I would say overpriced for what I got. Service felt passive aggressive and generally uninterested. No one checked up on us and when we asked for the check we got ignored. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly, but it took over 10 minutes for a waiter to even come by and take our drink and appetizer order, despite the restaurant not being busy at all. We started off with the guacamole and chips, hoping for something special since "Guac" is in the restaurant's name. Sadly, the guac was very mediocre--definitely not what I expected. A pretty cool place here and glad we saw this and ate. Guac N Tacos is a small casual Mexican joint. It has a few locations including this one in downtown Elmhurst. Has these small tacos but they have big flavor. Try the meaty or the vegetarian. Cool place best for lunch. It's good for when you're not real hungry. The tacos are quite small. Because they have a bunch of different ones it makes it easier to sample a few. We also needed something to drink, so we got Corona from the beer menu. It's $6 a bottle. That's the biggest issue about here. Beer is just too expensive. It seems they make up food costs by doing it. We had some of the Vegan Tacos. It's $3.75 for most flavors. They have ones with mushrooms. Good spice. These are topped with corn and grilled onions. Also has plenty of meaty taco choices. It's not just common proteins like beef or chicken either. It comes served with tortilla chips ( those were not that good) My sister had tortilla soup and she said it was good. She also ordered fish taco and shrimp taco both yummy. My daughter had taco dinner and said the rice was good. This is usually how you can tell the rice and beans if it's good Mexican food. I had the flautas. They were in the skinny side but still good. Okay this place is great! There is another Mexican place right across the street, don't be swayed by the cute patio. The food and drinks are better here. There is outdoor seating in the front of the building. We had tacos and guacamole and really the only small comment was I wanted salt in the guacamole. Super easy fix. My brother mixed his chorizo and pastor tacos and loved them. I had the chorizo and the carnitas. Both were flavorful and full tacos. Also normally I would say I like flour tortillas over corn because they get hard and fall apart (yes I know don't care I like what I like). HOWEVER these corn tortillas stayed soft, didn't fall apart, and had great corn flavor. And the margaritas- yum! I had the spicy habanero and it was spicy. Very basic, quick restaurant. There is about 6-7 2 person tables and overall it is a very small space. This restaurant is good for a quick bite or taking something to go. The guac and chips is only $4.50 which I think is very reasonable, plus you get a huge portion! It's perfect for two-three people to share. The guac was the best thing I've had here. It was very fresh and had tomatoes, onions, and some other ingrediants in it. The chips were fresh tasting as well. My tacos were just ok. I had the chicken tinga taco and added cheese, this taco was pretty flavorful, I would order it again. The pastor taco fell flat for me, the meat was dry and it did not have much flavor. The sizes of the tacos are good, if you had two tacos and a size you should be full. The "amazing corn" was definitley not amazing. This elotes fell flat because they did not drain the corn before putting it in the cup. I literally had a quarter of a cup of mayo water - gross! Plus when the corn is not drained you lose a lot of flavor because it is literally watered down. So drain your corn please!!! Overall this restaurant is a-ok! When walking in you are hit with a very cute / trendy ambiance. We had to walk up to the counter to be seen by the two young ladies standing there. We got to sit at any table. The service was slow and there was only two table myself and another couple. The first young lady that took our order was clearly training and she did ok unfortunately she didn't check on us for refills and then left without checking in with her tables. The Second Lady was not friendly , did not check on us ad isolated herself in the back with the door closed. Very awkward experience. Now , for the food. This is an example of absolutely fantastic tacos , at a reasonable price, with very poor customer service. This review is not based on a single incident, but several visits over the past two months. I'm not sure if this is due to resource constrains or poor mgmt. What I do know is that my wife and I were seated for over 20 minutes and were never offered even a drink. Water was brought to the table, but the two glasses on the table were dirty. Needless to say, we left the restaurant and walked across the street. Again, just today we watched a student wait for over 15 minutes at the counter without being acknowledged. He rang the bell, no response. Another lady walked in and went to the counter and was helped with drinks and the young man stood their patiently. The lady new she was not next and the worker never bothered to ask who was next. I do know that when the owners are here, it's a much different (positive) experience. Please note, this is not an indictment on the quality of food. But the nachos came with no steak with onions and jalapeños. We informed our server and we didn't eat them, however, we were still charged for them. The only food that tasted good was the cheese quesadilla, it comes with fresh made guac, which is really good. The shrimp & fish tacos have tons of pickled cabbage on them + chipotle mayo and it's SO strong, that's all you can taste. Also, the shrimp was so bland and tasted like rubber. Nachos were not good, super bland and had lots of lettuce on them, barely any cheese or beans. We didn't finish any of our food, except for the quesadillas. I was really looking forward to some good shrimp and fish tacos, painfully, got neither here ... When I saw the toppings, I was excited to taste. And there, they did not disappoint. These tacos were flavorful and plenty of toppings and "meat". Unfortunately, I almost called 911 to report the atrocities done to the fish and shrimp. The shrimp?
