First off, you are greeted by either one or both of the owners, Ryan and Maria. They are always upbeat and a pleasure to be around. They make sure you have everything you need or want (even your choice of music genre). They take the time to go over the safety rules and show you have to access the many features of the simulation equipment. Speaking of the equipment, it is top of the line. where most simulators are mere ground based launch monitors, Virtual Fairways uses the GC Hawk system that employs an over head arch that houses the various lasers, radar and high speed cameras. By having this equipment overhead, Lefty's can play without having to adjust anything. All the basic information is displayed after each shot like other Sims but you get other data only found at high end club outfitters. Ball speed, launch angle, azimuth (degrees off the target line) back spin and side spin RPM. Not that everyone will find all this data useful but I do. They also offer spirits, beer and non alcoholic beverages at less than local pub prices (dont tell them this please) so you get the whole package. This place is tastefully decorated with golf memorabilia and other golf related decor (the bathroom walls are even entertaining). The bays are all well lit at the matts and they provide hi boy seating and cocktail tables to enjoy your adult beverage while not playing and a nice metal rack for your bag and other golf garb. This is truly a great indoor golf experience. After my first visit I decided to get their monthly membership. Ryan and Maria have something special here and I urge all golfers (and non golfers too) to give it a try. Whack some balls, play Pebble Beach, have a beer in the air conditioning.

We had a group go around us and the 3some that was playing in front of us because they were playing so slow. Condition-3 grounds under repair on two holes. Some of the tee boxes were in need of some work. Greens were well maintained but not perfect. Some bunkers had small rocks in them. As someone from Northeast Ohio, Summit county specifically, I've realized just how spoiled we are with quality public courses. However, I will say, Champions gives some of the best courses in our area a run for their money. This course offers some significantly challenging holes while complementing the difficulty with some truly stunning views. While this course didn't have much water there were a fair amount of trees and sand bunkers. Most of the courses played on downhill slopes. There were also several doglegs that presented opportunities to go off the tee with clubs other than driver. On course play alone I would recommend champions but they also come equipped with a newly renovated clubhouse, patio, driving range, and chipping and putting green. The clubhouse staff were cordial but not overlay friendly. Thea starter gave great tips and explanations for the cart path rules. Recommendations to the course staff: The only issue I had with the course was that they had 2 holes with grounds under repair that took up about 30 yards of the fairway. But they did provide signs that let you know how far to get to that area and how far to clear. My issue was that they just hosted the USGA Junior tournament and that had to be an issue for those players.Also, I don't think that any course should be charging the full amount while there's major repairs going on. If I don't get the full experience then there should be some sort of discount. That's just my humble opinion. This is more common practice at courses in northeast Ohio. Overall: I would go back to see the course fully repaired and hope there isn't a ton wind.

Some of the booths seemed kind of shady though, so be careful what you sign up for so that you don't get a bunch of spam. Various teaching pros give demonstrations throughout the day as well. Entry is $9, but you can usually get a $1 off coupon on the website. Admission also includes a free year subscription to GOLF Magazine, so you pretty much recoup your costs right off the bat.

Both Griggs and Hoover are admittedly free, but this is definitely one of those "you get what you pay for" situations. As to the course, they no longer have an attendant or a disc rental option, which is sadface, and they do go by the honor system with a lockbox for payment ($1.50 per round, or $5 all day). The course is well cared for, and no crazy overgrown areas, nor any confusion when it comes time to go to the next "hole." Likewise, the beginning of each hole has a handy dandy picture of the lay out and distances involved. They've added a water fountain at the 9th hole, which is nice, but the water tastes like wet ash (I'm guessing, here), but is wet and colder than I'd have expected. Depending on the size of your party, the course takes only a little over an hour to play through, but be forewarned, there is normally several other groups playing at any given time, so time may vary. Amusing side note, I do believe this was the first time in many a visit where I did not notice any trace of skunkery about (you can figure that out on your own, I trust). There are some interesting layouts that will have you shooting blind to a few holes, but the U-Disc app layout is good. Speaking of that, the app defaults to a par 3, but the course markets at each hole will designate the course par for each hole. 16, 17 and 18 are par 4 by the signs but par 3s on the app. The course is kept up pretty well by the Columbus Parks folks, as they keep the grass cut and trash off the course. 18 holes Cart friendly, but No dogs though. Concrete pads Mach III target holes No restrooms on the course There is a water fountain midway through the course- let the water run for 10 secs to get cold! We followed signs to the course, which could have been a tad better, but we made it. We had frisbees in the car so we were kinda geared up. When you get to the course, there may be discs available for your use left by others. We lucked out by someone's generosity so I borrowed one- just to have options. There is an area before the course starts that you can play a game closer to the "basket" to get some practice. Each hole has a par like regular golf and every hole had its own challenges. It turns out I suck. I threw more of a hissy fit than the frisbee! I still enjoyed walking the course and watching my boyfriend play. It's such a beautiful park and a great way to spend the afternoon outdoors.
