Everything is well priced and I found everything I was after, which is fantastic considering the location out here near the end of Long Island. Khanh went out of his way to help save me 4+ hours in the car driving to REI and back which was super helpful and basically saved a whole day of my vacation. The staff is super friendly and helpful - 100/10 - highly recommend and will be back.

Wanna know a shopping secret? If your shopping for Montauk tee shirts, hats, sweaters, signs,…read moreflags, anything to do with Montauk? Come to Kai-Kai first. Why do you ask? Main st is known for getting all of the tourists window shopping. Heck, I even bought a tee shirt at one of the stores on Main St as an impulse buy. Our friends bought a beautiful blanket with the Montauk emblem on it. When we went to Gosman's Doc and stepped inside Kai-Kai? I saw the "same" blanket but was marked down 50% off! 50% is a big savings! Lets do a test. You have twenty bucks in your pocket. Now give to me $10 bucks. Sucks right? Keep your money my Yelp friend! You're taking the time and reading my reviews, I should be able to pass my savings on to you. This store I also need to point out, has quality clothing. Its been my favorite store to shop at for over 25 years. We've purchased items for every member of my family with no complaints. Oh and that 50% blanket? I couldn't let it go! When I fly to Disney in a few weeks, I'll be wrapped up, snug as a bug in a rug. Go Montauk! :D

He ripped off his shirt and wore that sucka with pride. He was running ahead of us at the dock and I heard someone say, did you see that little boys shirt?! Mercy! Yeah, those folks can bite me. This is one of my favorite shirt stores at Gosmans dock. They have quality sweatshirts, hoodies, polar fleeces, tee shirts, towels, bumper stickers and other items to show your Montauk pride. It's funny, when your on Long Island it's no big deal. But when you leave and go on vacation to a place like Disney? Then you're "Mr" Long Island! When I was 30 I wouldn't wear tee shirts much less a Montauk shirt. I always wore polo shirts. Now? I don't care and power to the people. I just bought a Montauk tee shirt with a Jeep on the front. Having experienced this, I hadn't bothered for about ten years and therefore have a backyard full of damaged boards. Island Surf evidently has some magical elf chained in their basement who is the last known craftsman in this trade. I took in a board with dings on the rails, one torn-out fin box (helpful reminder: don't drive over your board with your car), and two crushed "wings" on the swallowtail. Bottom line, this thing would sink in a puddle of spilled milk. The board was returned one day late (one day!! making it the most prompt repair in the history of this industry); the entire tail was rebuilt, looking literally better than new (I didn't ask for this btw); all finboxes replaced (also a bonus). It's no stretch to say it's better than new. The capper was when they handed the board back to me with complimentary wax, fin key, etc. Being a bad surfer, I'm kind of a connoisseur of repair for damaged boards. I can honestly say these guys do the best job I've seen in the US, Asia, etc.

I was very happy that I did. The clothing is traditional preppy style with a bid of a hipster edge. I was quite pleased with the quality of the shirts and the "go to hell" shorts. I purchased three of the former and two of the latter. One of the aspects of this store that was really excellent was the assistance rendered by Norman. Norman is a courtly and friendly gentleman of the old school. He is helpful, has excellent taste and if you ask his opinion, he will be honest. He was quite simply one of the finest sales associates that I have come across in recent memory. He made shopping an absolute pleasure. Norman also provided excellent customer service by tracking down two items that he did not have in stock for me at other stores and arranging for prompt shipment of the clothing. Many sales clerks would simply not even try, Norman went above and beyond. J. McLaughlin has nice casual clothing and is lucky to have such an excellent sales associate in Norman. My experience with Norman will make me a regular visitor to J. McLaughlin!
