    Tres leche

Guatepan has got to be one of the BEST bakeries in Mercer county! My family and I absolutely love this place! There's always fresh homemade bread and Hispanic pastries to choose from. They're open 7 days a week & have multiple locations. Every year for my bday or any family occasion at that, my family gets a tres leche cake. If you've never had tres leche before, it's a spongy, milky, creamy cake topped with fresh fruit. I cannot begin to say how amazingly delicious and beautiful their cakes are! I pinky promise you you will not be disappointed, go get one now!!! Cakes are available for pickup same day which is great since you don't have to order ahead of time.

I ordered a birthday cake (pineapple & creme center with whip cream icing) from this bakery, it was so delicious! The Tres Leches dessert was also really good. I look forward to ordering other pastries and bread from this bakery (the location on Greenwood Ave.). Also the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Give them a try!!

GuatePan Latin American Bakery is a local chain of three bakeries serving the greater Guatemalan and Latin American community of Trenton, NJ. This particular location is the original shop, and it is large enough to have tables for breakfast and lunch. The long display cases are a visual treat with colorful cakes, cookies, rolls and pastries under bright lights that make each come alive with sweets temptation. My Desayuno Tipico Guatepan was a large plate with double fried eggs over tortilla, black beans, platanos, sausage, queso fresa, and salty goat cheese. A choice of toast or tortilla completed the deal. Everything was fresh and tasty, with the combination of flavors and textures competing for attention. It was a fun solid meal to start the day. Too, the coffee was strong and came in a large insulated carafe that never seemed to empty. I left quite full, and unable to consider picking up a few of the beauties behind the counter (speaking of the pastries). The house was full of families enjoying themselves, as well as regular walk in customers picking up their daily dough. It is no wonder that GuatePan has been so successful. They have a large constituency that appreciates the quality of the products the backroom bakery turns out, as well as the clean and friendly atmosphere created for their families to enjoy a repast together. Too bad its sibling stores don't have room for dining, because there is no doubt they would draw like iron to magnets.

There are 5 locations for this bakery, I was actually at the Greenwood ave. one. It has been here 10 years but I did not know about it until very recently. I had a craving for a guava pastry and figured I could find one here. And I did, it was the best I've ever had too. It's a small place with 2 small glass cases. One houses the various turnovers and similar pastries, the other more cake like desserts. I tried something like a strawberry shortcake, and loved it too. There were possibly 15 different items in this case, so it will take a few more visits to try them all. It will be a labor of love. Chocoholics beware, not much to satisfy you. One more plus, I get to practice my Spanish here.

    Baked goods that look amazing.

Keeping my "blinders" on, my mission is to get a few of those famous crispy bakes for my daughter's 26 birthday instead of buying a whole cake. My attendant, Eimau, (hope I spelled correcty, if not, my apologies) was so pleasant and his patience servicing me has me leaving with not only a few bakes, but cake pops, cupcakes and macaroons!! That said, I don't believe in writing a place off after a single average experience, so I decided to give it a second chance. This time, I ordered two different viral crunches along with a croissant. Unfortunately, the results were disappointing across the board. The Mixed Berry Crunchy was cute in presentation, but that was its only redeeming quality. There was no bold--or even subtle--mixed berry flavor. At $10, it felt wildly overpriced and not worth the calories. Next was the Lemon Crunchy, which is supposed to feature a lemon blueberry flavor. As someone who loves lemon, I had high expectations, but once again it was bland and forgettable. Since this is a bakery, I also tried a fresh croissant and asked for it to be warmed. The staff accommodated the request, and it smelled incredible. It was warm, light, and flaky--but sadly, the flavor fell flat. A light brushing of butter on top would have gone a long way. For me, this is strike two. Unfortunately, Lilla Vanilla just isn't worth the money or the calories. Based on my experience--mediocre service on the first visit, bland and overpriced featured items on the second, and only neutral-to-slightly-positive notes on the croissant--I'd rate it 2 out of 5 . I seriously contemplated giving them 1 star but to be fair, the viral crunchy presentation was appealing and the croissant did have good texture (even if the flavor missed).

Many wonderful pies, cakes, cookies, and of course, their famous donuts. I particularly enjoyed their long donuts - perfectly fried, fluffy, filled with vanilla cream, which was smooth and just the amount of perfect sweetness. They do lots of custom orders, and do a lot to support the local schools. I recall seeing nice music themed cookies for sale which were in support of the middle school music program I believe. Very nice. We were lucky enough to meet the owner; she was enthusiastic, helpful and the perfect person to continue the joy of this bakery. Lots of parking side and back. Very much looking forward to our next visit!

While the interiors are modest, they make great use of the little space they have with a bakery counter and tables with a selection of seasonal/holiday treats. They had a decent variety of Easter themed cupcakes, chocolates, and cookies when I stopped in. Since it was my first time there, I asked the staff member what she recommended, and she beamed at me grabbing me a long cream-filled donut. I also got a piece of vanilla crumb cake since that jumped out at me. Both were a solid 4/5, with the cream-filled donut getting a slight edge in the taste department. The vanilla crumb cake was a huge slice, ideal for sharing or splitting up into multiple pieces. Service was friendly and prices on par with other area bakeries, with both items running just under $6 total. While I probably wouldn't venture out of my way to visit again, I would happily return if I was passing through the area in need of baked goods or treats, as I'm happy to support local businesses like these.

I came…read moreacross a post on social media about a magazine naming The Gingered Peach as one of the best bakeries in New Jersey. From there, I gave them a follow on social media and checked out their website. Sadly, the bakery is about an hour from where I live, but it's about 15-20 minutes from where I work. However, they usually close at 3 pm, which means I would be scrambling in right before they close or I may not make it at all. Bummer! Needless to say, I saw they do dessert orders for the holidays, so that was my golden opportunity! For Thanksgiving, I ordered a purple sweet potato pie and a banana pudding pie. I got to select the date that I'd be picking up my pies, which was on a day that I had to go to the office. During the week leading up to Thanksgiving, the bakery was closed for regular operations. They were only open for dessert pick ups. The pies were a hit! The banana pudding pie was everyone's favorite. Needless to say, for Christmas, a larger order was placed for banana pudding pie, salted honey pie, apple crumb pie, and mashed potato rolls. Now for Christmas, the bakery was open for regular operations and you had to pick up your pre-ordered desserts at their sister business, Melba Ice Creamery, around the corner. Because it was Christmas Eve and I already had a slew of sweets pre-ordered, I decided not to try to go to the bakery that day. Nevertheless, the goods were a hit again! The only downside is that the crust on the banana pudding pie was a little different the second time around, making it tougher to slice and get out of the pan. It was still tasty though! Would I return? Absolutely!

In my opinion they taste a bit better once refrigerated for a few hours. The tres leches and strawberry matcha cakes are good as well, again, not too sweet. I'd like to try the soft serve sometime.
