I wanted to love Grumpy Bean--cute name, cozy vibe--but in a city like Seattle where good coffee shops are everywhere, this one didn't quite measure up. I ordered the snickerdoodle latte and an almond croissant. The croissant was fine, not bad, but nothing memorable--especially when you're in a city known for its pastry game. As for the latte, I kept sipping, hoping the snickerdoodle flavor would show up, but it just never did. It tasted more like a plain, slightly watered-down latte than anything spiced or cookie-inspired. Definitely not what I was expecting. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but with so many standout options in Seattle, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. Just felt a little lackluster.

Went here at around 8 in the morning and it was pretty busy when we got there but emptied out pretty fast, there didn't seem to be many people staying and was more of a grab and go spot. The place is super cute and grumpy themed, with the sizes corresponding to how grumpy you are: grumpy (small), grumpier (med), grumpiest (large). The Nutella mocha was really good but the matcha latte was subpar, to be fair this is a coffee shop so probs as expected. The chocolate croissant was also just average. Overall I'd try it again.

First time in Seattle and my hotel is up the street, needed coffee so I gave it a go. I haven't left many reviews so might not be accurate to my experience. Regardless, loved their latte. -1 star because my girlfriend asked for a water cup to go as we were on our way to sight see and one of the workers said "if it's a germ thing, grab a straw" (they had hard plastic cups sitting out for water usage). Didn't know how to reply to that so we just left.

Great coffee shop in the coffee capital! I had a very tasty peach cobbler Chai which was smooth and perfectly crafted. Also tried one of their Poblano Empanadas. Wow! Loved the upbeat and fun vibe inside. Definitely recommended!

Tried the churro latte and the snickerdoodle latte. We liked them both! It seemed like a cute little spot to hang out and do work or meet. They had a large table for big groups and some smaller tables and seats along the window. The service was good, but when we arrived there was a note on the window that said "Back in an hour and 15 minutes" and the door was locked but there were still people drinking coffee and chatting inside. That was a bit strange. I think they are dog friendly but there's no signage to indicate either way. I liked the music and vibe and the drink selection!

Loved the vibe of this place and the help I received from the barista. I got the churro latte and cut the sweetness. The red velvet cookie and poblano empanada were really good. I wish I could have warmed the cookie.

Grumpy Bean is a great spot. They have some unique flavors inspired by Hawaiian and Latine culture reflecting the diversity of Seattle's community. I got the iced haupia latte which I never expected to find. The sprinkle cookie wasn't on the list of featured cookies but once I saw it I knew I had to have it, I'm a sucker for them. It was on the harder side for a cookie which I'm not as much of a fan of, but it was chewy inside. I really enjoyed the music here and had fun chatting with the staff about it. I would definitely come again.

Stumbled upon this place when visiting Seattle. Grumpy Bean is a relatively new establishment and features a diverse menu. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed the drinks a lot. The Salted Caramel Latte wasn't too sweet and was one of our favorites. The Honey Lavender Latte was also tasty, but personally I enjoyed the Snickerdoodle Latte more. Cute place with nice drinks!

This place is so great! I love the ambiance and the staff is friendly. Really good espresso as well. A perfect place to get work done, as they have lots of accessible outlets at each table/counter. I had a Lavender Latte and Spinach Feta Pita from Baked in Bosnia (another local bakery) with Garlic Cream. The pita was good, but I don't think I'd order it again. It was very dense for one person. Definitely come out to the Grumpy Bean to take a breather with a cup of coffee.

Nothing fancy about this small coffee shop, but it's a good grab and go place and it's only a few minutes walk from Residence inn Seattle convention. We ordered cappuccino and it was good! You can sit at the counter by the window and enjoy the city view!

This cafe has creative seasonal flavors. I got the churro latte and it was delicious. The latte was rich and perfect amount of warm cinnamon. Plenty of seats and a small assortment of pastries. I love the free box of condoms. Yes to offering safe sex supply for the community. Staff were wonderful too.

Found this place while looking through the different local coffee shops in Seattle! This place was just around the corner from my hotel. I found grumpy bean towards the end of my trip but I wish I would've found it sooner so I could've gone here everyday! They have a variety of really cool drinks! Consider me addicted to their pumpkin chai & their pumpkin dirty chai! This has to be the best chai in Seattle! The pastries are outstanding! That warm cinnamon roll is a delight & so is the chocolate croissant! The baristas are all really friendly! There's lots of seating so this is a great place to get some work done! Loved grumpy bean & I'll for sure be back when I come back to Seattle!

I am not sure if this happens during the busiest moments in the shop, but they did have staff bussing the tables, and one staff member actually brought us our order (I'd been listening for my name to be called and didn't hear it). They clearly care about their image as they offer a free mug for first-time customers with an email sign-up. The drinks here are ok, but they average between $8-$10 each. I think the pricing is just much too high. You're paying for the vibes, not for a great cup of coffee. The matcha we tried was mediocre. There are so many other great places for coffee in Seattle, for just a fraction of the price. I think Storyville is preying on tourists visiting the market. They probably have to charge that much to keep the 8 employees milling about behind the counter employed. The space does have lots of seating, but it was nearly full during our early afternoon visit. Save your money, find another great local coffee spot!

This was on a Sunday afternoon close to 5pm, and there were still so many people occupying nearly every seat inside. I did come back to try their matcha matcha drink only to find it gone from their current menu as of May 2026. Instead, their turon matcha immediately caught my eye, as it has banana and I've been obsessed with banana-flavored toppings and puree on my matcha lately. It has matcha and house banana puree, both of which work well together. The tiny layer of house banana puree has all the flavor, especially when you mix the whole drink together. Very refreshing, and their ceremonial matcha's grassy tones still came out despite the banana puree being just as strong in the drink. Their matcha here comes pretty close to making it to the highest spots on my list of my most favorite matcha places in Seattle. Even if it isn't on the top of that list, their drinks are still 5+ star quality.
