? My friend and me, as it turns out), and I'm sure the stuffier management folks were happy to see us go. Nonetheless, we had a fabulous time. So shout out to Carlos, Luis, and the other bartender whose name I can't recall because wine--you were lovely, kind, and very easy on the eyes. Glencoe is lucky to have you. read more

Judging by all the reviews, the North Shore is desperate for a trendy place to dine. The only thing upscale about this place is the prices (Almost $100 per person). The service was snooty, sloppy and slow; we waited 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged, water glasses were filled haphazardly to overflowing nearly dousing our table, drinks were forgotten and food was spilled on one of us (all with no explanation or apology). Waiter was obviously overburdened, taking no time to explain dishes or preparation and offered nothing in the way of service or personality one would expect from a restaurant charging such ridiculous prices. To be fair, the food was OK; nobody at our table even commented on it as it was just passable. The portions were uniformly small and drastically overpriced (the desserts were the smallest portions I've seen in 25 years.) The decor and ambiance is crowded and noisy to the level of being prohibitive to conversation. All in all, seeing the crowd here made me wonder if they knew how much better they could do in Evanston or downtown. read more

Really disappointed by this place. I guess it appeals to the more conservative palates of the North Shore crowd: everything felt a little stuffy and dated. The decor was nice, if maybe trying too hard. The wait staff wore uniforms that screamed "look at us, we're what would have been cool and fancy in the nineties!" The menu is that kind of California gourmet stuff that would never fly in Chicago proper these days: lots of seafood done up with sauces that kinda taste like salad dressing, sides of crunchy vegetables and microgreens. I had the salmon, which was meh, and it fit the description in the previous sentence; the campanelli which was actually pretty good; and a salad that was puzzling, and not in a good way: it was greens and radishes, with essentially no dressing. I felt like a rabbit eating it. I'm not familiar with other North Shore dining options past what Evanston has, so maybe this is the best you can do in the area. But to someone who spends a lot of time at hipper Chicago places, the whole thing felt dated. read more

I would like to like Guildhall more than I do. I've been there twice now, under two very different sets of circumstances. The first time I went I was part of a group of eight women, and we were celebrating someone's birthday. The second time I went I was part of a group of four, and we had made a reservation to coincide with the attendance of an art gallery show. My thoughts are applicable to each evening: 1. This place is unbearably loud. It's a big space, and when it's at capacity, it is deafening. 2. The prices are at the upper end. 3. The portions are the smallest end. 4. The food is good, but at no time did anyone I was with rave over their food. 5. The service was off both times. The first time it was hard to get service, and the second time I wanted to slap our server upside the head because he simply could not be near our table without trying to up-sell us. He visibly frowned and shook his head when I said, for the second time, that NO, I did not want to start with a salad. 6. We had to wait longer than usual for our reserved table. The first time we waited for about 20 minutes. The second time we waited for a half an hour. In summary, Guildhall could be FABULOUS. But it's not. read more

Oh the joys of the holidays! I received a wonderful Christmas gift from a coworker, a gift card to Guildhall in Glencoe. I had never heard of this restaurant before, but I am VERY happy I received this gift...for a handful reasons: 1. I love free food. For some reason, food just tastes better when you don't have to open your wallet. 2. The LOCATION. Guildhall is in downtown Glencoe, smack dab in the heart of the North Shore. Since Ashley and I live right off 41 in Lake Bluff, it was a quick ride to start our evening. 3. The SCENE. It's very tough to imitate the buzz of a city restaurant in the suburbs, but Guildhall does just that. The energy in the building was electric. Everyone was in a good mood. It was kind of weird walking in quiet little downtown Glencoe and then opening the door to a rush of warmth and energy, but it made us that much more excited for our dinner. 4. The FOOD! Now, here is the warning. We're talking about downtown Glencoe...North Shore...new/newer restaurant...GLENCOE (did I mention that?). So the prices are a little AHHH!!!! However, the food we did order (two Guildhall burgers, a beer, a glass of wine, and the Farmers Market Crisp) was so F*ing delicious. This is no joke. While eating my burger, I thought to myself, "I don't want this to end." Not even a minute later, Ashley said "I'll be said when this burger is gone." It is cooked perfectly, with the freshest ingredients I think I've ever had, and plated like a gourmet restaurant. The hand-cut fries were delicious and they are served in a cast-iron "skillet?" kind of thing. It was awesome. So worth the money. 5. The SERVICE. Numerous times we had other servers approach our table asking if we needed anything. Some might see that as incompetence from our actual server, but I saw it as a team of servers working together to make sure the customers were taken care of. All in all, this restaurant was a breath of fresh air. We will definitely be back! read more

I was excited to try out this new hip joint on the North Shore with a friend and colleague. We decided to grab a drink before a quick evening work shift down the road. I thought it would be busy on a Saturday night, so decided to make a reservation on OpenTable. In the reservation notes, I made clear that we were looking to grab a couple of seats at the bar to enjoy a quick drink. My friend arrived shortly before me and informed the host that we had a reservation for two at the bar, to which she was invited to "enjoy herself." I arrived a few minutes later and was dismayed to find that there was no space for us to sit at the bar. Upon consulting with the host stand, we were gruffly informed that the dining room was at capacity. I then inquired as to the purpose of our reservation, if we could apparently not be accommodated whatsoever. After this rather unpleasant encounter, we were at last seated at a small table for two. The waiter was very friendly, the drinks were superb, and the ambiance was equivalent to that of Chicago's finest modern eateries. We did not have time to enjoy any food, but I would be eager to sample the menu. It is truly a shame that an otherwise outstanding culinary gem of Glencoe is hampered by a rude and presumptuous host staff. Also, I wouldn't recommend Guildhall for anyone who might consider themself a millennial. Surely, it's no surprise that a restaurant in Glencoe would be frequented by successful, middle-age couples, but as a pair of 20-something friends who grew up on the North Shore, we received countless unfriendly stares that further negatively impacted our dining experience. I hope that the management of Guildhall will address these concerns relating to the host staff and reach out to me for a resolution to this unpleasant experience. read more

Can I tell you how happy I am that Guildhall has opened in Glencoe. Finally a city-worthy dining destination here in my backyard. I'm liable to award 5 stars just for the novelty of having a good restaurant that I want to go to, rather than just tolerate, on the Northshore. But wait....there's more. The bar is absolutely fantastic, with a limited but excellent selection of house cocktails curated by a veteran of The Violet Hour, so you already know I'm a happy guy. I can already hear you asking, "so, how was the Manhattan?" It was terrific - barrel aged and made with Rye - smooth, flavorful and just perfect. Plus, they have a generous pour philosophy, so that's a bonus. The bar itself is lovely and, dare I say it, rather sophisticated. I'll be stopping in often. They've also got an americano on the menu (a take on a negroni) so I'll be trying that once the weather is warm enough to incorporate non-brown liquors into my diet. We had a couple of delicious bites while drinking contentedly at the bar. The Frito was outstanding - a small delicious basket of quick fried shrimp and calamari with a terrific aioli. Also delicious was the burrata with an interesting housemade giardinere. Service at the bar was attentive and quick even though the place was packed to the gills. Very happy Guildhall has landed here so my dining experience no longer has to suffer if i don't feel like travelling into the city. read more

I don't get it. I would be the first to admit if it's the service, the food, or the ambience of a place that didn't reach my satisfaction but in the case of Guildhall, it's all of the above. We came for a late dinner last night at 9:30 p.m. and you would think it was the 7:30 rush time - well, that's a good sign; the place is vibrant. But the noise level would make you think you were in a public market and any conversation, especially intimate ones, would be impossible. We checked in and the hostess was unapologetic about stating that our table wouldn't be ready for another 15-20 minutes. So we sat at the bar, ordered a drink and as soon as the drinks were ready, she came to tell us that our table was ready...hmmm.... Our waitress came, said "I don't know how long you've been waiting but do you want to order your starters now?" Huh? That was the strangest of all greetings. Then she disappeared and we constantly had to either look for her or rely on the busboys to get us what we needed. That was pretty much her pattern the whole evening. I am somewhat gifted with the inability to hide my feelings so sensing that I was really annoyed by her ineptness, she was more than glad to get rid of us and was almost surprised that we wanted to look at the dessert menu. I must be really frustrated to avoid my favorite dessert which appeared on their menu - panna cotta, but I didn't want to stay there a moment longer. When our conversation during date night, which is sacred in my opinion, had to include constant comments about how we hated this place, I knew that it was time to go. Oh and as for food. We started with the crudo with slices of thick fish (that could've been fresher), it should have been called sashimi. It sat on the middle of the table as we waited for our waitress who never brought us plates to use. We finally started eating when a busboy nearly whisked it all away thinking we were already done! Umm...put the plate down, buddy; I understand how confusing it must be for us not to touch our food but since we were raised with manners, we thought we'd wait for plates instead of simply poking the fish with our forks. We had to resort to the latter. Entrees came and the hubby's lamb was bland - it's just basic seasoning, folks - salt and pepper. Steak frites had an inferior cut of meat that made me wish I just ordered pasta. When our waitress finally checked in on us halfway through the meal, I reminded her that the side dish of creamed spinach had yet to arrive. She clearly did not place the order because it didn't come until 15 minutes later; I was already done with my meal and do you think she mentioned why it was late? Nah...admit her faults? That's crazy thinking! I understand the excitement of having a restaurant that many described as a city-worthy venue, but first impressions are everything and frankly, another 20-30 minutes drive and I would be in the city- with many establishments that have great food and better service. read more

Review for breakfast only: Browsing Open Table on Saturday morning, I discovered this super stylish restaurant in downtown Glencoe. They open at 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday. It was a warm and sunny day and the windows were wide open. There were also many tables set up on the sidewalk for alfresco dining. Arrival: We got there precisely at 10 and the hostess was ready for us, with a smile on her face. Service: All the servers were polite and friendly. Their uniforms are very modern, with cute colorful bowties. Our plates were cleared away in very timely manner. The server checked on us several times, asking if we would like more coffee, hot water, etc. Food: The House Made Mexican Chorizo and Hominy Hash was fantastic. The Chilaquiles were tasty as well, but the hash took the prize for sure. Drinks: Nice selection of brunch cocktails. Also a large selection of hot tea. The coffee was strong. Management: A gentleman who I believed was the manager, stopped by our table to ask how everything was going. Very nice. The only downside is that almost every item was carb heavy, with lots of wheat. So if you are gluten free, doing Paleo, or avoid carbs in general, you will have less options to choose from. read more

The first thing that I will say is that my wife and I would probably have not come here had we not received a gift card to have dinner here. We are not cheap, we just have pre-teenagers at home that need constant nourishment and the price of our dinner here could provide a few meals at home. With that being said, we will dine here again and I would not think twice about the price because the food was phenomenal. For starters we had the Frito Misso (Calamari). Best I have ever had. Light, crispy and flavor-able with what I believe was a lemon aioli as a dipping sauce. My wife had the homemade spaghetti as her entree and when you have fresh made pasta you always wonder why you can't make it at home. We all know why, because it easier to buy it in a box. I had the short-rib entree which was so tender that it fell apart with the fork. Nice roasted potato's and leeks that were excellent. Wish I could tell you what we had for dessert (not on the regular menu) but my wife had a beautiful chocolate dessert and I had Polenta pound cake with frozen greek yogurt. Not as sweet as my wife but nice. Other reviewers stated that the place is loud and people are stuffy and typical North Shore. Didn't see that. People were really nice and seemed to be involved in their own conversations and not to worried about being SEEN. Staff was very welcoming and our server Pepe was the best. I think that this is a great restaurant (beautiful inside) in a nice little Northern suburb. I think people come here with the notion that because it is Glencoe and people have a little bit more coin than others that it means that the area is snobbish. Not so. Will you see cars that are $90,000-yes, million dollar homes-yes but there are nice people here. This is coming from a guy who was born and raised Chicago Southside. I felt very comfortable. I'm not sure what all of the hype is all about. After my 3rd visit to Guildhall, I felt compelled to write this review. I met 3 friends last night for dinner and drinks. First of all, we started at the bar by which the bartender was rude and rushed. She was annoyed that we were taking our time decisions big what to drink. Once seated, the waitress recited the specials and kept pressuring us into ordering ASAP. (Our reservation was for 7 pm). Don't know what all the hurry was about. We decided to share multiple salads,appetizers and entrees amongst the 4 of us. It was comical how small the portions were. One of the entrees that we split a ravioli dish that had only 4 small pieces. The salads were devoured in 3 bites. What a waste of money. We all left feeling hungry. The only reason that I gave guildhall one star is for the decor. Too bad. Don't judge a book by it's cover. We won't be back!! read more

I was so pleasantly surprised with how wonderful a job Guildhall has done to accommodate patrons during the pandemic. The service is top notch, and their willingness to make everybody as comfortable as possible really shines through. The meal is always great here, but the servers ability to deliver impeccable service really stands out. From individually wrapped blankets straight from the dry cleaner, to space heaters at every table, and the recent addition of greenhouse spaces. A ray of light that will keep us happy throughout the winter! read more

Glencoe is a charming little town and right at its center is the Guildhall Restaurant - and what a lovely find it is! Friday night, 8pm, and it was hopping! Loud, most definitely, but happy loud; vibrant, brash, ... raucous even! Folks knew folks, tables cross-chatted with other tables of 'near strangers' - some flirty, some cheeky, some serious but all charming and relaxed. Everyone seemed to soak up the atmosphere and leverage its benign but wholly-addictive energy for good conversation amongst wonderfully flavorsome food. The large windows threw out to some half-dozen sidewalk tables which were equally busy ... and the sound of the joint traveled up and down the heart of Glencoe and seemed to invite even more spontaneously traffic. Terrific service. Fascinating menu that included fun lamb dishes, plenty of seafood concoctions and unpredictable combinations of pastas, shellfish and sexy sauces ;-) I liked it. A lot. read more

Giving 3 stars for the noise level, tight seating and dessert. Went last night for Valentines Day, we live up on the north shore, it's about a 10 min drive, convenient not to drive into the city on a cold busy night. I didn't read reviews on Yelp, but had a recommendation from a friend who frequents. I was hoping for a cozy romantic dinner with good food. (If you've been to Big Jones in Andersonville, I was thinking similar). We got there and were seated right away, they can check your coat, which is great for the winter, the seating is *very* tight. We sat at a table for two, with one seat on a long banquette, you know the kind, where they need to move the table aside for you to get in, while you're hoping your ass doesn't swipe your neighbors wine glass? Yeah. It is also very very loud. I can tell you in detail our neighbors orders and conversation bc we all had to yell to each other. They did have a packed restaurant though. We actually stopped talking with each other bc it was just too damn hard to hear. (Not romantic) Thank god I can read lips or I wouldn't know what my waiter was saying at all. Did I mention it's loud? The wait staff was friendly, our food arrived promptly, my husband got the pork chop, it was delicious, I was slightly jealous. I got the mushroom cavatelli pasta, with shredded chicken. It was ok. I was expecting a creamy sauce and it was a broth. Eh. We both had a salad as well, I had the beet salad, it had green beans, marcona almonds, and a tasty dressing. Needed a little goat cheese, but that's a personal preference! Hubby got the equivalent of a house salad, with a Parmesan dressing, also was tasty. I was ok with the serving portions, didn't find them too small. Although the pork chop didn't come with a side, that was a la carte. Went with the special dessert for v day, small doughnut holes rolled in cinnamon sugar with a chocolate sauce on the side for dipping. Waste of money. They were cold doughnuts (why!?), and about 1/2" in diameter. There were about 8, so enough, but really really disappointing. I thought they were going to be like beignets, they were more like cold, slightly deflated, wrinkled grocery store/dunkin donuts. Gross. read more

Decided to give this place a try after an early show at Writers Theater. It was a warm evening so we asked to be seated outside. We were shown to a table and handed menus but there weren't any place settings. After a while our waiter came by to ask what we would like to drink. I just asked for a glass of water with lime. Hubby echoed that. A bit of time passed and he delivered two lime wedges but we had no water. We waited a while longer and finally someone came by with two glasses that he filled with water. We added the limes ourselves. We decided to split a strawberry salad. I ordered the chicken and hubby the halibut. First they came with some bread and butter but we still had no place settings so we couldn't spread any butter. We had to flag someone down to get two place settings. The strawberry salad arrived in one large bowl. We told the waiter that we planned to split the salad, it would have been nice if they had done that in the kitchen for us. He did bring us two plates so we divide it ourselves. It was a bit difficult to do with only a knife and a fork. The salad though was very good. Not overly sweet and I loved the goat cheese in it. It was difficult to find many of the nuts though. When they cleared the salad plate they removed my only fork, which is normal but usually this is kept track of and replaced. It wasn't here. My chicken arrived and I had no fork. I asked for one and instead of just delivering the fork, they plopped down an entire place setting including the napkin. This all seemed odd and out of place for a restaurant of this kind. My chicken was only okay. Frankly though is was moist, the skin seemed a bit burned. The accompanying carrots were over spiced. Hubby's halibut was extremely small for the price. He speculated that maybe they only had a small amount left and decided to make two portions out of only one. Disappointing overall. Great decor inside and nice (quiet) street-side seating if the weather is accommodating. As some other diners pointed out, Guildhall has an urban, downtown feeling in the quiet, quaint 2 block downtown of Glencoe. The noise level indoors is moderately high if that's a concern. Plenty of variety of menu choices along with a couple specials. Portion sizes were modest but certainly acceptable. We think that we should have ordered a side dish of vegetables to make our meal complete. The Halibut dish was tasty as was the fried fish. Our chicken entrees were good although when we asked about gluten free option, our waiter neglected to tell us that the chicken is certainly gluten free - but it's served on pasta. Some interesting dessert choices but we only thought that the lemon bundt cake was exceptional. Prices are like a city restaurant so don't expect a bargain because Guildhall is in the suburbs. Our only disappointment was the service which was average. We'd go back but probably reserve this place for special occasions when we don't feel like driving in to the city. read more

So my husband's super nice co-worker got us a gift certificate here for Christmas. I probably never would've even known this place existed, but I definitely know now! Mike and I both had the burger here, and at the exact same time we said "I don't want this burger to end." It was delicious, from the cheese, to the bacon, to the amazing sauce...and the pretzel bun was a nice touch :) The atmosphere in this place was different, especially for the burbs. It was busy, noisy and very cramped, but we had a nice little table, got our food, had great service and got out. Now that I'm pregnant, these are the things that make my visit worth 5 stars :) read more

The menu has changed and it's a disappointment. But changes happen and maybe it will work out. Biggest issue during our visit: Two of our four entrees arrived cold (grilled lamb) and had to be sent back. When they came back, the cutlets were overcooked-- not prepared as medium, which is what we originally ordered. This is the opposite of what the manager said would happen. Shoddy. The greenhouses are a great idea, so we'll go back. But with reservations -- in every sense of the word. read more

It is very northshore, but hey, it's on the northsore so it's fitting. We dined at 8:15 on a Saturday night and the place was lively and packed. Loved the vibe though I didn't love being squeezed by the bar as we waited for our table since there was no where else to wait. My extremely pregnant sister hardly fit, but fortunately our wait wasn't too long. We had an 8pm reservation for 6, which they screwed up ( they had 9pm down) but guidhall fixed it immediately and found us a table within 10 minutes. Our waiter was attentive and directed us to two great bottles of wine. Lately I've found waitstaff completely ignorant about wine so this was welcomed. On to the food. I loved the roasted carrot salad snd the crudo was amazing. I wasn't terribly hungry so I didn't order an entree but sampled the ones my family ordered. I was underwhelmed by the whitefish but the asparagus and broccolii sides were delicious. It's a great option on the Northshore and I do hope it is here to stay. 4.5 stars, to be exact. I came here for a 5pm dinner on a Saturday. The moment you walk in, you'll be greeted by its absolute fab decor. We were one of the firsts to arrive (they open at 5pm) but the dining hall filled up immediately with fairly older groups mostly in their 40s and 50s. If you are in your 20s and enjoy hot city spots with younger people, Guildhall is definitely not the place to go. The food was very fresh, delivered in a beautiful and appetizing presentation, and remarkably delectable. My friend, a fellow food junkie visiting from Hong Kong, also loved this place and enjoyed all dishes as well as our bottle of bubblies. As for service, I can't complain-- every staff member was kind, friendly, and accommodating-- yet I kept getting the feeling that these people didn't feel very comfortable with what they were doing. Hence the -0.5 stars. I'm guessing it is because Guildhall hasn't been open for very long?? Loved the place nonetheless. Definitely coming back. read more

A beautiful designed interior. Poor service. The wait staff is annoying, they hover over you and grab plates from the table while you are still dining. The rose wines are horrible. The menu is filled with greasy fried food. The bar is probably fun. As a restaurant it fails completely. read more

On this Saturday night Guildhall was jammed in large part with theater goers attending the sold-out and extended Hedda Gabler production. We bumped our 6PM reservation to 6:15 - our first accommodation for this service-savvy business. Seated immediately but sitting for maybe 1-beat too long before being attended, our server was on us and brightly apologized if we'd been sitting too long and immediately took drink orders which were promptly served. We shared the Trout Lyonnaise salad to start. The smoked and entirely boneless trout together with a light dressing and spring greens was delightful and absolutely large enough to be shared between 2 with plenty of trout slices to go around. We followed this sharing the Ricotta Cavatelli and Great Lakes Whitefish. I thought the Cavatelli disappeared in the oversize pasta bowl but it was plentiful and it was plenty rich. My wife thought it had bacon but turned out to be chopped nuts. I thought a good touch. The whitefish was brought to life with a modest topping of eggplant puree and served with more of those spring vegetables. When asked how things were, I indicated, without complaint, that the accompanying greens on the fish plate were way too salty. The response was that the kitchen would be told immediately. A replacement side of greens appeared immediately and without request. Thank you. The only downside - and loss of one "star"- was the intense volume. With hardwood floors, plaster walls and hard ceiling, this re-purposed hardware store environment absorbs nothing. In this full house, conversation across the table was all but shouted and each of us had to lean in to hear. I'm glad it was only two of us as I wouldn't have been able to follow the conversation of a 4-top. Overall the meal was excellent and the service and accommodations were a strong complement to the food. read more

First of all: holy geez it's gorgeous in here. I wanted to move in. I think comparing to a city restaurant's decor wouldn't even do justice to how pretty it is. I would go as far as to say downright regal. Service was friendly and efficient and spot on. Food. Oh My Goodness it was fantastic. Really (not exaggerating) one of the best overall meals I have had in a long, long time. We were a large group of girls and shared a lot of plates. Here is what I remember trying: - Burrata - Salmon tartare - Smoked trout lyonaisse salad - Braised short rib Two different desserts (cheesecake and something chocolatey) All was really amazing.
