Our family was enrolled at this academy for several years. While there were some positive experiences early on, the program ultimately fell far short of what was promised and expected. The most significant issues were staff instability and curriculum changes, which dramatically altered the training experience. The departure of a key instructor our child had a strong relationship with left a noticeable gap, and the program no longer resembled what we originally committed to or paid for. The cancellation and refund process for our paid-in-full, multi-year membership was unnecessarily difficult, confusing and not clearly explained. Contract language was repeatedly cited, but the calculation of "current rates" was neither documented nor verifiable, requiring persistent follow-up and escalation on our part. After years of loyalty, this lack of transparency and responsiveness was deeply disappointing. Prospective families should read contracts carefully, verify all rates and terms in writing, and confirm the stability of instructors and curriculum before committing to long-term or prepaid agreements. The program at Guido's Marshal Arts Academy is amazing! Our 6yo son enrolled after he told us he wanted something other than soccer or baseball (he didn't want to compete against others). So Karate seemed like a good fit. We looked at a few gyms and ultimately settled on Guidos after interacting with the staff at Clovis Night Out. They truly took the time to teach and encourage him and he felt welcome and included from the very first class. As time has gone on, the staff has really helped him improve his confidence and discipline which has also bled over into school work, especially in reading, which was a struggle for him. Before starting at Guidos, he would get very frustrated and want to quit if he was not immediately good at a subject or activity. Now I have very much seen a growth mindset forming where he understands that time and practice is a part of learning any new skill. This is 100% from his time at Guidos! Physically, he has improved flexiblity, coordination, and balance. Watching the classes has also helped me as a parent break down instructions more simply and help encourage his executive function skills, which have improved his listening and following instructions. I've been going to this dojo for I want to say about 3-4 years. I have benefited so much from their classes, not only in strength, but in confidence, personality, perseverance, and overall I just became a better human being. Even with COVID-19, they never gave up and instead they found a beneficial way to make it work. This shows how much they care about their students and work. For example, my friend was going to a different dojo that was very mixed up with people of different ages participating in one class, and non-energetic teachers. This dojo has you train with people your age range, and by doing that, you can make more friends. You can tell the instructors care about the kids and their job, they're very energetic and know exactly how to maintain their attention, and makes them work for what they earn. As a special educator, I am well-aware of the benefits of martial arts but worried about finding a place that would be equipped to support my own neurodivergent 3 year-old. We've been going to Guido's for about six weeks now and the staff has been INCREDIBLE with supporting my daughter. They are so patient and understanding when she has meltdowns on and off the mat. On top of all the typical benefits of martial arts like learning focus and discipline, she is also increasing her tolerance for sensory input. She earned her first stripe last month and sat there staring at it and smiling to herself, obviously pleased with her accomplishment. A lot of ND kids don't get moments like that very often. My sister in law's three boys are enrolled at Guido's and I have had the privilege of attending a couple of sessions while visiting from out of town. You'll seldom meet anybody quite as great with kids as Renshi Mike. He's one of those teachers kids will remember when they grow up as a positive formative influence in their childhood. He both commands and gives respect to the children he teaches, leading while treating them as equal partners in the session. This was one of the Best decisions I've made regarding my Daughter. As a single Dad, I need for her to be able to handle herself in any situation. With so much going on out there, you want to know your child know's what to do in certain situations. And at Guido's she's receiving that knowledge. Sensei Mike is in a class all by himself. He's tough, but he know's how to communicate with All of his students. He has a staff of instructors that are very knowledgeable, second to none. My Daughter loves it, and knows how to deal with bullying, and kids that sometimes say and do things that are inappropriate. She's made many friends, and adopted Family members. My 5 year old son and I began lessons at Guido's almost a year ago. Now my son comes home from school and does his homework and chores on his own. He's more respectful and confident than before. I am a service connected veteran; the teachers worked with me to slowly rehabilitate and strengthen my injured knee. I also found the self dicipline to put down nicotine after smoking for over a decade...I also went for that new job and got it. We love this place! My son started 5 weeks ago and already passed a stipe test, it's all due to his hard work and his amazing leaders. I would definitely recommend this martial arts academy for your child. It's a no nonsense program with fun attached. Within the first month our grandson's 1st grade teacher noticed he was more respectful towards everyone - less poking, less squirming, more focused, more trying to listen.
