I'm usually at Emporium at night when Growing World is closed, but I can still spend a long time browsing in there just through the window. That's how awesome their stock is. It's so colourful and inviting that you can't help but gaze at it even when you can't go in. When you can go in, though, you'll regress a good twenty years and find yourself wondering whether people would find you creepy if you bought yourself a wooden doll's house or a ride-on bumble bee. The answer is yes. People probably would find you creepy, but it'd probably be worth it for the amount of fun you have. This is where young cousins or children of friends come in. They're handy because you get to go into toy stores lie Growing World, have heaps of fun, buy what you secretly want for yourself, and have an excuse to do so. Of course, then you have to give away your newly acquired toy, but there's no rule to say you can't play with it at home for a few days first, right?
As a kid I had a beautiful, chunky Brio train set and they still sell those at Growing World. So many of their toys are wooden and everything is of a nice, sturdy quality. No crappy, one-hit wonder plastic toys here. Sure, the prices are higher than you'll find at Mr. Toy's Toyworld, but so is the quality and education factor. It's also such a nice change to go into a toy shop that isn't overrun with toys that are all branded with characters from TV. When I have my own kids, I'll buy their toys from here and in the meantime I'll just be the creepy friend who plays with your kid's toy before giving it to them. read more
