If you know where Bastard's Canteen is on Jefferson Ave., you'll find Discovery Records over yonder, just walk over the little green bridge to the right, lol. The shop shares a parking lot with neighboring establishments, so there's plenty for everyone. Although the place isn't huge, you're sure to find some good stuff. Owner SB is super cool, down to earth, and very friendly. The vinyl is separated into clearly labeled categories, so just find your genre and search away! The newest finds are on the right when you walk in, and the discounted ones are on the left. There's even a little bin that's marked 4 for $1! Like... WHAT?! If you're a collector, a DJ, or just starting out your collection like me, you should follow their Instagram account to keep up with sales, promos, and current events. One of their recent sales had me doing a double take because SB was selling 10 records for a buck!!! That is INSANE, but awesome at the same time, lol! I picked up some R&B singles while I was there. The nostalgia of my parents playing their favorite records back in the days brought back so many fond memories. If you're looking for something that's not in the shop, you can send a message to their IG account or call in to inquire. SB can help you track down what you want/need as he travels often to buy and sell vinyl. You can also bring in your old unwanted records, and they'll buy it if it's in demand. They get new records here as well as having a large selection of older/used records. There's also a clearance section that's fun to go through. The owner here is very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I also love that there are a few listening stations if you want to spin some of the used records here. Oh, and they also participate in Record Store Day and ask for requests if you want any of the releases published on the site. Also, note that they aren't kidding with the name. It literally is a single large record room. And I got a little confused when I first came here - I got to the spot Waze brought me to based on the address and the building looks like a large government building / library in the artsy area of Riverside. So I thought I misunderstood when I found this place on Google maps and thought it was an actual building that contained official records. That is until I saw the sign on the corner pointing towards the shop. I followed the sign until I saw another sign leading me down some stairs into the entrance of this record room/ shop. I was immediately wowed right when I walked in. Just a really cool store. Plenty of street parking nearby.

This shop is a bit more expensive than other antique stores on the same street. They have really…read moreold items, that are not in the best condition. But, then they have newer looking items that are in great condition. Unfortunately I didn't find anything that really stood out so I left empty handed. I did leave a bit abruptly because of a weird encounter I had in the store. Perhaps I'll be back to browse longer and find something that I like at a later date.

I've been here a few times, but this year was my first time attending their Free Comic Book Day…read moreevent. Granted, it was later in the day, but there was still a line out the door. Despite that, Ryan's Comics had a Very organized system for getting people their oh so desperately needed free comics. Their organization made what would've been an utter hassle (I hate lines), into something that resembled a fun experience. Fans were dressed up which lent to the fun atmosphere and the security guard they had on hand could've easily been a jerk, but instead was pretty nice while maintaining order in the line. I got my free comics, took a look at the line to purchase stuff, and left thinking to myself that I would return... and return I did. The shop is really neat and clean. They make good use of their floor space to make different merch accessible with out coming off as cluttered. When I came into the store, there were 3 guys at the counter playing some ccg. I needed to ask a question about a certain comic, so I approached the counter. I've done this in the past at other comic book shops, so I was fully expecting to deal with half-covered sighs and rolled eyes for daring to interrupt their game. Boy was I ever wrong! They stopped their game, gave me loads of information on the TPB I was looking to get, and even told me to check in on Yelp for a discount while remaining friendly the whole time. Now that's great service! Even though it's a little out of my way, I'm pretty sure I can find more than a few reasons to make my way over to Ryan's Comics.
