Very poor communication! I went into this location of Ken's…read moreCar tunes on a Thursday with a buddy to see about getting an amp and sun installed. My buddy also wanted to get an amp wired for his car. We were given quotes we both felt decent about and asked when they could fit us in for installation. He said he could get one of us done on Friday if we dropped the car off. The next morning at 930am I did just that after again calling to confirm they could have it done. I waited around Mobile after work that day and finally went in at 5:50pm to pick up the vehicle. I was then asked if my ride left because my vehicle wouldn't be done that day. I was frustrated but obliged and got another ride and went home several hours after I could've been home had I know the work wouldn't be done. On Saturday I waited around until noon and finally decided to call and check on the status and I was nonchalantly told "oh yeah it's done." Great, so now I got another ride for the 35 minute drive again from my house to finally pick up the truck. I am very perturbed with the lack of communication. All it takes is transparency and communication. I had plans to bring my other vehicle to get a sub and amp installed as did my buddy but now we will go to another location or business all around. The system does sound great as expected from Kicker and an audio professional installing it.

As always, I include the caveat that you may not have the same problems and if not, bless you for your success in life. Or for your brother the 6'4" Alabama State Trooper. Notable reflections from My Year With UAF: 1. $1200 is chicken feed according to the employees. Anything less than $5K worth of Cochlear Destruction means they're doing you a favor and shut up about whatever the end result is. 2. Excuses given for why the audio quality is tinny and the bass sounds as though some yabbo is thumping on a cardboard oatmeal cylinder: a. It's a Jeep. Nobody can put speakers in a Jeep. (Clearly not UAF.) b. It's a Jeep Unlimited. It's too long for the sound to be good. (Lesson Learned: Don't go here for limo audio upgrades.) c. It's an old Jeep. Nobody makes decent speakers for old Jeeps. (You just waved a red cape at hordes of Jeep owners, Bud. So explain the $1K worth of Memphis M Class speakers that a Real Installer put in without any issues.) d. It's your ears. You listen to too much opera I guess. (Wrong again.) e. Somebody put expanding spray foam in your overhead soundbar. (A Real Mobile Audio Installer and I looked. This was A Lie.) f. Installed Yugo-worthy speakers (Orion) that can be found online at Amazon and Walmart for less than $30. Was advised that I was charged several hundred dollars more because of the UAF warranty and because they can't pay retail prices: wholesale costs more. (Oh, dear. Just because you're yelling this in my face without a mask and taking advantage of the two-foot difference in our heights doesn't mean that Carlo Collodi wouldn't have instantly recognized your primary trait.) 3. Continuing with the list of No Excuse for It behaviors: a. Failure to actually install new speakers in the dash and kick panel. He figured I'd never know. Wrong again. b. Installed new double DIN console and failed to reconnect power outlets. Twice. Despite being reminded several times over several months. c. Requested unit with CD player, direct front plug for Alexa-enabled Garmin GPS and rear camera display. Waited four months while being told 'the ship from China with the part was stuck somewhere off California because of the pandemic.' Then discovered that instead of the direct front plug, he put a homemade monstrosity made of black electrical tape through the back of the Tuffy security glove box which meant it couldn't be used unless the metal cover was open and knocking into the passenger's knees. 4. Yes, I spoke with the owner. Twice. I was advised they would do 'whatever it took to make it right.' Uh-huh. And that's one of those lines on the same level as 'The check's in the mail.' And I set all this out in a FB message to the owner. No response. I was also treated to a barrage of complaints about how fussy I am, blah blah blah. That's one more difference between us. I was honest about wanting something of decent quality, honest in paying up front and honest in being patient when requested to wait two months for UAF to move to a new location and four months while they worked through Christmas orders. The moral of the story is don't bother with these guys unless there's something they have that you can't get anywhere else. Which reminds me of a limerick about the girl from Nantucket.
