As someone born and raised in Augusta, GA, GTC Evans Cinemas in Evans has been a cornerstone of my teenage years and beyond. I moved to Evans at 13, just minutes away from this theater, and it became a pivotal part of my life during that transformative time. From navigating puberty to finally being old enough to see movies without parents, this place was the backdrop to so many fond memories.
In high school, it was a tradition for my Greenbrier classmates and me to grab dinner at the Applebee's next door before heading into the theater to catch a flick. Movies like Hostel, The Ringer, Ray, Michael Jackson's This Is It, and The Grudge were some of the classics that shaped my teenage years between 2002 and 2007. Even after going off to college, I made it a point to return to this theater when visiting home. More recently, I took my dad to see Top Gun: Maverick and even treated myself to a solo viewing of LongLegs.
Over the years, GTC Evans Cinemas has evolved. When I first started going, tickets were purchased from an actual person at the box office. Now, there are self-service kiosks, and online ticketing has become the norm--something that wasn't even a thing back in high school. The seats are another noticeable change. After a renovation, the theater now offers reclining seats, which are so comfortable you might find yourself dozing off if you're not careful. It's a far cry from the standard theater chairs of the early 2000s.
This theater holds a special place in my heart. It's more than just a place to watch movies--it's a time capsule of laughter, milestones, and cherished moments. Whether it's the nostalgia of those high school outings or the comfort of recent visits, GTC Evans Cinemas will always be a place I hold dear. read more
